Hold down Scroll Lock, and then hit Print Screen.
Pictures are located under Documents\My Games\FFXIV\screenshots

Oh thank you very much! I never would have figured that out on my own. Would you believe I even read through the manual and checked the key-bindings looking for a "screenshot" button?

To follow on this topic of screen shot, How do you do with a laptop that doesnot possess the 'Scroll lock' key (Or I haven't found where it can be :O)?

Basically scroll lock just hides all the windows. You can bind the "Hide all Windows" function to any key and and then press that + print screen.

Any work arounds if you don't have a Print Screen key?

I guess I can use other keys to Hide Windows and then use FRAPS.

What is the make and model of your laptop that does not a have a print screen key?

I would Google "(laptop name) Print Screen" and there will be a 100 other people asking the same question. In fact -

Here is one option: Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access > On Screen keyboard > Prt Screen.

But you would need windowed mode perhaps.

Are you using a Toshiba laptop?

Look for the PrtSc button? Use the Function key.

Don't forget Screenshots land in the User/My Games/FFXIV/screenshots folder. I took a bunch of screenshots and tried to paste them into Paint before I found the folder where they were all waiting for me.

Goodluck.

One star?

From what I've noticed each camp has 5 levels of mobs depending on the Leve.

For example: at Camp Drybone you have Chiglets, Marmots, Coblyns, Yarzon and Dodos. (I am missing midges?) Camp Drybone is Rank 10 so I am thinking that at 1 star:

Chiglets are 10
Marmots are 11
Coblyns are 12
Yarzon are 13
Dodos are 14

Then you go and add difficulty. So at 2 star:

Chiglets are 11
Marmots are 12
Coblyns are 13
Yarzon are 14
Dodos are 15

All the way up to 5 star Dodos that would be Rank 18 (14 + 4).

When I reach a new camp I have no idea what order the mobs belong in. At Skull valley the Dodos are somewhere on the third or fourth teir, and the Imps + Bloodwolf I think is the hardest one.

The cave mobs Chiglets, Bats and Bogy
Jellyfish
Dodos
Syphids
Imps + Wolfs

Something like that.

So my guess is you are fighting Rank 30 mobs on 1 star at Rank 27. Which is nearly equal and does not give the best SP. This is how I think it works, but clearly the mobs are not all balnced very well for difficulty vs. SP gains. At Horizon Footpads and Raiders give the same approximate SP as Ladybugs. Those dang Raiders are killing me at Rank 23 on a 1 star leve. I certainly understnad your frustration.

It's nearly impossible to determine what difficulty to set a leve on without trail and error. The ability to lower the difficulty helps, but I can't deny that some Leves simply do not reward SP that is balanced with the base difficulty.

Anyone else have some thoughts to share on this?

Very insightful posts thanks for that.
Yeah I feel the same about leves, trial and error then you get to know which ones yield the best and easiest SP. The same way some pages were more worth doing than some others in XI I guess.

So i've been grinding along with my 0% sword on GLA and it's making me wonder...

Noob question: Is there really any point in repairing your weapon constantly? Does it make that much of a difference?

I did hear that a while ago it affected how much SP you gained, but I believe that has been changed?

Damaged weapons have lower attack/potency.

I use the "Target nearest NPC" while fighting in large groups to get my enemy target. I believe the default is F8, I changed mine to 'E' because I use keyboard and WSAD to move. Think you will have to map it yourself if you use gamepad. If you do it this way you will have to face your character towards the mob you want and run in a way that positions the NPC you want to fight closest to you, but you get used to it. Not sure if this is the best way but it works for me!

And AOE is a toggle button, default key is 'Z' to toggle between AOE and single target spell. Problem is if you have it toggled for AOE on a heal, it will stay toggled for damage spells and all other spells for that matter, so you gotta be careful. Also AOE can only be used by Conjurer/Thaumaturge.

If you use a game pad to play, like I do, then makes a macro "/targetnpc". This will target the nearest NPC, unfortunately it does not cycle, so you kind of have to position yourself in front of the npc you want to target. If you use a keyboard, the default button is F8.

For some reason the button to toggle AE on and off on my gamepad is "X" on the xbox controller (Square on the ps3 controller), which I have bound to open the emote list. I'm not sure if the game recognizes my controller and set the X button as a toggle by itself or if me setting it as "emote list" is what made it function as the toggle. If you use the keyboard and mouse, you can actually click the button (with your mouse) that says "Area of Effect" when you're about to cast the spell, or you can press "Z" on the keyboard like the previous poster suggested.

Just clarifying, the button that you set for the Emote List is the same button that triggers AoE on/off when you're about to cast a spell.

Mine happens to be pushing in the right analog stick, which I've gotten used to.. but really isn't the best option Smiley: laugh

<stpc> isn't in game yet, there are only three commands used to designate targets at the moment <t>, <me>, and <st>.

The closest macro command to use if you wanted to target other party member would probably be:

    /targetpc ..(target closest pc)
         ↓
    /ac "Cure II" <t> ..(/ac (short for /action) "skill name" <target>

You could also try <st> as a command for subtarget, but I'm not sure how that work exactly.

Also party members from the 1st to the 4th and target[pc]/[npc] can be mapped to the keyboard which can help, :: (target self is [F1] by default, target nearby party members is [F6]).

I don't use macros for targeting myself so don't know if this will helps.

Link to Macro/texts commands list on Lodestone if interested..

Is there any sort of visual indicator when you're in range of a mob? I'm tired of seeing "Target is too far away." every time on my ARC/CON/THM.

Are you talking about umbral moraines and radiant moraines?

A fire moraine can break a fire crystal into 24 fire shards. A radiant fire moraine can break a fire crystal into 32 fire shards. So a radiant moraine is sort of a better/higher level than a regular moraine.

Umbral moraines are not associated with any particular element. They're all elements. You can use them to break elemental clusters into crystals of a different element. So, for example, if you use an umbral moraine and an earth cluster, you get 32 fire crystals. If you use an umbral moraine and a fire cluster, you get 32 lightning crystals. I think this post shows the possibilities.

At levels up to 24, you apparently get a bonus to the SP/XP awarded for each mob. That bonus drops as you increase in level up to 24, and then goes away after level 24. So you're going to be getting less SP/XP for mobs as you get higher in level.

Leves, behest, and grinding are the only ways that I know about to get SP/XP. In order to maximize your SP/XP gain, it's probably best to get into a party. You get a party bonus to SP/XP awarded, and you can go through mobs faster. The most efficient way to level after r24 is probably in a party.

But if you're looking for the best mob locations and types to grind at your level, you might want to check the Zam Campsite Wiki here. There are other posts talking about the best places to solo/party grind. You can do searches for those. But fair warning -- we just got an update that changed where mobs are located, and their respective hit points. (For example, coblyns/doblyns now apparently have a lot more hit points than they used to.) So the information in those posts may be out of date.

No - I was not referring to moraines. I am referring to elemental points contributing to divine or umberal power. I was/am under the impression that 3 of our elements contribute to divine power, and three to umberal. I read this somewhere long ago, but forget which elements. I am assuming its something like Fire/Wind/Ice = Divine and Lightning/Earth/Water = Umberal based on the strength/weakness cycles. I cannot remember if these elements are correct thoough - I was hoping an experienced magic user might know off hand. In other words, which elements should I boost to boost my divine attack/heal?

I got my elemental weaknesses here.

They seem to work the way he describes.

It means an NPC Linkpearl is trying to contact you for a storyline quest.

You'll find the NPC linkpearls in your main menu.

Also, you have way too many linebreaks in your sig D;

I've kinda got one.
I'm a rank 20 marauder and my adv. linkshell lit up like a light bulb for my 1st class quest and my fade to white quest.
Finished my class quest and now I'm ready to head to the Ul' dah market wards for next storyline, so I run to the ferry and the npcs both just say the barracuda knights finally re opened the ferry and wont exactly let me proceed. Is there supposed to be something I do beforehand before getting acess to the ferry or is there a different way I'm supposed to get to Ul'dah?

When you get to the dock you will note that there are 2 sides. The left one should have the closer gate white the right gate is a bit further. Go to the right side and when you are up against the gate you will notice a symbol on the top of the screen. Open your menu and you will get an option to enter the ferry docks.

When you get to the Ul'dah side you will need to run up a hill to get to the gates. Similar thing, go to the gate on the right and chose on your menu to exit the docks. To get to Uldah, follow the road. It will start out at the bottom of a cavern then lead you aboveground. DOn't forget to visit the aetherite camps on the way to attune yourself.

1. The leves reset per 36 hours. You can only do 8 leves within this period.

2. Nope and don't tell SE they'll ban the account for account-sharing.

I've always found that you will spend extra anima traveling from Gridania to LL ( and then presumibly Ul Dah). I have never run out of anima, and I usually do the loop from Gridania >> Ul Dah >> Ferry >> LL then teleport back to Gridania. Since I usually find myself at the Ul Dah camp near the ferry to finish my leves, hopping on the ferry is basically a free teleport to LL.

Doing this loop VS the reverse (substituting the ferry for a tele) seems to be the difference between maintaining ones anima VS slowly depleating anima.

A little background:
I quit FFXI about a year ago with the following post:
http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=1266635052108487319
Not sure if I mentioned there or not, but the reason I left was for a deployment to the Middle East with the US Army and knew this game would be out by the time I could get online again. Anyway, I eventually got internet running and got FFXIV overseas only to find several issues with the game I did not like. Well internet went out for remainder of my time deployed and that was a couple of months ago and I am now back home and have heard SE made a great many changes thus far (wow major run on sentence, did I mention I recently rediscovered alcohol?).
My N00b questions are as follows:
1. Did they add storyline to the game yet?
2. Have they intitiated a job system yet?
3. Have they added any new mobs or beastmen?
4. Have they added auto-attack?
5. Did they improve the interface delay?
Thank you for taking time to answer these questions in advance. I can reinstall the game and dig out my password now that I am home, but I don't want to be let down again by SE and give up my last hope for this game.

Auto attack issuppose to be comming in thenext patch I believe. And I would say there is more story. As long as you don't rush around and do all the quests in one day, you should bump into many more npc's in need of your assistance. Mobs have also been enlarged.

There is a market ward zone located in each town (western side of Gridania and Ul'dah). When you enter the zone you are prompted with an item search menu which will tell you which market ward the item is located in. Most servers seem to find that the Market wards in Ul'Daah are the most populated - I never really paid that much attention.

Inside the Market Wards you can find a NPC vendor in the center bit on some floors that sells r6-20 weapons and armour for most classes. Note that the prices are rather expensive and most items could be made for a lot cheaper, but sadly not many people sell lower ranked gear.

Here are the ones for Uldah (but the NPCs in each city should be int he same place selling the same stuff)

Uldah - Battlecraft Row - Reluctant Boar - http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/mob.html?ffxivmob=1500142#Sells

I am unaware of any way to lock the windows - but an indirect way to answer your noob question is that FFXIV (and FFXI) are more geared towards using a keyboard & controller than keyboard & mouse. Unless XIV has made improvements on the polished XI system (unlikely), I have never found the mouse to be an ideal method of play - I'm sure others might argue, but I'd bet most XI vetrans have a controller. No worry about dragging menus nescessary.

I haven't partied since retail.. lol.

I think I have my THM and Conjurer down pretty well, but what is actually expected of me in a mid 20s party? How different are things between leve parties and just grinding whatever? THM is odd, I could go from DD to tank to something like an RDM pretty easily but I don't have any idea what the community has figured is the way to go with it, don't know how effective or desired my enfeebles are on exp level mobs and so on.
