targeting can be a pain if you press F8 it will cycle through the npc targets. Thats what i have to do in 15 man parties.

EDIT: If their is a way to put the F8 key in the up direction pad when weapons are out can you tell us. Does anyone know if this can be done?

Is there any way to put the f8 key in a 360 controller?

Behest are a pain in the *** with a controller.

i have no idea but i don't think its an option when you set up your controller. I have a small keyboard that i use with my 360 controller. Its the old Logitec one for the PS2. it actually has all the PS2 controller buttons on it. I used it with FFXI on the PS2 system and it worked great. Its fits in my lap rally nice when i play. The keyboard part is a usb connection. that way i dont have to type on my laptop on the table. For me it works great.

It's terrible! I hate as much if not more than Rift's targeting system.

My workaround was binding target nearest npc to 'x'(Remember it targets the nearest npc in relation to which direction your character is facing. It's really bad. Don't even get me started on the subtarget thing that comes up when using spells or "spell-like" abilities. Had to make macros just to do what should be one button press.

I love the game and it's fun but I can't STAND the UI. I hope they give us a fleshed out PC version of this thing one day. :<

everyime i use tab to target the guy in front of me the targeting system chooses the most illogical target (furthest away) and then continues to cycle to other irrelevant targets and targets the person closest and in front of me last.. its ballbashingly annoying and another prove to me that squareenix indeed outsourced this project and lead to it being programmed by chinese students who worked for 2$/hour

it is not just you targeting in this game is the worst i have ever seen. It does not even target the closet target first. If there is someone RIGHT in front of you it will target the NPC/Mob 2-300 "yams" away!!!

Who in their right mind thought this was good? It has been 6-7 months since the ame dropped and i already have a job on rank 50 and this is still not fixed. I am a fan of the game i like it but this is one area i will NOT hold my anger to.

targeting in a 15 player party is masochistic.

Targeting is a huge pain. With a mouse + keyboard setup point and click is the best way to target. Of course I'm used to the mouseless control of FFXI so I hate point and click. Tab just doesn't seem consistent, and I can't figure out what the priorities are. Add that to the unlock delay after killing a mob, and quickly targeting your next attacker is nearly impossible.

Yoshida did say that the targeting system is a priority fix. Hopefully by March we'll see something better.

Set up a macro using /targetnpc

While it's definitely not perfect, it's far better than tabbing through targets.

Offensive ability should not target players at all?

Cures and buffs shoud not target Mobs ever?

This would take a number of possibilties out of the TAB list.

Buy one and let us know. I had one for iRacing but sold it to pay for a higher end flight setup but it did have programable functions. Not sure if the software would conflict with XIV though.

Or it should be like the old FF games where if you didn't pay attention you cast Cure on the mob, and when the mob used Confuse or some such on you you'd cast Fire II on your own Fighter.

I'd love it if the mobs had a good confuse spell that screwed up your targeting, and suddenly your lancer is stabbing you in the rear instead of the mob.

The sad irony is, I think targeting is harder since they put auto-targeting in 14. At least before it was in, you could be sure that you were not targeting something, and had to re-target. Now, you sometimes target the next mob, but ussually not, or worse you stay locked in on a mob you killed, and have to fully disengage/go passive to unlock and retarget the next mob...

Or is it just me...

aye targetting is woeful.

/targetnpc wont override a player target
why we dont have a perma friendly and enemy target I will never know (just get rid of sub target already its hopeless)
/targetenemy to target any red mob for your party would be really handy
various assist commands should be in... come on this is 2011 not the 1990's
/targetnmob to target nearest mob please, I really hate targetting the battlewarden when I wanted to target the mob hes standing on top of

As an archer, I usually stand at a distance from the mobs, and it's really **** annoying when the behest NPC decides to walk in between you and the mobs, and your F8 targets the NPC instead of the mobs, and you have to tab through 10 other people...and by the time you get your cursor to the mob it's already dead.

I too am playing with a 360 copntroller and hate the targeting system. It's so counter-intuitive. I must have lost 1000's of HP from mis-targeting the right mobs and getting my *** kicked.

In Behest, by the time I can target the next mob, it's already dead. :| I feel like a leech sometimes when I hardly have a chance to hit stuff, and things die fast enough already. I hope the next patch tweaks it.

It's a huge hassel.

I can't even get two hits off in behest sometimes, by the time I target the mob it's dead.

Oh well, 10k sp gained for jogging around for 5 minutes is koo with me I guess.

To the above poster about Behest and leeching. I think we all feel like this at times. **** theirs time when i don't even hit a dam thing. If their are a lot og Archers (I'm a PUG) they kill it before i can even target what were going to att. they really need to take the affect of SP decrease if you att a yellow mob in Behest and Guild leves off. In open world party set ups I think it should stay because Mages with AoE's would just destroy an entire area in minutes. 15 man THM and CON party would kill everything..lol

I just learned to click my targets ahead of time and if I'm too slow I'll run up and F8 real quick. While I'm not having trouble per say, it's definitely not intuitive. These are just some of those little things I never even thought about in other MMOs. I'm sure there are a few things that would really clean it up.

The targeting system needs a lot of work,
but if it helps it is possible to mouse click on the party list to help with targeting members, this will also change you target once a spell is selected.
