I have been trying to find a location for the npc's that do equipment repairs in game or even a guide to for repairing myself. Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Here is a link to the location of the repair NPCs. As for doing your own repairs, I'm no help.

A good way to get other people to do repairs for you is to put them in your bazaar to be repaired and maybe spend an hour or so AFK near the repair guy. It's cheaper, you will get a better repair, and you are helping your fellow player out. I offer 2,000 gil for my rank ~20 gear, and never have a problem getting my stuff fixed.

To expand on this, I'll typically leave my game running when I go to school or work and leave my character logged in while seeking repairs to his items. So far, everything has always been repaired by the time I get back.

I also typically offer 2k gil for equipment that is Rank 20 and below, and 5k for things that are higher.

If you want to learn to repair your own gear, do some research on what class your going to level and then choose the crafts that go along with it. I level Archer, so I have Carpenter, Weaver, and Leather. To repair your own gear you only need your craft to be within 10 Rank of the item for use or within 10 Ranks of items crafting Rank.
For items I need repaired that I can't repair, I have friends with the other crafts and if their not on or in the area, then I just stand by the Repair NPC and shout "R(rank level) (Craft needed) (Can you repair it?) (Item's Name) (Reward:)5k @ (Repair) NPC" and in about a min to 10 mins I'll have my Item repaired.

Also make sure to do your research on the item needed to repair your item. I've seen lots of players offer like 3k for repair and the repair mat needed costs like 7k.
So always take into account the cost of item needed and then add an extra amount as the reward.

Another thing you can do is collect the mats needed to fix it and put it into your bazaar for more then it is worth, then put your item needed to be repaired for the amount of the mat in your bazaar plus the reward your going to give.
Reason being is some mats crafters just don't carry on themselves.

What I do is after a leve run, before I log out for the night I put my equip up seeking repairs and stand by the NPC repair guy while I go afk taking a shower. By the time I'm done and ready for bed, all my equip are usually fixed.

Edit: Of course, your gil offer for the repairs must be reasonable. It does play a (small) part in how fast your equipment gets fixed.
