I'm R34 now and my R23 Brass Knuckles still do more damage then my R33 Spiked Knuckles on just about every leve mob from Nanawa Mines to Broken Water. On my status screen it does show that the spiked ones give more attack power and both weapons are not broken. Anyone got a clue what's going on?

I gave up trying to parse out stats in this game long ago. Sometimes equipment that's a dozen levels higher than me gives better stats than something that's at my same level; sometimes it seems that my base stats affect my damage, other times it seems that I can get high numbers without spending them intelligently at all.

Now, I buy whatever looks cool as long as it's within ~10-15 ranks of my current class. The game's pretty easy at the moment, so just do whatever you please. Frankly I'm not surprised that weapons leave you confused, they confused me until I finally accepted it. XD

They have different damage types, that could explain why the lower rank weapons do more damage against certain mobs. Takes some playing around with weapons to find what is best versus certain mob types.

Brass Knuckles
Blunt 100%
Spiked Knuckles
Blunt 80%
Piercing 20%

There's why. Piercing damage is generally effective against avian enemies, while blunt would be the weakness of coblyns.

If I use Flurry, which indicates it deals blunt damage, it only uses the 80% of the Spiked Knuckle weapon damage?

Not exactly sure how that ability would work with spiked knuckles, but I know that the fact you are using a hybrid weapon cannot be helping blunt attacks against enemies weak to blunt damage.

Yeah, but who fights those things, anyway?

Besides the point you're trying to make, the hybrids are doing less damage on just about anything I've touched so far >.<
