Has anyone now noticed (@ horizon behests espectially) loudmouth players yelling and cursing at everyone else about job ranks, and attacking claimed mobs more than before?
"YOU'RE TOO HIGH RANK!!!" "YOU'RE TOO LOW RANK!!!!" "YOU'RE GIMPING THE SP!!!"
"STOP being #^%%^ing retarded!!" I understand people talking and saying this once in a while, (I mean, we have to say it once in a while to keep the dumb people honest) but recently, people won't stop talking about this the entire duration of the behest. =\

I thought we had a relatively mature player base up until now. Did this fast SP bring out the juvenile children in people? Or is this not happening on everyone's server?

Reminds me of new players' first trips through Valkurm Dunes, and talking too much during parties, telling everyone else in the party how to play. (most of which knew how to play the game at this point) Shout macros and all.
/sh "Get over here!!"
/ja "Provoke" <t> etc

Don't get me wrong, I'll tastefully try to help people with information about how to play a little better. However, flaming people with curse words repeatedly doesn't do much aside from making you look like like an immature new player for the most part.

Have you guys seen this happening a little more since the last patch? Possibly they've been here all along but since we had no reason to party with people, we never saw them.
maybe just a handful of bad apples on my server, idk.
my advice, say your cursewords, flame them once, then be quiet.

You should get out of the Uldah area sometimes. Its gonna be the cess pool of areas since it is the most populated and often thought of as the best place for SP/EXP per hour.

Just reading that quickened my pulse and flushed my face with indignation.

... hmmm

What I've noticed is at least 1 person per 15 gathered for Behest don't know what the **** they're doing and although I don't let it bother me personally - I can understand how it frustrates others to the point of causing a scene.

I wish people just knew what they were doing before they signed up. Actually, if I'm making wishes I wish SE would just make Behest respond differently so the entire group wasn't punished for 1 or 2 idiots.

You know, I've noticed that too on Rabanastre. And Gridania's lacking with Limsa in the middle. I like Ul'dah for shopping but there's just too many players...it's not a bad thing. I just don't feel like turning on the /sh filter x.x

This right here is a source of frustration... not the 1 or 2 idiots so much as this attitude. Just how can you call people idiots when these people may not know the damage they're causing to the rest of the group? Are the rules on what's acceptable and what's not acceptable written down anywhwere? Is it in the manual? Does the npc tell it to you?

If I do something that messes someone else up I want to know about it so I don't do it again, but if some elitist jerk wants to just call me stupid for not following some unwritten rule or etiquette even though I had no prior knowledge of such act being bad then he can go ***** himself. Some players are new to events and some arent. If you can't deal with that then maybe you should limit your gaming to friends only.

If these guys were griefing then call a GM on them, and they deserve the flaming they get. I just have a beef with people to expect new players to have this crystal ball that tells them exactly what's accepted and what's not, and calling them idiots when they somehow don't know.

This is an MMO. There will be players of diffent levels of experience and skill. If playing alongside other people is so terrible maybe consider playing single player games.

Not directed at you Kirutaru, just saying in general.

Edit: To contribute to the thread, I believe the SP problems that plagued the game for so many months has formed the idea in the community that if you weren't getting the absolute maximum SP out of everything then you were a stupid noob that should gtfo. I had an experience with a player who did just that recently. I think an SP starved playerbase bred a generation of min/maxers who now expect all players to do the same. This mentality is a big turn off for new players and casual players alike.

unwritten rules are common throughout the world and the internet is no different.
im not sticking up for being rude or demanding to newby people at all, i like showing nubes around and explaining stuff, they usually worship me for it XD lol however i very strongly believe in the option to seperate ourselves from either casual or hardcore groups of players.
i think casual players need things to do separately from experienced/hardcore players from level 1 onward due to these exact conflicts, and i think the game needs to make it very clear to people when they start playing that these types of people play MMOs and its up to us to play with them or not.

i think once a solid endgame is implemented then the hardcore players will be able to seperate themselves a bit more when it comes to specific grouping and there will be a bit less of "get out cuz your doing it wrong" since theyre over there ---->

Although I haven't been playing a lot on Gysahl lately, every Horizon Behest I did after the SP Patch (and be it said, all the others in other areas) was nearly always controlled and efficient, and there were never any flames over it...although we do chat in LS and Vent about Rank 40s+ @ these, I've never seen any rage in /say.

Edit - Wow, I post my in-game experiences and get rated down? We really do have some people without manners...

If you're at an r10 or even r20 Behest, I agree there is a learning curve and people should be given some leeway/informed of the rules in a polite manner. However, if you're at an r30-40 behest, you better darn well know the things you are and aren't supposed to do. Behest is one of the main sources of SP in this game, and if you can't familiarize yourself with it enough to know the TWO real rules of Behest (only attack the red mobs, no AoE around other behest groups) then I have no pity for someone getting ******* out. I'm usually not the one to do it, but if someone is REPEATEDLY attacking non red named mobs, and repeatedly being told not too, it becomes unbelievably frustrating and I will get vocal.

I guess what I'm saying is it doesn't take a lot of effort to learn the rules of Behest. If you want to participate and not be ******* out, know what you're doing. Now, if someone goes off on you for 1 little mistake on the other hand, just tell em to **** off. Anyone can mess up once, and people who flip out over that are not needed in mmo's.

Well I won't say I approve of people being ***** about it ... but
It really is annoying to have a rank 35 join a 20 behest and cost everyone 100 SP a kill "just because".
I mean he's essentially stealing 3k worth of everyones SP just because he wants to go to THAT camp instead of another, where if he want to a 30 behest he'd get way more SP himself.

I mean in behest with all rank 20s you get like 320 a kill, a rank 35 joins and you'll get 220. It is a big deal. People killing white mobs only cost one or two kills at a time, and sure its annoying but its not 30 kills at 100 less.

Maybe they should move to the next camp and join other people at their rank. Perhaps that would quell the unrest?

Don't really have anything to contribute to the thread, but this macro just reminded me of a certain white mage in the dunes several years ago who had a macro:

I guess I should have clarified lower rank behests, but there's still plenty of douchbaggery going on at all ranks.

This reminds me of a concept we talked about in one of my programming classes: Murphy's law of programming if you will. If you have an input field that only accepts up to 20 letters, you better make sure the user can only enter 20 letters and nothing else because at some point some user is going to throw in a dollar sign or asterisk or try to put a paragraph in there. Behest is like this because just because someone can, they will.

While that explains higher rank behests, I feel it's safe to say problem players at lower level behests are most likely because the problem player hasn't started grouping yet since they can solo their way up to at least level 20. That's why it's frustrating to see people so adamant about flaming new players there.

I think there is a way to fix that People tend to attack different mobs. Anyone who has played or is still playing XI will know what I am talking about. Right now the only real way to tell which mob is the red one is to wait til its claimed. In XI (take Dynamis for example) you have a /assist. One person claims everyone else attack that one. Prob is that /assist doesn't exist yet as far as I know. Maybe the person that is claimer can say something in PT chat? I don't know if you can make a macro for that or not. A macro would make it a lot easier though lol. Either way those are my thoughts.

The Idea of separating the Hardcore from the casual I feel will only hurt. Can't learn if you have no one to learn from. And to be honest why shouldn't a casual player be able to enjoy what the hardcore players enjoy?

I do agree that there are elitists. I don't think we will ever be able to get away from that attitude though. Should we have to put up with it? No. But there are times where you have to make the choice. Do behest or don't. If you choose to do Behest it is something that we will have to accept and just ignore.

And quick question is it better, in behest, to kill the mobs of the group first before attacking another group? I ask because, say you have a group of rams and a group of ele's, you attack and engage the Rams first and kill one should you move onto the next ram or will killing a ele next make a difference? I have had that happen. Getting beat on by a ram that was part of the group you started on when someone else decided to kill the ele next isn't all that its cracked up to be lol.

:)
