Little Ladies' Day

This springtime festival is said to have its origins in the relatively recent Ul'dahn Legend of the Lost Lady. Over the past three centuries, it has transformed into a celebration where women of all ages, races, creeds, and repute dress up in their finest habiliments for a day on the town, stopping to pose in front of specially erected backdrops while nibbling upon colorful sweets; all the while, being waited on hand and foot by their loyal 'seneschals.'

And who are to serve as these seneschals, you ask? Why, the realm's gallant gents, of course! Yes, Eorzea's menfolk have sworn a solemn oath to show their appreciation for all damselkind by dedicating this delightful day to them.

(Now that is a pretty picture.)

Duration
The festivities are scheduled to last from the stroke of midnight on Thursday, February 17, until 6:59 a.m. on Thursday, March 3 (PST).

Ring My Bell

These bells need no introduction: they sang for the Starlight Celebration, hummed for Heavensturn, vibrated for Valentione's Day, and now their tintinnabulations shall resound throughout the realm once more for Little Ladies' Day. One need only ring the bells to receive a gift, compliments of the city-states and their benevolent rulers.

Gifts Available:

* Peach Branches
* Powdered Sugar

* Gifts can be received once every eight hours (earth time), starting the first time a bell is rung. Up to six items will be stored for each person in the event that periodical returns to the bell prove difficult.

Craftable Goods

Festive confetti made of peach blossoms, and tasty rice cakes are two items associated with the Little Ladies' Day celebration. The following is a guide on how to craft both:

--------------------------------------

The Legend of the Lost Lady

Three centuries past, the city-state of Ul'dah was ruled by an iron-fisted sultan by the name of Baldric Thorne—a man feared across the region for his quick temper and his even swifter justice. Perhaps as punishment for his compassionless ways, the Twelve saw fit to bless the sultan with but a single daughter, Edvya, whom the sultan loved more than the sun and the moon. And it was this love that drove Baldric to take measures that would ensure no harm ever befell the princess—including her confinement to the royal palace and the assignment of a retinue of over fifty handmaidens and seneschals.

As the princess grew older, however, a longing to explore the unknown land that lay beyond the palace walls tugged at her soul, until one day, in a devilish display of wit, she switched clothes with a miller girl come to the palace with her mother to deliver flour to the kitchens. Once Edvya had exchanged her beautiful gown and tiara for the soiled rags of a commoner, it proved little trouble to pass unnoticed through her legion of servants and slip out into the city for a day of wicked fun.

It did not take long for the palace to realize something was afoot, and upon discovering that his only daughter was missing, the sultan, overcome with rage, immediately ordered the sultanate's entire standing army to scour the city until they had found the princess. As for the royal impostor, thinking that Edvya may have been kidnapped by the girl's mother, the sultan ordered the miller's house torn apart, her family arrested, tortured, and thrown in the royal oubliette.

As luck would have it, the princess had not wandered far from the palace, and was discovered in a nearby market by her father's men. Once back in the safety of the palace, Edvya revealed the whole ruse to her father, explaining that she had conjured it on her own, and begged that he show mercy to the miller's family.

Upon realizing that the atrocities committed to the miller girl and her family were without warrant, he had the family released from the oubliette and summoned to the royal audience chamber. Here, not only did he personally apologize to the family and order the royal architects to design and build them a new home, but, in a move most unexpected, Baldric himself offered to serve as the daughter's seneschal for a full day, saying that no young woman, regardless of her standing, should be denied the respect due all citizens of the sultanate; that all girls, common or noble, are 'ladies' in their own right.

Rumors of this unforeseen display of humility were quick to spread through Ul'dah and ultimately proved to be extremely well-received amongst the smallfolk, who, until then, had perceived their leader as little more than a heartless despot. So well-received were they, in fact, that the sultan declared one day from each solar year on which he would select, via lots, a common girl from the city and serve as her personal seneschal, as he had done with the miller's daughter.

Sweets, sweets, and more sweets! Just how much Powdered Sugar is going to everyone's head o.O

I had to share this, someone on 2ch made a song about the FFXIV events. Google translate doesn't translate it properly, so maybe someone who knows Japanese can help out?

Since the game was having so many problems in the past I though it only just fair that for christmas, new year and valenti(o)ne the team just hatched a quick event with much to do in them.

Now, if they are going to the trouble to have random events then, personally, I think these bell ringing ones are way under what is to be expected.

If you gonna spend time in random events you need to do them right, actual interaction between NPC/mobs or you might as well not do anything and keep improving the game as it is.

Maybe not literal since it's a song, but more or less that's what it seems to be.

Thanks a lot! I rated you up. That song perfectly describes the events so far. Anyway I'm not too upset about it right now. I just take it as one of the things they will improve over time, just like everything else in the game. Thanks again Pacster.

One word sums it us for me - "meh"

I suppose they have more important stuff to work on so at least they're giving us something, granted that it's not the most exciting thing in mmo-events history, instead of, well... nothing o_o but I, personally, have no interest in ringing bells any more for yet more powdered sugar & food items or other usables.... (I can't help it, I only like clothes as reward >.< ). The cherry blossom decorations look nice though, hoping for some sweet new music theme in towns as well.

I guess it's SE's twist on the Prince and the Pauper tale (Mark Twain) only this time with girls :D

P.S. I dunno what you watched as a child o_o but I want some of that monkey-turning-into-elephant stuff whatever it is.

One positive aspect this brings is the possibilit of a "Little Man's Day!" uhmm... that doesn't sound quite right.
"Big Guys Festival!" too much fat. "Normal Sized Dude's Thing!" anyway something along those lines would be nice.

Unfortunately, yes. It is easier to make a small pic for an item then it is to code gear for all the races/genders. I assume we will see more event gear once they finish all the major overhauls. (The christmas gear was probably already made before the game was released, the hat thing too.)

I've been laying off SE on these events (since they have more important things to focus on), but one can only take the same bell so many times passed off as the entirety of it. This is pathetic - they shouldn't have even bothered with this.

Agreed, but at least one can make an educated guess and say this is not all that we're gonna see in the game on the 17th. While the event itself seems like nothing to get excited about, I bet we'll get some better news today or tomorrow.

What would you base this guess on?

Timing of previous patches/bell events and the part in the producer letter I stating that we were to be seeing a content update after the beginning of Feb.

Quote:
In line with the above results, we will be bringing quests and miniquests to Eorzea sometime after the beginning of February. Along with this, all of the changes being worked on during the end of last year and the beginning of this year to improve the games playability and user-friendliness will also be released around the same time.

http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=46e03f76722239ffa01960aba398e4034b898102

Since quests and miniquests were not included in the first patch in Feb, we can reasonably assume that there will be a second one, and we're running out of days in Feb.

There's a good chance all of the events were made for the year already and just activated at event time.

I am gonna just guess that they are running behind on some of the quest mechanics, and the (either, and most likely from the old) production team is pushing these events that were planned out, without having the necessary functionality to do anything more than offer bells. But, that's my slightly biased opinion.

I'm happy at the confetti. Hopefully firworks or something eventually. I don't even mind that the bells are reused. I do however have a concern with these events and it has nothing to do with dev time being potentially wasted.

I'm worried that so many events back to back waters down the "OMG new gearz" or "Yay event" feeling. There should be a gap between events other than Christmas and New Years (as obviously they are back to back IRL) or the signifigance of having said event becomes the norm and when the bells ARENT up will be the "OMG bells are gone, wtf SE" effect.

Either way we get a tad bit more lore to play with and a miniscule diversion for certain crafters should they so choose to partake.

I'm not ****** I'm just not estatic for this one.

How does one post an image on zam anyway?

Btw I promise I'll stop this nonsense for today. It's just a side-effect for checking the Lodestone every single morning while always hoping there will be news on quests. It's clearly driving me a bit insane.

I think they're just putting in "filler" events to let us know when and what the events will be each year. Hopefully at some point when events can be a priority again, they will spruce them up into something great.

For those who don't know much about Japanese holidays, I'll explain this day. In Japan, on St. Valentine's Day girls show the boys how much they care for them. One month later White Day arrives, and this is when the boys show the girls how much they care about them.

So, in Eorzea it looks like these two events are back-to-back, rather than one month apart. The Valentione Day story was about Countess Arabelle de Valentione of Ishgard and how she expressed her love for her man. Now this Little Ladies' Day story is about how men express their love for their girls.
