Class Change Improvements w/ Mock ImageFollow

I find that one of the more annoying things about the FFXIV class system is when switching between different classes. Even with full sets of macros it can take quite some time for the macro strings to play out.

Wouldn't it be easier if they created an entire menu option with saved preferences for each and every class? I created a rough concept in photoshop to illustrate See the mock image here. UPDATE: See RufuSwho's Post below for direct image.

Basically you would have each class you have started in a scrolling marquee. For each class you would be able to pre-set and save armor, abilities, traits, and macros. Anytime you got a new set of armor or new weapon simply go to the class change in the menu and save it to that class. Then when you want to switch classes you have a nice graphic UI to scroll through them.

Aside from functionality it would be an aesthetic improvement as well. Rather than your character disappearing and reappearing with new armor, an animation could play when you switch classes.

Does anyone else think this would be a solid improvement?

This is pretty much how it works in Rift. Rift saves your entire hotbar setup to each individual role (for simplicity's sake think of a role as a job in XIV), though it does not save gear. Gear setups can be saved with the /saveequip # command and loaded with the /loadequip # command, though, so if you need to, say, switch from tank to DD, you just change your role from the role menu and then load the equipment setup you want to use with that role. It's very fast and convenient.

God yes... Such a pain in the *** to switch between several different classes when you're doing something. Also a pain when switching from a higher level crafting job to a lower one. 9 times out of 10 I forget to reset my traits that got removed

Very nice. However, considering that after 5 months they are still unable to implement things like basic player search, I'm not holding my breath.

I really like OP's idea. Seems simple enough to implement too, mechanics are all there. Just need a good UI... ruh roh :(

But the fanboys insist that the current system is "just fine".

Get a life man. The current system is "just fine" - no one suggested it couldn't be made better.

When it comes to sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time, only being active for short windows, and marginal changes and sidegrades I'd say FFXI players were the perfect choice for politicians.

I've always wanted a way to make instant macros from currently equipped gear.

More or less...

Other MMOs you have diffrent "alts" that perform a certain function for your preferences. In XI and XIV your single character performs all of those roles. In those other games you usually pick from a wheel which one you;d like to play today. What you want is the same thing, but with the emphasis on "you is always you" thin FF brought in XI and hopefully maintins with XIV....?

If so am al over backing you. This is one area where easy mode doesn't apply.

Yeah I'm more likely to play as an Orc Fighter in game X because I could be a fighter with my Humanesque mage, but I'd prefer to be an Orc fighter AND an Orc mage.

I've been drinking and my reasoning skills arelimited ATM by my typing (not my brain because I'm that amazingm but I so wish that XIV would take on that current MMO trend of switching to different chars AND classes to experience everything to the semi0allowed XI_ version of doing anything with one thing. XI ALMOST did it, XIV could do it. In my most recent experience WAR will be the example (though FF doesn't have to steal from anythin as they have the Tactics Wheel). I pick class A, I later decide to be class B. Class A isn't affected at all other than gear wipe. Class B starts from scratch yet has option of class A skills.

Damnit I had more intense thoughts, but I'm gonna go to bed.
