Earlier today I was able to put the term "Undyed Cotton Cloth" in the translator by simply hitting undyed and then the tab kep, it pulled up a list of all the undyed cloths for me to choose from. Tonight I am trying the exact same thing and it will not pull up the item anymore. This isnt the first time its happen to me with random words, anyone have any idea what im doing wrong?

Put at least one Undyed Cotton Cloth in your inventory.

Start typing "Undy" and hit tab.

You're welcome.

Whenever I've had an item in my inventory (in both FFXI or FFXIV), I've been able to enter it into the auto-translator.

If that's not working try searching for it via the Item Search Counter and see if that helps.

You might also try seeing one in a bazaar. In theory, that should let you auto-translate it. Of course, having it in your inventory should work, too...

One of my LS members was having the same thing happen to him. At timed for me the auto-translator wont do Ul'dah. I think its a little glitch.

In FFXI it wasn't necessary to have one in your inventory, merely necessary that you "Select" the item by placing the cursor over it for any duration. In fact having it in your inventory didn't achieve anything, you had to run the cursor over it, be it in your inventory, on the AH or in a /check of someone. That being said, I'm assuming those who are having trouble ran their cursor over it. I have no definitive answer for FFXIV unfortunately.

I will say that FFXIVyg you can swap between languages, worst case scenario copy and paste the Japanese item name, include both languages of the item name in your shout.

Surely though, it should be in the dictionary. If you want to buy something you don't have, you're out of luck.

And....yes, I know.....don't call me Shirly.

Just mousing over the item used to work for me ( I think) and the item term would then be in the Dictionary. I used to use that when shouting for items I wanted to buy - I had to wait till I had seen the item on a vendor or on someones check window.

Place locations were also the same - Treespeak for example - sometimes is in the dictionary - sometimes is not

I know exactly what you are referring to though, sometimes entries are clearly in the dictionary and usable, other times they are not.
