The other day our LS was having a conversation of how big this game actually is and how much are we being locked out of, it turns out it might be a fair bit. Today I have sat down and tried to translate most of that stupid writing that they use on the map to try and come up with the names of these new zones and possible cities.

So to start with west of Ishgard seems to be a zone called Dravania and it has a city/fort called Sharlavan in it.

North of Gridania is a zone called Xelphatoi.

East of Gridania is a region called Gyn Abania and has a city/fort called Ala Mhigo. Further east is the Garlean Empire.

East of Ul'dah is a region called Paglth'an.

Finally north of Limsa is a region called O'Ghomoro which I assume will be the volcano part of the island.

Then when you look deeper into the regions we already have you see places other places to like in Mor Dhona there is Silvertear Falls, Coerthas has many other places like the Slate Mountains and Eagles Rise, Hall of the Seven Echoes and so on.

When you start breaking it down with just these zones the game will double in size and that's before you add the Garlean Empire which is bound to come at some point. The problem is what the **** are they going to fill it all with.

I could see them locking us out of the other zones purely for the reason of transport and the fact that these will probably be R50+ zones. Also as I have said before about them holding stuff back for the PS3 release, I think adding all those zones and being able to say look we have doubled the size of the game world will help them with their marketing along with everything else they fix and add as well to help push sales and generate interest in the game.

I am fairly excited about all this as I do believe that game has enormous potential but has been executed poorly from launch. I just hope they canfix what needs fixing and then lockdown what they are doing with the gameplay and mechanics so that start adding all this stuff they must have planned.

The only problem with making the world so big is having to walk everywhere. I'm sure they're planning on having chocobos ready by the time the world expands, but between the distance and the only content is camps and their levequests, I don't think we need a bigger world really, just more stuff in it.

The thing I liked about FFXI was each zone had its own uniqueness to it (except really East/West Altepa and both Jungle zones, but they were different from each other still). I haven't explored close to every area available, but it seems like outside each city is exactly the same except for minor differences in paths and terrain. If those small cities were open and had quests or at least NPCs to fill them, it wouldn't be nearly as bad. FFXI may have had smaller zones, but it always felt to me like I was going somewhere as I went through them, unlike in FFXIV where it just seems to go on and on (which is like real life I suppose).

So, to tl;dr:

I'm open for more/bigger areas as long as there is stuff to fill it with.

Cool that you took the time to translate it ... but ...
It's already done

Heres a high quality map with the labels and translations.
Those future zones will be nice, but you have to see zones in FFXIV as Regions in FFXI. They took away the zoning for regions. It's not really much smaller than FFXIs original content.

which is equally funny because SE themselves published the Eorzea font.

So you could have just typed ABCD(etc) in normal fonts and then in Eorzea font. ^^

No need to write anything.

new areas would be cool but at the moment, there is no reason to really go to any area outside of the cities surrounding area, and there is not even enough to do with what we have now.

I wouldn't say we're "locked out of" zones... there's no proof most of those are even in any significant stage of development. A couple zones can be examined in .dats, yes, but thinking that the game has "a fair bit" of stuff just waiting to be unlocked just because SE made a flavor-map when they still thought their "next generation MMO" was going to be a big success may be exaggerating.

Plus, expansions for games have never had any problem with either the "oh there's another continent over there" or "there's a new dimension now" plans, anyway. Thus using the map (or even in-game flavour text - like FFXI's "far, far East") for any concrete data is somewhat dubious.

NEW ZONES? this game doesn't need new zones. You can level 1-50 in Ul'dah region (Thanal, i misspelled it)really easily. To me theirs no reason for new zones when you can play the game in one region 1-50. **** you can level on mobs Rank 50+ on mobs East of Ul'dah, that is when they raise the rank cap. It seems like they need to make the zones a little different even though their part of the same region.

I think FFXI did an awesome job of doing this, Making the zones in the region different. I think it will give appeal to people and uniqueness in the different zones.

They could always rearrange the mobs.

Ishgard atm is a bitmap with a "spiral" staircase. It doesn't even actually exist so the only maps we're locked out of is areas within the current zones we can't access with the exception of ishgard as it has nothing there.

Well even if they did have other zones ready to go we are "locked out" of them purely by the fact that they won't turn the servers on that run any of those zones. Thats why Ishgard is not there, why would they have the servers running for the city when you aren't even supposed to access it yet. That doesn't mean that they don't have the entire city ready to go all it just means the servers that run it aren't online.
