#1 Feb 24 2011 at 10:58 AM Rating: Excellent
Hello everyone!
I am pleased to announce the completion of my newest guide on the ZAM wikibase.

State Alchemist's Guide to Carpentry

Hope everyone likes it. There is still some information that needs verified on the page, so if you happen to know the information that needs to be filled in please feel free to PM me so the response doesn't get lost in the thread.

Happy synthing!

P.S. Feel free to comment and leave feedback on your impression of the guide. I am always open to suggestions for how to improve it so that it will be helpful to anyone interested in starting carpentry.

Here is the guide to the Rank 36 quest:

1. Go to the back room of the Oak Atrium (Carpenter’s Guild). You will then be asked if you want to move out of the area. Answer “yes” and you will be taken to an instance.
2. Talk to Marcelloix. Accept the quest “Spanning the Spectrum.” You will then be taken out of the instance.
3. Go outside and head to the orchard. You will enter another instance.
4. Go though the dialog. That instance then fades and you are taken to another one. You also receive the recipe for a “fairweather fetish.”
5. Look around the instance for a “???”, examine it and receive a “large leaf.” Go to “requested items” > “quests” > “Spanning the Spectrum” and make the fetish.
6. Talk to the children. (When you talk to Powle you will give him the fetish you just made … didn’t seem like this had any effect on the storyline).Talk to Ryd and be taken to a third scene. NOTE: I don’t know if it makes any difference in what order you talk to the children. The aforementioned is what I did.
7. After going through the dialog you will leave the instance. At that point you will receive a “wood wailer petition.”
8. Talk to Nonolato at the Archer’s guild.
9. Go to Quarrymill to talk to Wybir. NOTE: Before talking to Wybir, switch to your adventuring class because you will have to defend him from some mobs, although the mobs are quite weak.
10. After defeating the mobs you will be teleported fairly close to Camp Bentbranch. Return to the Oak Atrium and talk to A’naidjaa.
11. Go to Mirror Lake. You will then enter a series of instances after which each one will give a journal update. Just follow what the journal says and you will eventually end up back in the Oak Atrium and given your reward.

Fantastic guide. My carpenter is sitting at 15ish and this is going to be immensely useful in raising that. Great job!

It's nice that you have the minimal rank for the masks synths in it, but you shouldn't start them until you're at 6/ ranks below the actual mask synth, so thats X3/X4 for each of the mask synths. If you would start them on 20/30/40 you will botch more than 50%.

I'm @ 42 carp and this is not true, if you keep up the books and crafting gear at 41 you need to purchase perfection and the break rate is 10%, 1 out of 10 on walnut mask

I've been doing Walnut Masks since 40, I have the gear for my Rank and have all books and 4 abilities equipped. At 40 I would say you fail about 50% if your using the saw, about 25% if your using the Hammer & chisel. At 43 I'm using the saw and have about 5% fail rate. Also most of my fails I had earlier were around the 90%+ on Progress, which still netted me 300+ SP at 40.

With the current SP system, and given the ease of aquiring logs/lumber, a 50% fail rate is still acceptable when you net 200+ sp from it. Besides the only thing you have lost is what? 1k gil that you would have gotten from NPCing the masks?
