Great Buffalo - Sonorous BlastFollow

Hey everyone.

I know this prolly doesn't need a thread on it's own, but this way I may get quicker and more concrete answers ;)

Generally, I just wanted to ask whats your experience with Sonorous Blast?
I know its a complete hate reset he is able to use once he hits 50%- HP, but how do you guys counteract it?

Once Buffalo gets near 50% I start to only use Phalanx and similiar low CD abilities to maintain hate, so I have all enmity abilities rdy when needed(Wardrum, Provoke, Taunt etc)

But most of the time, this just doesn't do the trick...unless hes not meeleing me right at that moment so I can use Phalanx again, which is easily the most enmity generating ability right now, I lose hate(after the few abilities I use) right to the first caster who either uses a Buff/Debuff or w/e most of the time. 10-15seconds after Sonorous Blast I usually get hate back to a degree where people can go all out again, but I'm looking for ways to grab hate instantly after Sonorous Blast, w/o having to rely on Pahalanx at that moment. I started experimenting with low stamina cost buffs that usually generate a huge amount of enmity(Profundity...)
It did seem to work a bit better to grab hate back with Profundity...but it's still not a 100% certain thing to keep Buffalo on me after SB hits...

So what's your guys tactic to counter Sonorous Blast?

PS: I still haven't bothered with MRD 30 for Warmonger...does it do the trick?

I don't tank it, but frequently I've seen people use Flashfreeze to knock him down? Not sure how practical that is.. but its pretty nice when that hits right after he blasts...

Hopefully a tank will give you some info because we rarely have an issue with this when we fight him~ Usually he dis-engages from the tank.. and then he's right back at the spot~

I'm just guessing but if a caster is using a buff/debuff right after reset, you may have a problem there.

I'd tend to agree with this guy. Is it too much to ask that someone other than the tank pays attention to the flow of battle?

As far as low cooldown buffs that can be used to generate enmity, Raging Strike is pretty nice. 30-40s CD, Requires no stamina and generates enmity. So for that one you don't even have to worry about having stamina, same for Ferocity, it's just a longer CD.

RS + Ferocity + Eagle Eye + WS will pretty much cement hate on you. Follow it up w/ a voke or war drum, then a phalanx as soon as possible. That's what I would do.

I only just got ARC up enough to get RS, but do we know if RS and ferocity stack? Both skills seem really good, I just question whether they stack or not.

Well what we do is, our LS has lots of marauders and pugs, and about 4 gladiators.
The hate reset seems to be single target from our experience, and the person who loses agro has a tough time getting it back for a certain amount of time.

If the hate reset occurs, a marauder, usually me, will use Warmonger, Provoke, Taunt, and Disorient which will secure agro to fix the mobs positioning while the gladiators abilities get off CD to grab agro back.

When we don't have a gladiator tanking, and we have a marauder (probably me again) tanking, the hate reset can be more brutal because of marauders limited abilities, however a pug can usually grab agro quickly to hold it.

The strat basically is, hate reset, have another tank grab agro, let original tank rebuild their agro. Works for us at least, you have to find what works for your LS. Some linkshells have 3 gladiators standing in front of it and all trying for full agro at same time. We only bring 1 glad and all DDs (well and 4-5 healers)

My experience, or at least what i've noticed is that, the buffalo seems to wipe hate on single target, then lock that person out of agro for a min (well time unknown) but it's virtually impossible to immediately get agro back after that attack. Where someone who wasn't even on the agro list can pull hate immediately after that attack (I've had an unlucky hit with the toads and a stomp, died, got raised, got unweak, saw hate reset, and was able to pull agro in 2 moves where the tank used everything they had and was ignored) the tank is unable to do anything.

They definitely stack and make for an amazing damage combo during battle regimens?
My personal macro is Raging Strike > Ferocity > Hawk Eye > Weaponskill

One skill that is often missed that serves a great purpose for this situation is Lancer's Collusion. Though it's mostly useless at this point in the game with the lack of difficult/long running content, this fight it is perfect for.

More specifically, I use it with my Archer. Trifurcate/Hawk's Eye/Raging Strike II/Ferocity II/Collusion = one **** of a large amount of emnity back on the tank. Trick of course is lining up for this since Buffalo is usually fought against a wall, but it can be done and works very well.

Well I do know that Sonorous Blast is not just a mere hate reset, its also a "debuff" which can be, at least with what I noticed, resisted. The Sonorous Blast debuff pretty much lowers the enmity you generate while having that debuff.

But its definetely not a single target thing, cause everyone all around him gets hit by that debuff. I can see it on my screen when he does, how the whole PT has the writing of Sonorous Blast at their character, showing they got hit by it.

So far I haven't bothered with LNC and ARC, cause I was keeping them unranked, til I'm done with ARM and BSM, and go for TAN50 next and then I wanted to use my LNC and ARC for farming sheep and rank at the same time. But if Ferocity and Raging Strike does the trick and cost no stamina at all, I'll definetely get them then, as long as its still free I can always make an alt for sheep farming, so no big deal^^

Thanks for the info so far. If anybody has some more in-depth information I'd appreciate any shared information.

Cool beans, thanks for the heads up. I just really wasn't sure if they stacked or not and I only just got my archer up to high enough to get the skill monday, and didn't try it out yet. But I just assumed that they wouldn't, glad to know they do :D.

Isn't it just a gravity debuff? not a hate "Sonorous Blast" debuff? I could be wrong...

Anybody else fought Buffalo since the 1.16 patch?
We only did him once, cause Mist weather was coming up in Mor Dhona almost every 30-40min, so we always ran to Dodore^^

But the one time we fought Buffalo...he didn't use Sonorous Blast even once...not even once...O.o

Anybody else had the same thing? Was Sonorous Blast ninja deleted, or was it just a strange occasion that he didn't use it(which I can't imagine, cause he always uses it...)

Faught him last night. He definitely used it, though with less frequency than before the patch.
