so about chocobosFollow

You know how the old dev team stated several times chocobos would appear but in a manner different from other final fantasy titles? What do you think they had planned?

It's hard to imagine what you might use a chocobo for, if NOT as a mount and/or transport. I mean, unless they intend them to pull plows or something.

If I remember correctly, in the main storyline (I think it was Calamity Cometh) the Lalafel twins are riding chocobos to go after Greinfarr. So, with this as evidence, we could assume, at one point, we'll be able to ride chocobos.

Id like to see us be able to race chocobos, or they may add a gambling den for betting on races. However that was in FF7, so who else knows what we can do with a chocobo that hasnt been seen in a game.

Not particularly. I don't think it would fit well within the game nor do I think it would function well if implemented.

It could be that they might introduce chocobos, but only to allow quick travel between cities and camps or cities to other cities. Maybe following a set path, and allowing you to get off at will. (Similar to auto-travel in LotRO?)

Personally, I would prefer free-roaming while riding the Chocobos, or if the Stabled chocobos are auto-travel, allowing us to quest/buy a chocobo, or raise our own, to allow free-roam travel would be nice.

Maybe we can do a quest to learn the chocobo language and we can talk to them like how Brutus from FFXI understood them. Maybe eventually they can expand the world and be able to take us to the Garland Empire. Or even if they can swim to far off distant land masses.

They can carry items and go to towns to fetch stuff. Or mediate other monsters into joining our side of the fight. Maybe a chocobo could be a beastmaster sort of job's pet to charm monsters. Or maybe jump us across some of the bigger canyons or mountains.

They could even be a mobile bazaar/retainer when we didn't need them, free to put them anywhere in the world.

They could have HP and take the first shot for us if we aggro a close by enemy, or they could fight for us while we try to escape an extremely hard enemy.

They can have different classes of choco's. Magical choco's with some spells or fighting chocos. Feeding them different food over time could change their class type or abilities.

So many possibilities to think of...

But the Ishgard Knight/Dragoon do use them as war-steed.

One of the NPCs I've run across (Believe it was in Gridonia) was talking about the DoH classes. They mentioned Mining, Fishing and Sheparding. I'm not exactly sure how they'd implement it but that's where my money is at.

I doubt they're keeping with those plans. This is from the same development team that said we'd never get an MP regeneration feature because we needed to learn to conserve our MP. I think you can toss that "chocobo being used for other purposes" prior statement right out the window.

A little off the topic, but i just noticed every single post in this thread, which I don't find anything wrong with has been voted down. I mean comeon seriously? Anyways I did my part to rebalance the rampant down voting, and i dislike having to rate up or down on anything I dont feel strongly for. Just seems like someone is trolling this forum hard lately.

This sounds a bit like it! Hmmm.
It feels too next gen, but I think it'd be cool if instead of being summoned out of the blue chocobos would have to actually walk the road from camp to where the player is through a set path. So people would see player chocobos running off through the world.

Thats probably impossible and would rape the server though.

I think there needs to be a few options for Chocobo's.

1. Let us catch or raise our own, and be able to customize it within the genre of Final Fantasy.

2. Give us free range like in every other mmo ever.

3. Like others have mentioned, would be real great if you could assign your Chocobo a job. Mount, Portable bazaar, pack mule for DoL, war steed, etc. etc.

4. The other, other, other white meat.

I can see (and hope) chocobos being used as in other FFs and find this to be the most likly option.

In adition you can have State Alch's idea of Chocobo caravans which will take you from one city to another and thus liberating airships to Company/LS/Personal use.

You can have racing/betting mini games.

You can have them as part of the "Scavenger DoL" with a hot and Cold world wide mini game.

Raising Chocobos would be nice as a prelude to most of the options before as well.

Maybe the Chocobos on Erozea are not so friendly and are hard to tame. Maybe they end up being part of the mob populace that we hunt. Imagine blood thirsty Chocobos roaming the open world hunting down lone travelers and eating their innards.

In FFXIV we use Chocobos not as mounts, but instead we use their caucus's and body parts as mats to make armor or as food

Chocobo meat is too gamy. Moogle meat is where the real delicious Final Fantasy flesh is at.

Chocobo taming would be awesome! Like on ff7. You'd fight the mobs around it, making sure it doesn't run away, and then you hop on it!

What I'm worried about is that nothing xiv does will stand up to nursing a chocobo back to health like on xi. That took real time 'n all.

I would like to see chocobo's added as a DoL job. Not sure of implementation, but could see us having to level it up to be able to free roam, then progress to set path transportation to 'unlocked' camps. I would hope it's not just going to be a system where you purchase/unlock a mount skill and then buy standard identical mounts. That is kind of played out in my opinion. Hoping they keep with the innovative theme on this one.

But, as intriguing as fighting from a chocobo sounds, it would be absolutely horrible in this system.

Ooo the idea of Chocobo's as a DoL ability sounds REALLY good imo

With the ability of setting abilities from other classes available, maybe at a certain rank (like 30+) we'd get a free roam chocobo call ability that could be used on any class to call our chocobo that's been 'raised' through our DoL class ^^ Maybe add in a few idea's from FF XI and other posters here. Like capturing choco's in the wild (would have to be on your DoL class to do it maybe?!) and add in some type of choco raising like in 11 (but different :P) So many names come to mind when thinking of what to call the Chocobo class :D

Would be awesome if they implemented it this way imo :)

You have quests to have chocobo parts and then you can craft you own chocobo like the manequin thing in ffxi or frankeinstein if you prefer O.Oa

My money is on the Shepard class. We will need a tool to call our chocobo, and it will be a DOL job. Can be leveled up by chocob digging, and gain abilities like water walking, rock climbing, and the such:)... Ok, now that is some seriously wishful thinking...

Well since chocobos have always been mounts in the FF series I definitely want to conSpoiler Testtinue to see them as mounts, but I also think it would be interesting to see them as a pet for some type of pet class, or be able to breed them as part of being a shephard, or even see them as a summon like in FFIV (assuming they introduce a summoning class, which they better!).
