Seriously, NO one has gone off the deep end about this? I'm proud of you, ZAM.

I'd also like to see quest NPCs gesture and even call out to you if they have a quest for you, but this will be a good start.

Thanks, I'm proud of you too. ;)

Really though, let's see it first. It could be implemented in a classy way. While I don't want a cartoony game, I doubt a little direction concerning where to go is going to hurt.

In fact, wasn't the lack of direction part of the stated player concerns just a couple months ago? Sometimes, you get what you ask for.

Well, the "!" above NPCs heads was something players didn't want to have. There are some other ideas in the feedback forum, how to show players that a NPC got a quest.

At least the Marks are not displayed constantly, turning the system into a hybrid of "NPC calling out" and the common exclamation mark.
Maybe they can change it in the future so the NPC sends you a tell instead of showing the exclamation mark when you come closer.

All in all the new system seems pretty good and I think most players will like it.

You know how annoying this would be? every time you run by this NPC he would send you a tell lol...I'd rather the marks.

I'll comment about it when there's something to comment on.

I'll say this though. Look at gameplay video of Rift and tell me that isn't WoW.
The tagline they use is "We're not in Azeroth anymore" Great that you cleared that one up as it sure looks like that though.

More NPC Linkpearl? Lol. Imagine 10 Linkpearls flashing in your UI.

Ah. I missed the part where the pic is already posted on Lodestone.

Screenshot

I would have to go with cartoony over classy on this.

:/

I'm still going to go hunt these guys down and click the **** outta them.

They better have cut scenes when I talk to them and not copy-pasted bull like the "theme park MMO" market loves to spew out. Every step they take closer to "theme park style" gameplay pushes their true supporters an entire mile away.

People wanted the "standard MMO quests" which excludes cutscenes, remember that a lot of people have gotten attacked for wanting FFXI style stuff in FFXIV..

You should go play they game than making assumptions. The UI is about the only major share from WOW/EQ the game is original in design and activities. UI =/= WOW

Personally I thought this was a great idea. Just a small "Hey can you come over here and help me with something" wouldn't be littering your entire chat log with /tells unless you were in an area with 10 NPC's all giving you quests. Also could have had a combination of /tells and /beckon or /wave emotes the NPC did to get your attention.

Doesn't matter though, personally i've pretty much gotten over the ! marking phobia after seeing what they look like, and I wouldn't have quit over it even if they were much more glaring (think gigantic and lime green/yellow :P). To be honest, they don't look too bad, and in a strange way do remind me of games like IX and XII with how they appear.

Well, to be honest, the makers of Rift knew they were making a game that was 90% the same as WOW. It was purposeful design to maximize the number of box sales and therefore (hopefully) maximize subscriptions. XIV appears to be moving towards the "guaranteed success method" as well, which is pushing away many of the longtime FF players while slowly drawing in the less hardcore crowd. Only time will tell if that was the better path to take.

Oh no, trust me, it's pushing away the less hardcore crowd as well.

I didn't go off the deep end because I've come to accept that most people enjoy $hitty additions to the game. ;p

I've said a dozen times that so long as the game LOOKS different from WoW (not the same UI layout) then I don't give a **** how many WoW-esque features they add so long as they improve the game.

No, I haven't gone off the deep end about something so minuscule. Why would I care if the info is there in the game when the same info is right on ZAM?

Come on, I thought there were more game-breaking issues at hand...

At least the chatbox would finally have a use.

Edit: Also, I want an option to have quest givers show up on my map at all times so I don't have to hunt them down or be "lucky" enough to get close to one so the icon shows.

That's actually a good idea. They're also exclamation marks, not question marks. Still nowhere near as good looking as a chocobo icon.
