I'm currently at GDC and got the chance to interview Yoshi-P and Sage Sundi. We discussed various topics, such as the upcoming official forums, the team's plans for new quests, when you can expect to see some battle system changes (as well as a new high-end dungeon), and how you'll earn class-specific armor. Yoshi-P also explains how he hopes to bring both old and new players back into the game.

Here's the link to the full interview: http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=25503

Good questions asked zam, thumbs up for that! Its nice to see that they are planning on rolling out quests with almost every patch, if they can add some more depth to at least some of them it would be even better :D. He mentions they are excited about the company system so I wonder what it will be like? Guess i'll have to wait for the end of march for that. Good interview, looking forward to the upcoming changes.

we are having patches every two weeks or month

Seems a sneaky way of saying that they were a bit too optimistic with their patches every 2 weeks :D

The thing is, we realized that we could bring out player Companies, but then if there's nothing for the Companies to do there wouldn't be any reason to bring it out. We decided to reverse that and first make sure that there's going to be content and stuff for the Companies to do before releasing the Companies.

I soooo laughed about that one! It would indeed have been a very bad idea to release compagnies and... Nothing to do with them. I'm still smiling just trying to think about all the '????' over people's head when they would have advertise them and then, nothing more than there here but that's all! "We said we would bring compagnies! We did not say that there would be something to do with them! What were you thinking?".

Congratulations for getting the interview ^^b

It seems to me we are going to need to wait until late summer to have the game ready for re-launch?.

That was the first thing I thought when I saw that pic, far from the clean cut hipster on the FFXIV main page, poor guy.

As for the interview, its great to hear so much is being planned for spring time, I can't wait to hear more about companies and battle changes. The big take away for me though, is that Yoshi-P seems to get that the lore of the game is just as important and the gameplay and content. He seems to want to roll out new content with relation to the lore of the world. As we saw with the quests that were implemented, they really are more about the rich history of the world and less about "kill this for a piece of gear" even if that is what the quest involves.

Here's hoping that by the 1 year anniversary they have everything ironed out and will just be working on content/lore updates, not fixing basic control and battle mechanics.

Togikagi, great job getting this interview, translating and sharing with everyone!

High-end dungeons, Companies and a reference to an impending danger to Eorzea. From this interview, I get feeling they are cooking things on all burners right now and I can't wait to sit down for the meal!

Thank you. :)

Will these Companies require a resume and interview? Why do I feel like I'm going to get ********** these corporate ladders!
When they initially talked about companies I thought it was going to be a small scale LS type group that could share gear. Yoshi-P is saying its going to be larger scale than a LS. I'm so confused what is a Company, and how will it work? How do they work in other games?

I love that Yoshi usually ANSWERS the questions rather than sidestepping and repeating the same things we've heard in five other communications. Obviously, he can't say too much or commit to specific dates, but he does his best to give clarity with his answers and it's hugely appreciated. Some really good info here. Yoshi seems to GET it. I truly hope that patience pays off and this game slowly molds itself into something that will provide lasting fun.

I think they should stop telling people about companies until they are willing to release any actual information about them. Its like telling us there's this huge interesting game feature coming out, that we don't get to know about.

I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed in the Company news. As a LS leader, I was really hoping for a more advanced form of the current Linkshells. Something that would have provided goals to work towards (leveling the Company, building a Company hall/ship, etc.) More than that though, I was really hoping that they would include better management tools to go along with the Companies. I hope those will come for normal Linkshells now, and I'm still looking forward to seeing what Companies are all about, but I'm just a little let down that they won't be what so many of us had imagined.

Everything else looks great from the interview, and I agree with others who say that Yoshi-P "gets it".

I think it is more about a marketing technique, really. It gives a current player hope for the future of the game and quit players a possible reason to come back.

But, it's good to know he's putting in that level of hard work and dedication to XIV. Selfish though I may sound. As an XIV player, I am really glad the guy truly cares about the game.

I'm really glad he seems to get it about quests being a way for us to discover the people of Eorzea. I mean really, how many of you actually read the levequest text (or even know it's there?) they provide? I know I just accept my leves and then go do them, whereas in XI, I'd read all of the dialogue any quest NPC said to me.

As much as I may get rated down for this, looks like Yoshida needs a day off. He looks completely exhausted.

I do the same, the levequests are no more entertaining than daily quests in any other mmo. I'm happy with the sidequests as far as story/lore ( I don't need cutscenes like some people, but then I was gaming when mmos were still MUDS ). What I do not like about the new sidequests is the lack of any sp/exp, even from the mobs you kill.

Tried posting this earlier, but was having internet issues.

It would be nice to hear more detailed information about companies and their role in the game than what they giving us. But, what do you really expect? This isn't different than the many other game companies that do the same thing. I do like the little info that they have given about it in this interview. Has me rather intrigued, thinking of the possible ways that companies are going to be introduced.

I really like knowing that people from all nationalities are going to get information. That it isn't just going to be catered to the Japanese. Though, I'm sure that the Japanese are going to get more responses from them than everyone else. But, that is to be expected imho. The lack of communication in the pass was really sad. They are really trying to make sure they communicate to the playerbase as a whole. I really like that I get a feeling of the people that are actually making the game. It helps me get an understanding of where this game is heading, even though they haven't explained everything in detail.

You do have a point Carmillia. But, I kind of had a feeling that we may not get an update every two weeks. It is funny how he worded it, trying to be sneaky and all. But, that's just how some people say things. Either way, I'm sure they're going to strive to make it every two weeks if they can. Yoshi-san definitely looks worn out. Think not getting much sleep and the long stressful hours of work are catching up to him. Not to mention, all the flying he has been doing. I can imagine that makes a big difference, with how he feels about being in an airplane and all lol.

I think they are all doing a rather good job and feel they are doing just what they have been saying. I can patiently wait for this game to get where it needs to be. Only reason that I'll leave this game is if things change and they don't keep doing as they have been saying. Though, I know what they are doing isn't enough for some people playing the game. Feel those people have every right to feel that way, so no hard feelings there ^__^

Keep up the hard work Yoshi-P and team! Just try to make sure you get enough rest. Don't want ya'll burning out and then have this game bottom out because of it lol.

The people who didn't read levequest text aren't going to read this kind of quest text. They're either going to have to make it something flashy like a cutscene, or they're going to need to make reading them necessary to complete the quest (ie no mini map or whatever). I mean I don't really care if people do or don't read stuff, I read my levequests until I realized they were never going to get interesting.

We all know PS3 version is indefinitely delayed until they solve all usability issues on PC version.
That's the announcement made by Youichi Wada, CEO of Square-Enix; and Yoshi-P already said all that he can commit at this time is "There will be PS3 version, no cancellation".

---
Well, as one of Japanese players, we all think Wada is the one to be blamed for too-early launch and all the mess of FFXIV. He was a securities trader before enter Enix and all his thinking are around quarter reports....
As a proof, this is a Japanese report of CESA meeting held at 2006. On the meeting he said "One of the profit point of MMO is USER WILL DEBUG FOR US". What a suck... http://goo.gl/krkF

I know there will be no second Steve Jobs for SQEX but at least I don't want to see some i*iot to drag the Final Fantasy back....
