Hopefully the people that don't understand that this game is a work in progress until they decide to charge for it. Leave the ******** on ZAM and put the more constructive posts on the official forums.

I imagine within the first 2 weeks, the "official" forums will be nothing but fanbois and brown nosers, most of which will be spending most of their time trying to turn this into FFXI-2.

I don't see a problem with that. Bring on FFXI-2!

Or how about you just go play FFXI and maybe they can make FFXIV a successful game?

Because if they're going to waste all this development time and money just to make another FFXI, they might as well just scrap the game now and just upgrade FFXI's graphics.

Then it will be a typical game specific forum in no time. Smiley: grin

So FFXI wasn't successful? o.O

Yeah, 200k players in a new mmo in 2011 will be considered REALLY successful.

Those who wanted to play FFXI already have and have gone. Those who want to play FFXI already are, the whole 200k of 'em.

You're not going to get 500k-1 million players to play a regurgitated mmo that was a niche to begin with.

But hey, maybe S-E doesn't really like money and don't care if it takes 20 years to make their expenses back.

You're free not to believe me since I sadly lack the numerics or citations to back this claim up (and frankly, I can't be hassled to go web browsing when I'm nursing bronchitis and thus don't give enough of a crap to prove anything to someone on the USS Internets), but I am under the impression that as recent as the middle of last year, prior to the news of FFXIV coming out later in 2010 became public, FFXI met your prerequisite number of subscribers to be considered "successful", puttering on at about a 500k player base.

So, yeah ... no. FFXI was not as niche as you may assume, especially when you consider that if it was at 500k as recent as mid-year last year, it was surely more than that prior to the game growing older and older.

I know I'll be spending hours a day on that forum posting my suggestions.

And learning Japanese.
#12TerraSonicX, Posted: Mar 06 2011 at 11:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Zorvan, there's no use in arguing with some of these people. They want FFXIV to be like XI no matter what. I don't understand why they just don't go back to XI and play that. XI will have official forums too, so post all your XI improvements on there.

I never actually seen people wanting XIV to be like XI specifically, most that I see wanting a "FFXI-2" are more going on the fact SE completely stepped away from what they did with XI, FMO and even FE in regards to XIV. They should have built off of it because like it or not, FFXI wasn't exactly a bad MMO and XIV could have benefited from not stepping away from what it accomplished. The reason we need to wait for content to begin with is because they decided to throw out everything they did and learned MMO wise the past decade and now has to fix the game.

I guess you're right, I'm just getting annoyed that for a few weeks these boards didn't have much whining on them, then after patch 1.16 comes out all these trolls and new accounts come out of nowhere bashing how SE isn't doing anything or these quests suck. Don't get me wrong, I wanted more out of the quests too, **** I wanted rewards that modern MMOs give but most people on here are against that. But I understand from reading Yoshi's letters and interviews that they want to fix the battle system first, to them there's no reason of building a house on a poor foundation. I just wish people could be patient and see the big picture before they *****.

I don't claim to speak for everyone who played FFXI and now play FFXIV, but the FFXI I loved to play died when the level cap was raised past 75. To me there is no FFXI to go back to.

That was one of the biggest complaints in the game I saw at release. I always felt like they didn't want it to be considered "FFXI-2", and possibly the reason they decided not to take things that were learned from FFXI and apply them to FFXIV.

Personally I think everything in this game was done around the idea of "How do we stop RMT?". They succeeded in slowing down RMT but at the expense of UI usability and fun.

Your not alone in noticing that.
I find it more funny that the whining is unjustified, and the answer to everything was in quite a fe reads beforehand explaining what would be happening with the quests.

1) people think we didnt get enough
Truth: We were told we wouldnt be getting alot per update, just as many as they could pump out at an given time, but we would get them more regularly.
2) people think this is the only type of quest we will get
Trush: This time its what we got, story quests, class quests, and alot more are in the works.
3) Item rewards suck apperently
Truth: would you rather have no reward?

people just want a reason to complain

i cant wait for the official forums to come out, not because of fanboyism or anything else, but I just want to see a bit more moderation in them. The trolls and flames in some of these forums is getting out of hand. Its really hard to have a decent conversation or discussion anymore.

Ding ding! We have a winner! Only took 6 months for someone to catch that. Thought it was funny putting east instead of west. Wouldn't that be great though if I was playing FFXIV from a SAT phone in the middle of nowhere?

SE is known to change things. I mean look at the difference between FFV, FFVII, and FFVIII. If it weren't for the familiar mobs, game terms, and title, we wouldn't know that those games were created by the same company.

Don't use WoW player base as parameter, 200k it's a lot of people. When SE start to charge 12$ per month, that means 2.4M per month and that's a lot of money. People need to stop using WoW as reference for population, WoW, good or bad (I really think that compare WoW to FFs it's like compare soccer with baseball), it's an exception.
