Optimal Rank on SkillsFollow

Does Optimal Ranks in Skills work the same way as Optimal Ranks on Equipments? I mean as in they give penalty if you equipped it and not within the Optimal Rank?

For example if you use higher rank skills than your current rank:

- Protect/Shell will give less P.Def/M.Def
- Magic easily get resisted
- Buffs skills give less bonus (Ferocity, RS, Defender, Featherfoot, etc)

Or no penalty at all?

I just want to make sure if I play lower class, I won't be using other jobs Tire 2 skills, if they do give penalties.

Optimal Rank does have some effect on abilities, but I think it depends on the ability too. If I use Concussive Blow II with a R5 job for example, I will miss more frequently than I would with Concussive Blow. I think Fleet of Foot speed is reduced below optimal rank (not really sure though.) I assume 100% hit moves like Seismic Shock must be damage reduced below optimal rank, or perhaps have stat caps imposed (earth).

Using a melee ability way above skill is not very effective because of misses. Other skills are always useful - like Second Wind.

The reason you miss a lot on weaponskills that are much higher rank than you are is not only because of the rank difference, but because of afinity.

If you use a weaponskill cross class the accuracy and damage are reduced.

I can tell you that my flurry is much, much more effective now that I've hit 40 on pugilist.
