1) When will it finally come to PS3?

I know they said they wanna wait until the game is "better" before they release it on PS3. But Ive seen plenty of reviews for the game after its first major patch (not talking about the most recent one). Where all the headlines pretty much say "Now THIS is how the game should have been when it first came out".

To me that means while the game isnt perfect its at least far beyond what it was when it came out in september, so id say its at least acceptable enough for a console release in its current form.... if we wont get it on ps3 until its "perfect" then we might be waiting til 2012-13 or never even see it at all and if this game is anywhere near as great as FFXI is/was (storywise) I dont wanna wait that long.

2) speaking of story how is the story in this game? The main draw of FFXI for me was that it was the first (and imho still ONLY) mmo with a storyline. It felt like playing an offline FF game (especially with CoP) but with real people being in your party instead of being controlled by AI/you. and seeing the trailer for FFXIV back when this game was announced plus the fact that the CSs this time around are actually voiced tells me this game is surely not gonna disappoint in that department. Unlike most MMORPGs where the only mention of a story is on a paragraph in the instruction manual then you never hear anything else about it in actual gameplay, as you kinda have to role play/make up the story as you go kinda thing, or find it through lore, or reading notes found ingame as opposed to being thrust right in the middle of it like FFXI (i was so hyped to take on the shadowlord for the first time back in FFXI, the fight even felt epic... too bad its anything BUT epic once you hit 75 lol, those cop fights were all definitely epic though.. mainly thanks to the level caps)

So hows this game holding up storywise?

3) I think I remember reading something awhile back that they were considering going back to a traditional job/class system instead of what theyre currently using.... did I really read that or am I imagining things?

4) Any likelyhood that we'll get a more traditional pvp options this time around (like a battle arena, or CONSENSUAL challenge anywhere on the field (except in towns) option? (i.e im walking in a forest and I happen across another player and I want to fight him.. I have to first request a challenge and he has to actually accept it, otherwise he cant touch me and i cant touch him, i see nothing wrong with that as its great for ppl who are against pvp... if you dont wanna get beat up or dont like pvp dont accept the challenge.. simple as that). Or make a few rare dangerous areas were theres open PVP (meaning anyone on the field is fair game) just dont make something stupid like corpse looting, and if so make it items you could EASILY get back... not something like an item it took you months to obtain only for someone to take it from you in a day). So yeah any likelyhood of real pvp and not anything remotely similar to that crapfest called Ballista?

5)In a news article on this site I just read it kept mentioning the "current claiming system" umm they changed the system from what it was in FFXI? i.e its not like ffxi where once you claim something only YOU can attack it and no one else? (unless youre in a party when you attack it then your party members can attack too? please 6tell me its still like that and not like in most rpgs where anyone can attack when youre already attacking thus opening the door for kill stealing and loot stealing... surely SE couldnt have been that stupid after doin such a fine job with the claiming system in the previous game in that regard?

lol.

To answer your questions.

1. Nobody knows when the ps3 version will be released. It was supposed to come out in March, but they are going to hold off on it probably hoping it will bring in a renewed player base with its launch.

2. I have gone through Gridania's story and Uldah's story. They both were interesting and I almost cared to grind some more levels to see the next portion of them.

3. They are planning on possibly redoing the class system a bit. Changing names and making the classes more unique. Giving classes a more specific role in combat. Still a lot of speculation about what exactly they are planning.

4. Traditional...isn't a word SE uses. They mentioned possible PVP but I doubt highly that anything about it will be traditional.

5. The claim system is currently the same as was in XI. Unfortunately there is nothing you want to stake a claim on. They asked for the player's opinion on future changes to this.

Everything is changing basically...and no one really knows what is going to happen exactly in the future.

I had read those before and I find the RPGFan reviews to be fairly balanced.

In closing, I have to say these latest version updates have finally brought Final Fantasy XIV where it needed to be at launch. It's taken several months to address what seemed like basic issues, but I feel that the game is finally there. Of course this doesn't mean there isn't more work to do. Player content is better but more variety is desperately needed. The game still remains console controller-centric, though the development team is working on a secondary UI that is specifically for the mouse and keyboard.

By where it need to be at launch, I think he is mostly talking about UI, lag, overly complex menus to access anything, crashing, and such. There is certainly still some area for improvement in these areas, but you can play the game that exists now...while before there were many things hindering basic play. And he's completely right that while NMs, sidequests, and a few new recipes have added a little more to do since launch there is also a desperate need for more variety.

Console release is SE's opportunity to relaunch the game with a lot of fanfare. I'd say Fall at the earliest, possibly later - maybe even waiting on the first "expanison pack" similar to the NA launch of XI.

It's good, but there's not enough of it.

Reading the latest from the Lodestone - Yoshi discusses two potential approaches under consideration - 1) reach a rank and unlock a new class, or 2) specialize inside of a class. With the goal being to recapture some historical FF feel to the classes as well as increase class specialization/purpose/uniqueness.

There are a lot of battle mechanics improvements that probably need to be sorted out, as well as class balancing, before you could even think about traditional PvP.

5)... it kept mentioning the "current claiming system"

Some of the polls/letters have mentioned the possibility that the current claiming system may change. Right now if you AOE kill an adjacent mob, you get no experience for it.

When they feel it's ready enough to garner a positive reception. My guess is summer or fall, but they haven't announced anything, all we know that it is coming out eventually.

The vanilla main storyline of FFXIV is better than that of FFXI's initial rank missions, but as others have stated, it's just not enough. (Aka, you get one main storyline quest about roughly every five levels, as compared to three missions every rank in FFXI) It's also way too easy. You can get through most of the story by yourself. The cutscenes are great, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't have that "I'm saving the world with my friends" kind of feeling you got in XI.

This is a link to the first 'boss' of the Limsa Lominsa storyline if you want to see it.

They're either going to be advanced classes or specializations on what we have. They don't seem to be wanting to "go back" but make them more as goals to strive for.

Doubt it. PvP has scored very low on many players' priority list thus far. Also, PvP wasn't really big in any Final Fantasy title anyway.

Nah, in fact, you claim groups of enemies at a time now. They are considering changing it, though.
