Wow. A beautiful, clean baby blue BG surrounding Zam right now. No disgusting, cluttered, eyes sore that is usually insulting us.

I like it.

ps: it loads and performs so much faster as well. Good job Zam team!

ZAM is supported primarily by advertisements. Please whitelist us so we can continue to build new features. :)

It's a way to make money.

Heck if I own my own website, I'd ADVERTISE it to advertisers. It's not like it's super annoying...

Ya ya ya. I'm talking about the giant huge add normally filling the background to the site. ( the last week or more has been the giant gross Rift add) It's intrusive and ugly and even on moster PC's hinders performance while scrolling etc. Right now there are still the smaller top and side bar which is alright. Glad to see the cleaner, nicer look.

Heh, I kinda miss the background!
But yes, ZAM, like any other website (or at least fansite) is supported by ads. By whitelisting us, you are helping to support the site.

I'm confused. I didn't do anything different. It just BAM, no giant ad. Now I gotta whitelist the site to see the giant ad?

I'm noticing the different layout too and I have premium. Was the layout just changed recently?

I'm not sure what giant ad you're referring to. When I use IE (which I never use and don't have it configured for script blocking etc) I see one medium-sized ad on the right-vertical banner and a small one along the top-horizontal banner. That is, of course, because I'm not logged in when I use IE and premium members don't receive ads period.

I'm still waiting on widescreen ZAM before I consider premium again, or at least whitelisting. The message you guys put in for adblock users is hilarious though. Blocked that too. And your ad divs. Too much wasted space.

I do have ZAM whitelisted, but I have google-analytics and googleadservices blocked by noscript so I don't see ads anyway, and I'm not gonna unblock them just for ZAM.

We recently took down the graphic-based backgrounds for a number of our sites. You'll still occasionally see the advertising-based skins on the sites, but unless we have one running you won't have a graphic on the background anymore.

Hope that helps clarify things.

Stylish plugin for Firefox

ZAM/Allakhazam Widescreen/ad-free Stylish theme

Not perfect, but I'll tweak it when I can.

#15nick2412, Posted: Mar 10 2011 at 3:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Lolplease, I will never ever support a trashy website that censors user inputted content like it's nobodies business. I actually went and turned my adblockpro on to maximum blockage just to make sure ZAM doesn't get anything from me when I surf their website.

nobody's*

And it is their business, technically. Freedom of speech doesn't apply to a privately owned forum, or the Internet as a whole.

I'm not against ads as a revenue source. There are some services I enjoy which wouldn't exist under any other model.

I am against exploiting technology to the point where people get so fed up they develop ways to disable them such as adblock. Online advertising started with insanity and while the industry dialed it back slightly it's still blatantly parasitic. The Ad services industry has not understood the message people have been trying to send but google got it with non-obtrusive ads and it works well for them. I happily have googleadservices whitelisted because they're not in my face greedily exploiting technology.

I will not whitelist 3rd party ads. I will not whitelist animated ads. I will not whitelist types notorious for malware. I have Zam whitelisted and am waiting for the day the black banners asking for me to whitelist 3rd party ads are replaced with non-intrusive and safe ads.
