#1 Mar 13 2011 at 2:09 AM Rating: Decent
Any millionaires out there feel like paying to fly a bunch of FFXIV players out to Japan to help with the relief effort?

If a millionaire was playing FFXIV and offered to send you to Japan to help with the relief effort, would you?
Yes.:69 (63.9%)
No.:31 (28.7%)
No, but only because I am physically/mentally/legally incapable.:8 (7.4%)
Total:108

I would. Just need some random millionaire to step forward now. My passport is already in the mail.

A major reason ppl are millionaires is cause they are fing tightasses, you have a better chance of having an average joe giving you money to go to Japan.

Yes, but there are lots of people that are wealthy that do things charity-wise for the good publicity. One person's selfish act can still be used for good.

No offence, but that last thing they need is a bunch of untrained busy-bodies "helping" them. I's rather see the thousands spent on plain tickets go to relief charities etc. instead...

^ This. I am a nationlly licensed medical lab scientist and the first thing that entered my mind unpon hearing of the eathquake was that I should go assist. The more I thought about it, I came to the conlusion that the best assistance I could probably give them is one less person to accomodate. I am sure Japan has its hands full finding places for all the displaced residences to stay without a huge population influx of 'helpers.'

If traveling assistance was given to displaced residents, temporarily relocating them outside of the country to assist with saving power and other resources, I would be open to the idea of housing a family in Canada.

Thank goodness that doesn't apply to Billionaires (Bill G. etc...)

Not a lot i or anyone else here would be able to do if you were to go. They dont need more people getting in the way going through unstable debris, possibly endangering themselves, they need trained (and organized) rescue'ers and other kinds of aid (supplies, tents, heating).

Us being there will only be a bother to them unless you have a valid way to contribute. If you happen to be a doctor or an engineer, sure. But they already have millions of people in the area doing whatever they can, despite most of them being locals.

Have the millionaire save $1000 on a plane ticket for you and have him spend it on food and supplies to send over instead.

I'm not sure how much help I would be, so I'm not sure if I -should- go, but if I knew I was going to be useful, I -would- go.

I did vote yes though, although I wonder how many people votes yes to make the yes votes look more inflated.

I would go. However, Being older and more worldly experienced than most younger people might be a better idea.
Having dealt with dead and dying people makes me a bit tougher then most people. Working with others is also a plus. Sleeping in the rough is also a requirement. Relief people end up dealing with all of these and more. It's no picnic for anyone who go to places to deal with disasters. Places like the ones in the news can be more than dangerous and people sent in to help can also die in the process.

If anyone wants to help or even try I would suggest joining the organizations that do such things. The Red Cross and others would be a good place to try. Another is studying and becoming a Doctor, Nurse, or an EMT is another way to help. I will add in the military to this because often the government sends in the military to help others in cases like this.

We can't really volunteer though. :( I'm doing what I can to get over there, but it's highly unlikely as we already have plenty of troops in country. I know my skillsets going to be required, but I doubt they really will need any more engineers out there than what they already have... too many cooks spoil... you know how it goes.

well, it probably is better that the professionals take care of the rescue effort so they don't get overburdened by people who don't really know what there doing.

however, i stumbled upon this and i think this man might be able to help...

I am a millionaire.......oh, wait, you meant in RL, my bad.

Seriously, ppl need to stay away. Like others have said, gawkers are not needed. I am a nurse, and if called upon, I would go, however, I still have obligations to ppl here [and yes, I am a registered emergency volunteer].

I'd go in a heartbeat.

Do I have any special training? Nope.

But if all they needed was someone willing to sift through rubble for survivors, man a foodline, hand out blankets, carry children/elderly to relief stations, whatever, I'd be more than happy.

Just give me some ramen noodles and a blanket and I'll sleep on a pile of rubble so I don't take the space someone in need could otherwise use.

Yeah that's gonna happen, aside from the fact they wouldn't give money away on something stupid wtf do you think you would even do? A bunch of useless untrained bodies going out to "help" you would be the kind of people the police would tell to keep back and gtfo the way for the professionals to do their work. (the army is used in situation where they need lots of workers to do phyisical labor work)

As I said this aside from the fact people with money are far far tighter than those without this post is so stupid it's cringeworthy. Really want to help? Get a job and send your whole pay check to the red cross, there you helped 100000X more than you ever could by going out there and standing around like a dumbass lol

It's called Magipoka. It's not available yet to the USA market.

Update on the situation in Japan. The US is pulling all ships and planes and people out/back because of low level radiation being detected. Do you really want to go there now? I highly doubt that you will just get a fine tan or glow in the dark now. Chances you can die from exposure.
