Mom's sister is alive, her house is wrecked and she is staying with her daughter. Daughter's husband is missing.
Many emergency people are missing. The tsunami warning system got damaged by the quake, so the emergency responders went out to the low areas to tell people to evacuate.

Update: I just bought it for only $24 on Amazon Download. Considering the game just came out last month, it would have to be pretty terrible for that not to be considered a bargain. Just an FYI for any RTS fans here.

Don't say that D: Relic has been one of the most successful innovative developers around (You barely see their games the same style, Homeworld -> Impossible Creature -> Dawn of War -> CoH -> Dawn of War 2 -> Spacemarine). Even C&C 5 copies CoH and DoW2 style, and they got pretty good review scores.

Yea I've been playing since HW :P

I took a break from the game before the downtime actually, so this is just an extended break for me at the moment. Soon as they come back up I'll be right back with FFXIV again. At this time I've just been playing other games: LittleBigPlanet 2, Heavy Rain, Perfect World, Pokemon Black, etc.

Do you think rift is good enough to pull people away from FFXIV long term if FFXIV players try rift while the FFXIV servers are down?

Maybe I'm the only one, but every time I give another MMO a chance, I am so disappointed the the character models. Like in Rift, there's only 3 races, basically, the graphics and detail are so low, not to mention the character animations are just silly looking. They all have this funny looking high jumper run, that I just can't stand.

SE put so much work into the character models, and animations, they just seem so alive, and I love it! Sure, Rift has all sorts of content, but once XIV has that, it will be such an amazing game. With Rift, though, you're stuck with those ugly graphics/animations forever..

I mean listen, we all like looking at our own characters... but i didn't make a female char in FFXIV to drool over. Maybe I should have done that.

I personally like my Rift character better than my FFXIV.

Great Graphics hasn't given FFXIV great "GAME" reviews. It's like having a Huge Firework that can't be lit... ppffftttt!

Yes, we all know about the game reviews, which we all know is the 'be all end all' of what determines whether a game is good or not. And we all know the lack of content in XIV is the main reason for the bad reviews. SE kept 11 alive for almost a decade with content, and I have faith that they will with 14.

And I never said anything about drooling over my character, that's just creepy.

I just broke 100hrs of play-time on Monster Hunter tri 3 o__O()

I guess I'm going to have to admit Capcom knows their stuff when it comes to 3d action games! IGN said Tera is Monster Hunteresque, that sounds great. Visually Tera looks stunning too.

For some reason the look of Rift is just complete no-no to me. Nothing feels more un-inviting like basic medieval fantasy for me. I love the way XIV character design has that unique Akihiko Yoshida-twist to it!

I have had time to study for my paramedic class and to research RN programs. I will run with my dogs and maybe get in a few P90X workouts. My wife bought me an NES for my bday, so I ran through Mario bros and may hit up Legend of Zelda and Metroid. A little Black Ops too.

Can anyone recommend a domination game? Something along the lines of "Risk", but newer and better of course. Thanks.

I was contemplating on buying Rift, but after doing some research, I came to the conclusion that I probably should stick with games that are released by my favorite MMORPG company... NCSoft.

And that's when I decided to purchase City of Heroes and City of Villains, Going Rogue.

I did the same thing and was disappointed. I can't get used to the point-and-click or the keyboard based movement options. Where's my controller option?

I may not have given it a very good chance. If you decide you like it, let me know and I'll give it another shot.

Honestly, I love the game so far lol. For starters, I have never played a game with using the keyboard for anything other then typing. Use controller on both FFXI and FFXIV. I couldn't find a controller option for The Witcher. Tried the mouse/point/click set up and it was pretty easy but I really didn't like the top down view and not being able to rotate camera vertically. Went with the keyboard/mouse set up which I was nervous with since I never played a game like that. But, after playing for a bit I got use to it and its very easy for me now. I also like how you can press space bar to pause to change stances or choose magic and such since I kinda fumble things up if trying to do it in the heat of the moment. I had to turn the sensitivity down to 1 though because I felt the camera/target circle was moving way to fast. Combat was confusing for me at first but a lot better once I realized I had to slow down and wait for the sword icon/target to flash to attack again and continue the combos.

I think some of the controls that make it easier to use are not available until its shown to you in a tutorial. I would at least try to beat the prologue and make it to chapter 1 if you can. Things actually open up a lot during chapter 1 and you get to roam around in a much bigger area.

Right on, you are describing the same process I went through!

Sounds like the space bar pause helps for casting magic. I had not yet gotten to the part that opens up for exploration. I'll probably get back to it at some point.

First, I'll be finishing Dead Space 2 on Zealot difficulty. Considering going through a second time on Hardcore (in which you only get 3 saves total!), sounds like a neat idea.

If you're steam-diving I HIGHLY recommend Recrettear. The breakout indie hit of the year.
The humor is worth the going price alone but it's the gameplay that really makes the game shine. AND it's controller compatible without any hassle! Perfect!

I'm not finding any information when I Google it. Care to give it short review? Gameplay type? Setting?

EDIT: It has Demo. You need Steam client.

A few things right now. Team Fortress 2, I play this even when 14 servers are up. Monster Hunter Tri, stopped playing after 14 came out, finally got a wireless keyboard and falling back in love again. Also been playing the chocobo's mystery dungeon on the Wii, always been a fan of the series and this one is extremely good.

I used to this time to try another MMO that I would probably go to if 14 were to ever be pulled, Everquest 2. After they changed to their free to play model i've been meaning to give it a shot, but haven't got around to it. Its a fun game, still banking on 14 and would rather be playing it atm, but a fun game i'll go to if 14 doesn't last.

Hello Mr.icecream hair. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-17-recettear-an-item-shop-s-tale-review

Pretty accurate review. I'd like to add that the timing of effects when you hit an enemy or strike a deal are a major part of the magic of this game. It all feels positively crunchy.

Honestly though the game is so cheap it's worth the money and you're supporting a starting company's 1st game so it's all good =D

I tried Rift, and **** I have more fun playing ff14. Quest quest, do some pvp then close some useless rifts for planar, got lvl 50 and was like what now. Gear is very bland and recycled, worst than ff, characters are stiff, crafting is crazy easy (WoW) I never felt a sense of accomplishment, I swear Rift should F2P more than ff14, Sanctum(Gaurdian starting city)is a lameass tower with shops around it... Anyway can't wait for servers to come up :) If ppl don't mind paying for DCU and rift then they shouldn't mind paying for ff14.

Same here. I had a few hundred borean leather in my inventory one day. I picked the recipe for heavy borean leather, "craft all" and walked away for dinner. I came back and I had like 20 leather craft levels, and zero fails. At the time I was fresh from years of crafting in FFXI, so I was like "Hey this is sweet!". Guess what game I'm not playing anymore. Now, I never did the heroic (hard mode) end game stuff, I know that's ridiculous as far as difficulty, but whoopie... the rest of the game is handed to me. Forget that crap.

Me either. I watched a couple demo videos for Rift and Tera today. All I kept thinking was "Man, I hope FFXIV is back up soon."

I used all the time I would normally spend playing FFXIV on creating an item database and a recipe database on my linkshell's website. As far as I know it's the only database of it's kind that can track SP gains for each recipe.

If anyone is interested here's the link to the site. You can get to the recipe database from the portal page once you have registered and logged in.

Thank you. I read the whole review. Looks very orignal, I may check it out at some point.

I went ahead and downloaded Torchlight for XBOX 360. Took a bit of getting used to the modified controller UI, since I played it on PC for so long. Such a fun game! They did a wonderful job changing it to be controller compatible. Having a blast. If you liked the Diablo, I would highly recommend playing Torchlight while you wait for Diablo III.

I also ordered Tales of Vesperia. I keep hearing that it is not to be missed if you like JRPGs.

I tried STO last year for about 3 weeks, and it was seriously lacking in content, so I reactivated to see what the past year brought. Three days later I was all caught up, lol.
DA2, which was pretty good the first run-thru, little Black-ops, but i don't like it as much as MW2, and some nes/snes roms.
Not filling my XIV void though, can't wait to get back online. I only wish restoring our Japanese friend's country was as easy as restoring our access to Ezorea.

Wonder how this happened. It's not fair at all ViK, but all too common. People will hold grudges, but the Karma system usually works things out after a little while.
