with the servers down and with hope the SE is using this time wisely, whats your fav final fantasy class/job and what if anything would you change about it for ffxiv? My fav has always been Puppetmaster and all I would change would be a smarter AI for the puppet.

Overall, Calculator from Tactics. Beyond that, I have a tough time picking between Black Mage, Monk, Dragoon, and Blue Mage.

Probably dragoon, even though I think its been handled poorly in just about every game that has used it.

As far as this game, I'd like to see lancer (or actual dragoon if they make that) take on more logical qualities of spear/lances. create a better mechanic that promotes keeping distances from the target. implement some jumps, some that damage, shed hate like in FXIV, and even one that moves the character X yards to escape or move out of AOE.

Paladin because of Cecil.
Summoner because of Rydia (in before "she was technically a Caller").
Blackmage because of Tellah (in before "technically he was a Sage").

Terra would be on the list too if I could actually figure out what she was...

Part of me misses the days when a "class" wasn't just someone's job, it was their character.

Caller and Summonner are used interchangeably in some cases.

And Tellah was a BLM and a WHM of equally high capability. I'd say he's more a SCH than a BLM.

Quoth the infallible source of all human knowledge:

Wikipedia wrote:
During his quest, Cecil is joined by others, including Rydia, a young summoner from the village of Mist, Tellah, a legendary sage of Mysidia...

I'm going to have to go with Black Mage, Summoner, and Dark Knight. In that order. With an extra helping of Black Mage.

I just can't get enough of the magical nukes.

Blue Mage. Always loved the 'learning from your enemies' system that they got (plus I looove being able to summon the nice sparkly effects that some of the mobs have - White Wind from FF VII still being one of my favourite, dunno why tho, but I love(d) it) and they always give them nice and quite flamboyant clothes.

Other than BLU, there's, of course, BLM/WHM as a package, mostly cause they made my life in FF games a lot easier than any other class. And there's the more odd jobs from tactics like Geomancer, Animist, Time Mage or Beast Master that were fun to play. Never liked Sage tho, always viewed them a 'smartass' class for some reason. Probably cause of their somewhat pretentious name & possible implications, if I dare say it.

My all-time favorite class would have to be monk.

Something about the epic power of a weapon-less post rat tail character in FFI. Bum Rushing Kefka in VI with Sabin. My character in XI. Even Pugilist in XIV. It was an all around great class. Even my characters in Tactics all had chakra.

Ninja both from Tactics and FFXI.
........I also like Cannoneer as a technology based answer to Black Mage. Thats right, ***** you Black Mages. I like having options to class archetypes: Eva Tank/Meat Tank, Stealth DD/Big *** Weapon DD, Frontline Healer/Backline Healer, Magic Nuker/Techno Nuker.

Dragon.

Loved them since tactics and loved them more in tactics advance due to breath attacks. I sort of like the ever changing nature of Drg...but have just always loved Jump. Jumps my favorite final fantasy ability.

Hmm... In contexts to FF MMOs, I'd have to say RDM was tons of fun, as was BLU. BST pride all the way!

Out of any FF game, I liked the Yuna version of Summoner/White Mage. I did play Summoner in FFXI a bit, but it wasn't nearly as cool, (partly because of Avatar models. FFX Ifrit > FFXI Ifrit), and the fact that it was a highly situational class. Anything in CoP was worth while, but in XP parties, your biggest asset was having the highest mana pool in the game to spam cures that a white mage half your level would still be better at. (Sad, but that's how it worked back in the day).

I know that we probably won't see Summoners. I don't want to ruin the storyline, but I'd say it's a unlikely at this point.

Looking forward to if they ever add Blue Mage or Beast Master/Trainer to the game.

Black Mage would be my favorite but Monk, Dragoon, Samurai, Red Mage, and Summoner I also like. Would like to see more variety of spells implemented such as Blink, Haste, Break, Ultima, Meteor, and much more.

Black Mage by far my all time favorite. Also one of several reasons why IX is my favorite.

I haven't even played Puppet Master except once I grinded it to lvl 2 but surprisingly it's my second favorite job.
It's just so incredibly different. Besides the automatons just look so **** cool.

You read my mind. I would add

Dragoon because of Kain
Dark Knight because of Cecil (lol)

I would consider Terra as a mix of summoner/mage Knight

And considering your last point, I remember Locke and Shadow (thief and ninja) who had their own side story and specific set of gear that made them very different from the rest, for example.

It was not just their ability, it was something more that made that I could not take them out of my fighting team even tho they were not that good

edit: I liked Tellah, but I liked even more the twins who were clearly white vs black mages, or Rosa, for that purpose. Like someone said, Tellah was more of a scholar

Reading this thread makes me remember all the old ff games again. If I ever make a "Do this to change FFXIV" post on the Lodestone forums it would be the suggestion that the whole SE crew should take a hiatus and play those all old ff games again. Those games had a lot of great gameplay concepts that they seem to have totally forgotten now.

Edit: Favourite = Mog break dancing & stumbling.

I wish I could be whatever class Golbez was. I want totally obliterated on the battlefield, and still have my hand crawling around stealing stuff.

On a serious note, I'd say paladin or dragoon.

I think Mimic was probably my favourite. Why play any individual class when you can steal from any class available in your group? I'd like to see some kind of Mimic be implemented into an FF MMO, but it would take some effort to make it really shine.

Dark Knight. The combination of melee/black magic is really cool and the whole style and look of the class is just awesome. Dragoon and Ninja are cool, too.

Blue Mage. Just something about using abilities not native to my own character intrigues me. In FFXI, BLU is the main class that I always wanted to take to 75, but never got around to it. I really want to reactivate and play my BLU now...

Geomancer from Tactics is also one of my favorites.

I enjoyed Summoner, Thief, and Black Mage in FFXI. For FFXIV I'm playing currently with the Conjurer and Thaumaturge, but will also give Gladiator a go. Pugilist might be on the back burner too. My favorite would have to be the attack caster, be it Conjurer, Black Mage, etc...
