I wrote this great artical on the official forums thought i would share guys.

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/3662-Please-read-about-Physical-Levels-and-Removing-them.

There has been discussion amoungst some peers who play FFXIV with me about the potential loss of Physical levels. Some even think it should warrent a new poll regarding this issue alone taking into account the simple fix method this article proposes.

The Devs have outlined that physical levels points alotment as it stands will be changed to a integrated preset on a class by class basis. Potentially making it not possible to be as diverse as it currently can be as it works now pre patch.

We would like to keep the flexability.

Propose these changes then offer the choice of which method should be used and a different answer may be seen.

It is felt that simple changes to the current system might be best and a serious look at the question of weather it should be changed at all. Please take a look at this simple list of changes that might negate the need to substantually change the fundamentals of the game engine.

List of proposed changes:
•When you reasign points it should reassign all points instead of a anoyingly small amount.
•add some ui elements to alot points faster then currently possibly maybe a dropdown or number ticker like the ones used in the sell ui elements for bazaar pricing. including a option to used preset class recomended spec choices
•save assigned points and reload automatically on class change when you apply new weapons. for example you might need to alot points to DEX as a weaver but maybe you are a conjurer or thaumaturge and dont have DEX with current system it would take days to reallot to be optimal to make 1 item.
•save the actions assignments to make changing classes not need such a involved manual overhaul after every simple job/class change.
This simple list of changes to the current system would let us be as flexable as we need to be on the go.

What do you think?

Since I've played a lot of MMOs which awards stats based on your current class/job I'm in favor of scrapping the physical level system since everything important comes from your class rank regardless.

I don't find it too flexible only because attributes as a whole is unbalanced currently so I don't truthfully feel the effects or benefits beyond Vit (HP) and Mnd (MP) so auto statup + appropriate gear (like FFXI) I feel would be a lot better. It's nice to pick and choose what to level up, but the fact stats mean so little in this game currently eh..I think if they focus stats on a class by class basis it would do a lot more for you since the flexibility still comes in the form of mixing and matching skills.

perhaps if they scrap the system and the reliance of spells on stats you might not have an investment in current system might make the use of some spells possible like relying on enfeeble spells that get resisted all the time if your not stat'd. That might work out better in long run i hope they so it justice because once its done if it sucks we probably wont get a 3rd chance.

Im also for scrapping PL. However I think allowing us to assign our points each level instead of just straight auto assign ( FFXI) would still allow for diversification, so it'd be more like FFXI-2 ( as in class progression).
I still want more control over my stats than the standard MMOs but I just don't feel physical levels are needed.

I actually wasnt clear on what the options on the poll actually meant and voted to remove physical levels. After I voted I saw a clearer version of what the options meant and wished I could take my vote back.

I think the physical levels make sense. The more you experience, the more you grow. The more you use an item the better your skill with that item is. I always hated that when you started a new job in FFXI you returned to noob stats. What I'd like to see it changed to is completely separate stat allotments for each of your jobs. That way you would be able to really switch on the fly but still remain different from everyone else. If you want to be a damage dealing Gladiator you'd be able to dump your stats into STR and DEX. However, if youd rather play it more like a Paladin you could instead raise your MND and INT(PIE?). Same with Maurader and playing more like a Dark Knight.

I'm not seeing any downsides to this but maybe I'm overlooking something?

I really enjoy the system how it is.

They stated that part of this was due to wanting to change the math so the calculations for balancing are easier. As if they made the math of the battle system have too many variables, so that a new system is now easier, or perhaps more reliable, than modifying the old.

If this is truly the case, and modifications are now somehow problematic, then I would be supportive of a new stat point system.

Otherwise, slight modifications to the current system seem most reasonable.

Hah, glad someone picked up on this.

I'm pretty much for PL being scrapped, I like starting a fresh job and having it feel seperate from the others I'd levelled. You can still create a mighty e-peen simply by gearing the job well. In addition to that I think they seriously need to sort out the stat-system, and if that means scrapping PL to make it easier it's definitely the right thing to do.

I also don't get it, if people are suggesting allocating points per job WITH the PL system, how is that much different from scrapping it altogether (aside from a HP and MP buff until like 20ish when the cap isn't as noticable)
