An idea that came to my mindFollow

I remember reading on the forums a few days ago that someone heard there would be things people can buy with crysta that would be used to raise money that would be used to help the people in need in Japan. I don't know if these rumors are true, as I haven't really heard anything about them, but I got to thinking this might be a good idea. I think now would be the perfect time for them to come up with a buyable in game item to sell us. Whether the proceeds be donated or not.

I think that a minor, non game breaking item would be a welcome bonus to those enjoying the game, and also give SE an idea of how many people are considering long term play in FFXIV. To keep it fair but also worth buying, they could make it an item that would be added into the game a year or two down the line.

As an example, I'd love to see an SP bonus accessory. Something like a 25-50% bonus for 30 minutes every 24 hours. It would be useable for crafting SP unlike GA, and it would be able to stack with GA.

I think it would be nice to have the option of buying a helpful item like that as a limited time offer. Something to reward the people who have stuck around so far, and who think they'll be sticking around a while longer.

A purchasable in-game item, and proceeds go to disaster relief? At first it sounds like a good idea.

On second thought, the item would become symbolic of the disaster, which would have mixed consequences. I think you are better off contributing directly.

I agree with Smashington. It's a neat idea, but it's better just to donate. I can also see critics going to town on SE because they'd be "capitalizing on a national tragedy", even if a majority of the proceeds went to charity.

They should do what blizzard does, make an item thats only cosmetic for purchase and donate the money to the cause.

It could be a pet, mount, robe etc etc as long as is cosmetic shoot.

I don't like RMT, so no.

Just donate directly to an aid organisation if you want to help.

I've been away all weekend so I'd like to respond to some of you now.

@SmashingtonWho: I know what you're saying. I've donated to red cross too. But I want you to look at it this way. For those people who aren't donating, they may be willing to buy this item, therefore donating without it feel like they're donating. I'm not saying a big expensive item, but with enough players, and 100% donation, they could raise a decent chunk.

@mattkujata: There isn't a reason all of the proceeds couldn't be donated. It shouldn't be THAT difficult to add in an item. The cost to them would be almost nothing.

@insanekangaroo: I'm not sure if that would be considered RMT. It would be more like what they do for FTP MMOs.

I agree 100%, I play FarmVille in my downtime and they did something where you donate and get a new crop you can plant and get a white flag with a red heart in the middle for your farm. I do donate to causes without such things but I find it nice that they do offer this for their player base. They have already raised over 1mil for Japan. I also agree that some people that would not otherwise donate might if there were an in game item offered for doing so. As far as RMT goes that is kind of small minded insanekangaroo considering it would be going to something deserving and we all know is not a scam. Also I do not consider it bad RMT when it is the game itself that is doing it. It is a bit different when you think of it as RMT that sell gil and or goods who are not doing it with SE's permission. Just my 2 Cent.

Right on. Try sending the idea directly to SE and see what comes of it.

I think you are right that some people would donate that otherwise would not. In fact, I would surely donate again if this were offered. There may others who have donated but would appreciate a more direct way of showing support through FFXIV.

I'm still not sure how an in-game item would be veiwed by Japanese players. There are some cultural nuances that might get in the way of the idea of donating for a in-game reward. But in the name of getting extra aid to Japan, this may be tolerated by everyone.

Look, I know saving lives IRL doesn't make you level up at all, but it's still a nice thing to do.

Let's not use a disastrous earthquake as an excuse to implement disastrous micro-transactions.
