Processor Type: AMD Phenom II N930 Quad core
Processor Speed: 2.1 GHz
Hard Drive Capacity: 500 GB
RAM: 6 GB DDR3 SDRAM
Graphics Chipset: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

Would this system play FFxiv? on medium? or low? how laggy would it be?

On low. Not laggy, choppy in town, probably decent on the field. If your laptop is not built with good heat dissipation you could suffer from crashes or shutdowns so you shouldn't set the laptop flat on a table when playing, gas dust your fans and cooling ducts regularly.

It is if you want it to be.

You should be able to get by with that video card on low settings (default 720p, etc.), but you could be happier with something a little stronger if you can afford it. That said, I don't think you ought to go out of your way to drop a huge sum on a new machine just for playing FFXIV with. At least not without trying FFXIV first.

With hardware like that, I'd stay away. I upgraded from an 8800 GTX to a GTX 460 to get better performance in (among other things) FFXIV. The 8800 GTX was a top end graphics card when it was released back in 2006 and guess what, it easily outperforms your Radeon Mobility HD 5650 from last year. Over three years of time advantage and it still gets destroyed. That's how good laptop graphics cards are and it's one reason why you should stay away from laptops if modern PC gaming is what you want to do.

I'm going to say no, unless you want to include 640x480 resolution and low/lowest graphic settings at a poor framerate as playable. Keep in mind that the mobile versions of GPUs are typically going to be significantly less powerful than their desktop equivalents (although I don't believe there is a desktop 5650). The desktop HD 5670 is a very low-end 5xxx family card and still performs at about 200% the level of the mobility HD 5650.

How do you guys know that's a laptop? Just curious. If it indeed is, the following is my laptop configuration, not sure how it compares:

Windows 7 64bit
i7 Q740 @ 1.73Ghz
8gb ram
650gb hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT435 w/ 1gb ram

The game defaults to "medium" settings when I installed it, and seems to run well in town. I haven't tried it in battle, but it's very smooth when I'm alone in an isolated area (fishing leves in Black Shroud)

I started this character at the CE launch, and played for about 2 months. Haven't touched it since.

Yeah, any "Mobility Radeon" is a laptop video card (exception: iMacs use Mobility Radeon too, although some would argue that it's pretty much the same as a laptop). Any GeForce ###M is also a laptop card.

Furthermore, laptop equivalents of hardware are ALWAYS SIGNIFICANTLY WEAKER than their desktop counterparts. A Mobility Radeon 59XX is on par with a desktop 5770. I wouldn't even recommend a 5650 in a desktop for XIV; a Mobility 5650 is going to be really weak.
