As part of power conservation measures enacted following the Tohoku earthquake, our game servers were shut down on Mar. 13, 2011 3:00 (PDT) and services for FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline (hereafter referred to as "these services") were temporarily suspended. We have determined a date for the restoration of these services, and would like to share this information with you.

Operating the servers for these services makes up 11.6% of the total power consumed by our Tokyo office (based on February 2011 records). We have shut down our air conditioning system (8.8%) and enacted other power conservation measures, such as reducing lighting in our offices, to achieve over 10% in energy usage reductions. With these energy saving measures in place, we will be able to bring our servers back online and restore service to FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline on Mar. 25, 2011 4:00 (PDT). All other services, such as those offered on the PlayOnline website, that were temporarily suspended will also be restored at the same time. Please be aware, however, that we may once again be required to suspend services in the event that the power situation worsens.

We offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of these services, and thank you for your understanding. As noted in our original notice regarding the suspension of these services, customers will not be charged any monthly fees for FINAL FANTASY XI throughout the April billing cycle.

We at the Square Enix group are trying to act in a proactive manner in order to provide support towards the relief and restoration efforts in the face of this unprecedented disaster while providing reliable service to our customers, and we thank you for your understanding and support.

I'm grad to ear this of course and would like to thank alchemist specially for the "proper" translation. Reading the above I somehow got the idea that SE was responsable for 11.6% of Tokios power comsumption... I was like holy mother of god....

Please try to not be suprised if they don't come back on line on the 25th. The situation is far from being over and they may be asked to conserve more or even go without power for more days.

I thought the same thing. I know that can't be the case. They must be saying that they will not be using their air conditioning and cutting down on use of lighting and other things, which will cut down their power useage by roughly 11% from what it normally would be.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I'll in some random location around the USA when the servers boot up. I just hope I have a good 3g connection wherever that may be. I'm also glad I have very little data usage this month, I haven't updated the game on my laptop in months, so there will probably be a good size download.

There are a few very specific situations that would require a rollback. A planned shutdown is not one. :)

This is a really nice gesture. Do they really even need to apologize? We are sorry because our country was hit by 2 natural disasters and a man-made one? I don't think an apology is needed.

It's good buisiness to appologize, it's culture specific to appologize even though they shouldn't have to. While I don't play XI anymore, it is a nice gesture. They could have charged a half a month if they wanted, or even a whole month I'm guessing as hidden somewhere in the ToS something about acts of God.

Read a response from a community Rep on the XI Forums in wqhich he said that the clocks continued to run. So everything should be in place and everyone's Anima and Favor should be full.
