New Nvidia Beta DriversFollow

#1 Mar 30 2011 at 10:03 AM Rating: Good
I haven't tested for improvements for XIV, BUT some people are reporting better FPS at lower heat on 400 series cards for certain games. Also it adds (or enhances) support for XIV in 3d Vision on 5XX cards. Also new is a (finally!) feature that annoys you like Adobe and lets you know when there's an update available... which ultimately I'd rather have GPU Driver Update notifications than an Adobe one daily ^.~

go to www.nvidia.com for non-64 bit W7 drivers and click the archived and beta drivers tab

Downloading as I type, will get back if I notice some improvements with my setup (hopefully heat wise) Surround gaming is **** when it comes to heat.

There's a lot of Surround fixes in the notes... sadly I'm STILL downloading the **** patch. Max connections but it's just being super slow for some reason tonight. Oh well... looking forward to your results.

i usually stay away from beta drivers, just the word beta to me makes me think of bugs/glitches i dont want to deal with, i usually wait for the WHQL release. im still using 266.58

From the last few years, I've found Nvidias Betas to be pretty stable. Maybe an obscure game here or there that gets FUBARd but nothing serious. I don't game much on my laptop, but it's ALWAYS had Beta drivers from ATI(*caugh* AMD( and never had any serious issues either... nothing you couldn't roll back from any way. 5+ years ago? Yeah I'd steer clear of EVERY Beta.

performance is roughly the same as the 267.24 beta -/+ 3 FPS, however heat output has increased by 5~7 degrees. i guess if you needed all FPS you could muster this is for you...however i do not, ill take the FPS hit for the lesser temps.

That's a bit odd, I'm only running a single monitor but with dual 470's... Heat was slightly lower (maybe 1-2 degrees so we won't count it) and FPS in town is up 4-6, I didn't get a chance to run outside and do the plant test as plants are what fry my cards... Oni did you test them yet?

*EDIT* Forgot to mention I'm coming off the last WHQL release I didn't keep the last Beta drivers

3d framerate got a huge boost, but at the cost of non 3d with surround, temps seems to be a few degrees cooler but not sure if that is due to the drivers or the new case fans I put in. Will test and dabble a bit once I get the rest of my crap together with my pc. Currently waiting on some cables to be delivered at some point today to hook up the rest of my fans.

i'm running two GTX460's OCed at 825/1650/1950.

my stupidity didn't turn off the oc, so i went back and checked it again after cold reboot and oc off.

still 2~4 degree's higher than the last beta and the FPS was actually a Bit higher with an increase of about 4~6fps than last beta, that's non OC Gain mind you.

the slightly higher heat is well worth the price of admission, that's (my opinion).
