New player here...just wondering, why do people/retainers post items for 999,999,999gil? Just wondering what the community think about this/what it accomplishes...

A lot of it is because people who have been playing for a while fill up their inventory slots and use the bazaar to hold items they'll use later(Mats for crafters, arrows for archers, etc.). And probably sometimes it's just to be silly.

In some cases it could be showing off something nice. A way to say "You will never get this, you will never get this!" = D Or perhaps they might sell it if given a great offer.

Yea, that can be annoying for a new player expecting to see stuff actually for sale when checking all those bazaars. Would be nice if you could put up another icon with it that says "I'm not really selling the stuff in here, it's just storage". Because a ton of people do that...

It's stuff they don't want to sell, but have no more storage space available in the normal slots.
It's easier to set the price at maximum than set it at 5M.

Edit....beat me to it.
And what happened to my banner thing below my post??

What I want to know is why I've seen so many things set at 101,010,101.

Stacked items, they set the total price to 999,999,999...but you see the unit price

I'm guilty of this, as charged. It's not to be cute, though, but, rather for additional inventory space, and it's for items I commonly use for repairs for my weapon and gear.

People do it on their retainers too so that the retainer will wear the cute outfit they've picked out.

Apparently I've been working on computers for too long, because I thought it was some joke related to binary code... I think I need to get out more.

This. In order for your retainer to sport the garbs you want them to wear, those items must be listed in the bazaar.

I think someone may have mentioned this in a few posts back, but I put my items up for max gil to prevent myself from accidentally selling an item when I "clean" my inventory by selling my junk to the NPC. Uraeus skin comes to mind in particular since I used to NPC sheepskins (which now I have come to regret).

Just an offhand thought, is 999,999,999 gil the maximum gil you can hold at one time? As in just in your currency tab, if you got to 999,999,999 gil would you simply not get any money earned after that? If so, then with retainers you would be limited to 2,999,999,997 gil. I wonder if anyone will reach that
