Public Companies vs Private CompaniesFollow

Rumor has it that in an up coming patch they will release "Public Companies" with quests. Though I am excited for any new content I was really hoping to have "Private Companies" introduced.

I see the Public Companies as just an other, go to an NPC and have a party of 4 do a quest.

On the flip side, rumors around Private companies having/making boats and houses seems exciting to me. Though these rumors have been out since launch in no recent letters have I seen any hope for private companies in the future.

Any thoughts guys? Are you happy with the soon to be "Public" companies or are you more excited about the "Private" company system I hope they install?

I am neither pleased nor displeased by the change, as we have yet to see what it entails. However, Yoshi-P has made it fairly clear in recent letters that the Grand Companies are not separate from private companies, but rather replace them. It is likely that the groundwork for cooperative crafting put down by Tanaka-san's team will get put to use in other ways, but based on what Yoshi-P has said, I would be fairly confident in predicting that Grand Companies are going to be the only companies.

Grand Companies may simply be the general term for "public" and "private" companies. They could add pretty much anything under that banner.

Too little info is known to say for sure though.

I can't think of hearing anything suggesting that companies would be private, or than hinted when they said that they would be more complex and than linkshells.

At this point, I'm expecting companies to be roughly the same as the class guilds, and will belong to the in game factions.

I must admit I am too lazy to look up the exact reference, but this theory/rumor stretches back to the Open Beta. I believe it was something Tanaka-san mentioned later in the Open Beta which implied that Companies would be player run groups that would be provided with a wide variety of group management tools, as well as content only availible to player run companies similar to EVE. More recently, Yoshi-P has commented that upon closer investigation, they had decided to switch to Public Companies, which would be NPC driven content. Finally, in his Letter VI, Yoshi-P announced that they would be called Grand Companies of Eorzea.

In reality, we have so little to speculate on, Grand Companies really could be just about anything, as per Hyanmen and my comments earlier.

This doesn't help with trying to figure out the system either:

This is the X factor I'm not certain about. It's worth it's own notice in the letter of the producer so it's gotta be something worth mentioning at least.

Private run companies with player driven content as well as a series of npc events or goals was the initial intention under Tanaka I bet. However, due to the reception of how anything with non linnear elements has been received so far.(I love everything in concept just needs streamlined)

I'd imagine they probably take companies more in the Public company direction, to avoid the months of readjusting to players complaints. Or risks having to can a lot of hardwork again. God forbid they try something new to try and impress their audience. Final Fantasy fans are a nostalgic or rigid bunch. That's one reason why most often the fans don't agree on which FF is best. Not that the things they tried were rushed and not developed long enough. The launch was evidence of that. But creating, adjusting, demolishing, will slow down the progress of any game.

I actually think its just going to be FFXIV's version of Besieged and Campaign. I was hoping for something more like actual guilds, with a guild house, guild logo, etc etc. However, I would be very pleased with massive PvE events. Its one of the few things Rift is doing right. Although I am pretty sure they borrowed the concept from FFXI.

Yeah I was thinking maybe an improved "Conquest" system. It would actually be nice if teleport was anima-free (or cost reduced) in areas that your company controls for example.

Whatever the meaning they give to the companies I think it will be good to add the feeling that you belong to a group somewhere and that your actions have a consequence at other scales than just your character.
