my macros are basicly just to change to a different class so i dont have to waste time equiping stuff and sorting out actions..

but im seeing people ask on how to make certain macros for abilities, when there allready there on the bar. i cant see the reason on using macros due to the fact that there are really no reason (UNLESS IM WRONG PLEASE TELL ME) to change gear for WS and other abilities like there was in 11

am i doing something wrong?

I don't even have 1 macro setup yet with this new character. I'm getting to the point where I should do a few gear swap ones between craft, gather, & fighting and then some for abilities perhaps. I've been going the lazy route with fairly generic setups for everything. Being a controller user, a macro is pretty much the same steps as using the action bar itself so there's not much need to set up action macros.

Some people macro their basic attack multiple times kinda like a half-assed auto-attack. Others probably have emergency cure macros & such. Maybe at higher levels some have battle regimen ones?(Wouldn't know about that)

To make up for the other missing 10 action bar slots.

Because SE gives us a battle system where you need to equip around 20 abilities but only give us 10 ability slots.

You have to use ****** macros for the rest of your abilities.

****** macros that are not readily visible, and don't show recast information. Unless you stick a /recast in them and then you clutter the spammy battle log even more.

Macros should be used when you want to trigger several abilities with one button, not to make up for ****** GUI.

I use macros for Weapon Skills so I do not have to change my action bar up and down. Mainly this is for soloing so I can keep my reactionary skill on my main bar to see my timers at all times and hit them easier (like Jarring strike and Fracture). The other habit I have from 11 is making a recast macro, I use this for certain abilities I wanna see timers for but can not fit on the #1 action bar list, for example Invigorate is on my 2nd bar and I have a recast macro for it so I know when its back up for use.

Other than that like the OP said I use them to change jobs and abilities.

I use keyboard so I just have all my abilities set to the bar.. and it takes no effort at all to just switch which action bar I'm using.. .hit a WS/buff... and move on with my attacking...

Macros I use are:
/br : To start and end a Battle Regime
Class switchs: All my crafting/gathering/battle
oh ya, I also have one for Accessories, since those are a bit different than regular equipment~

Thats it!!! There is really no sense of urgency because of the slow pace of battles and stam bar... I can take my sweet time selecing and using abilties....

I also use mine for equipping different class gear, nothing more. Perhaps if I ever get a DoW/DoM to 50 I'll make use of them but atm they're unnecessary

I use them mostly for abilities and magic so that I don't have to switch command bars while fighting..

Not much since the action bar is almost the same thing as a macro. We can't macro in gear mid fight(would be no reason anyways with stats meaning nothing), and can get to anything on the action bar fast enough.

Only thing I use it so far is for things that I want a faster reaction on, like Feint or a stun WS.

Heck, I was just wondering if they are going to expand the action bar and give us more. With the amount of AP we now have at 50, we can easily fill up all 3 bars pretty much. And we pretty much got a new ability every other level gained. So how they gonna do it when they raise the cap? Stop giving us abilities? Give us more action bars? keep our AP and bars the same but make us cut down on what we put in there?

I also use macros to change jobs. But I also use it to cast spells quickly. As I have since the days of XI. I enjoy playing with a controller, and there you go.

I have three major problems with the macro system as-is, however. First, the vastly inferior amount of macros we can make up, compared to XI. Second, the fact that macros still can't initiate other macros.

But mainly? WTF is up with the second or so delay between each piece of gear swapped? Once upon a time, in a prior game, I was able to hit a macro or two within a moment of each other, and suddenly be dressed up in an entirely different set of gear. Boom. Done. Admittedly, stats don't mean what they should, and as such, gear with stats doesn't mean what it should...but seriously, who at SE thought that delay was a good idea?

I use 1 macro per class to equip mainhand and offhand and gear for DoW and DoM.
2 macros are reserved per DoW/DoM to set 20 abilities/skills. (I've only set them up for 1 class atm)
1 macro for every DoH and DoL to change mainhand and offhand and abilities.
5 macros to unequip gear and to equip crafting gear, gathering gear and accessories.
20 macros (10 for STRG and 10 for ALT) for the most usefull and needed abilities/spells/skills

That way I can put my reactionary skills, weaponskills and class specific abilities in the main bar and use the ALT and STRG macro bars like they were used in FFXI.
I use these macros because I don't like swapping action bars.

Since I've been mainly playing my DOM class I tend to use macro's quite a bit for things such as Cure/Sacrifice as I'm quite often changing my targets and I can have one hand for target changes and the other to fire off cures. I also use to put messages in to the party when I'm buffing etc (Protect and Shell, Shock spikes and Stonekin), the rest of my macros (and I use all 1-0CTRL and all 1-0 ALT) are more situation specific. I have been playing DOW quite a bit recently although I am still quite low in rank I tend to only use macro for self curing purposes so don't use them nearly as much.

I have the feeling that we will get like 2 more bars when the cap will be raised..

On a side note.. some people should quit being lazy and make their macros, I saw too many die because they couldn't carry out actions quickly enough.. :/

What they should actually implement is action bar memory based on classes.. a separate set of bars for each class so that you don't have to set abilities up everytime you change it..

/eaction 2 "Cure"
This will set Cure as action 2 on your bar, you can set up macros to change all your abilities when you switch jobs.

Yes, I know you can do that.. but honestly if it was automated, changing classes would be a smoother process..

i have macros for changing classes and more importantly for battle regs.

Doing brs any other way is slow and inefficient.
