Surprising amount of NMs added in the patch. I think the top 3 are high level and the rest may be low level content?!

Yup, got some rank 30 truly unique looking equipment, and thats just a few of the drops obtained. Cant wait to see who drops what, and hunt these guys down. Going to take some dungeon delving too. I wonder what else is in store, or if some of these are tied to company content...

Looks like the roaming NM content they mentioned not too long ago. These are probably lottery or timed pops although some could easily be quest NM's too. With these NM's they added 4 times the amount of actual NMs then the last NM update and across multiple level ranges at that.

Hopefully these high level ones drop some gear for the classes that were somewhat shafted by the original NMs

Though these creatures can appear hauntingly similar to existing monsters, their ferocious nature sets them apart from their weaker cousins. Many an adventurer has met an untimely demise by failing to recognize risks that come with engaging these deadly adversaries. To ensure you fare better, this post not only includes in-depth views of three select notorious monsters, but provides screenshots for all twenty being introduced. It will also take a first-time look at three pieces of epic gear obtainable by slaying the beasts.

Bomb Baron

Feared around the realm for reducing all it touches to ash, the Bomb Baron pursues its prey with a passion hotter than the whitest forge. Legend says this abomination was once an adventurer who made his name culling thousands upon thousands of bombs across Eorzea, until one day a stray bomb caught him unawares and he died of burns rendered by the voidsent's timely explosion. Upon hearing of the soul's arrival in the fiery depths of the sixth ****, the Bomb King snatched it up and used ash from his own body to resurrect the adventurer as a bomb. He dubbed the creation the "Bomb Baron" and sent him back to Eorzea, telling him that his soul would suffer eternal torment until he had taken the lives of as many adventurers as he had bombs.

Phaia

Until recently, the sylphs celebrated a traditional springtime festival known as the Dance of the Tusks, in which tribe elders would enter a ring armed only with a spear and a cape, and test their mettle against ferocious wild boars. When a tragic accident led to one of the elders being gored and eaten, however, the tribe was left with little choice but to abandon their heritage. Fearing the wrath of the elementals, the sylphs canceled all future Dances and set the remaining boars free, including the fattened male champion, Phaia, who still roams the Black Shroud, his bloodlust as intense as the day he gained his freedom.

Kokoroon Quickfingers

A multi-talented qiqirn thief, it is said that Kokoroon Quickfingers is so nimble that he can empty a man's purse and have the pouch back on his belt quicker than the blink of an eye. Originally from La Noscea, Kokoroon earned fame in the Sailors Ward of Limsa Lominsa where he would use his deft digits to strum jolly tunes on his lute, luring audiences into absent-minded revelry. Then, during intermissions, he would mingle with crowds, laughing and sharing tales, all the while snatching coins from the pockets of his unsuspecting victims. Needless to say, it was not long before Kokoroon had a bounty placed on his head by the Knights of the Barracuda, and was forced to flee across the Strait of Merlthor to the parched deserts of Thanalan where it is said he still wanders today, lute in hand, ever in search of his next victim.

This staff is said to have been created by a powerful conjurer who took the taproot of an ancient rosewood tree burned to the ground by a levinbolt, and fixed to it a ceremonial sun mask used by the primitive tribes on the distant southern continent of Meracydia. The magicked weapon is said to grant its wielder the ability to hear the whispers of the elementals.

This massive shield carved from maple and draped in thick sheep leather is presented by Ixali tribal elders to warriors who have shown exceptional bravery in battle. Once received, its owner will use the shield until it literally falls to pieces; the damage it bears proof of the battles the shield has seen. The twin spikes protruding from the lower section of the frame can be used as hooks to rip an opponent's shield from his hands or destroy it altogether.

The Loyalist's Bilaud is a thick coat of indigo velveteen that was once awarded by the Pontifex to musketeers who performed exemplary deeds in service of the Holy See of Ishgard. The grossly oversized shoulder pads and billowing drapery about the hem make for a stunning silhouette, and the look was considered à la mode for many decades. The garment was far from practical for use on the battlefield, however, as the gaudy design proved an easy target for enemy archers.

Is that shield going to be used to make something else? Hope so. Seems good for magic users, but as a Gladiator, my Bronze Scutum seems to be better all around. Then again, there might be some single job exclusive items besides weapons.

I think it's more likely to be a play on the 'Cactus Jack' from some wild west movie I can't remember the name of.

It was quite a shock to see so many NMs added when it seemed like it was a minor point of the patch, given that the first NM patch only gave us 5 mobs. If SE plans on dropping a lot of things like this all at once in the future, they should probably let us know in advance so we can put our minds at ease weeks ahead of the patch. Why wouldn't they wanna get us excited for this stuff if they know it's guaranteed (inb4 "SE doesn't know what they can really add until days before" nonsense)

But, needless to say, I'm excited!

I can't wait to hunt these NM's, especially if the thoughts on the midrange NM's become true.

As for the new gear, I'm hoping for some more weapons for all classes, they are rather sparse and spread apart. I've found myself using maybe 5 weapons taking archer from 0-41 and theres only one left (Crab Bow). As a comparison in FFXI taking PLD from 0-61 I upgraded at least 10 times...and had some other weapons used for NM hunting or other speciality tasks.

And, as a secret wish, I hope they totally surprise us and release musketeer along with some other classes..(Yeah Unrealistic I know, but as my LSmates say "You really have a hard-on for musketeer)

And about Cactuar Jack.. I think it's a play on "Cactus Jack" which happened to be the title of a track in the FFVIII OST..

Same goes for the gear. Sure the staff might be unique, and the ruined shield thing has not been done before, but the body is just a recolour of an existing piece again. Sure, these arent all the items they're going to release (i hope), but you'd have to imagine these were the "picks" from the entire batch. You'd imagine hand selected items for display/showing off would be the best of their kind, which kind of has me worried about the rest of the items. If these are the best/prettiest items among them, just how much of a recolour is the rest of it?

hate to point it out to you but it even says right out in the lodestone post " even though they look identical..."

and just for everyones FYI, in FFXI, their were two types of NMs, HNMs which look differently than other mobs, and regular NMs which almost always look identical to regular mobs.
boy do i remember whacking a Dhalmal in tahrongi canyon when i first started only to have it obliterate me... needless to say i forgot to examine it only for it to be an NM.

lol I remember the first time I got Leaping Lizzy in FFXI.. it happened casually, I didn't even know it was a NM and I was a level 7 WAR.. it ended quickly.. as I got totally owned in the first 5 seconds lol..

Loyalist's Bliaud looks disappointingly close to 20+ other pieces of armor already in the game.

I like the fact that it's exclusive but at this point I haven't seen new work of 3d modelers in ages. They can't be too busy to make new gear instead of just palette swaps. NM's are re-named mobs what can they possibly be doing? Maybe companies have some 3d models?

Jeebus what do you guys expect? this is "Low" rank gear they will eventually raise the lvl cap above 50 probably giving us access to at minimum 75 by some point. I personally don't want totally new designs for every piece of r20-30 gear. The basic give and take is "uniqueness of gear vs quality of models" if we want every piece of gear to be original designs then they need to scale down the quality to make it fit on screen. If we want the highly detailed designs we have currently then we sacrafice some reskining. I'm all in favor of new items but I hope they reserve the best for down the road when we get truely epic HNM's and dungeon crawler content.

Gotta love the variety of NM's when i'm bored I'll have a variety of NM's to go hunt and hopefully some sweet company quests to tackle as a group.

hes saying they havent implimented new models for any of the newer content. we will now have a ton of NMs and equipment to pick and choose from, but they are all just stat variants of the same models.

NMs in a lot of MMOs I play are from the same species -- they tend to be bigger, have more markings, a lot stronger than the normal fauna or are a lot bigger so I'm not sure how this is a problem. Gear wise all MMOs recycle gear in some way, rather it's the coloring, the design or the base model especially if it's low level gear and not end-game gear.

"I do not like Green eggs and Ham..."

Yes...they can be TOO busy...that's what we want them to be.

They are trying. The country imploded just over a month ago. Yet..they are trying. They could have easily just shut this thing down.

this is very exciting! i hope there is more than those 3 pieces of gear tho (i know i know, they wont show us everything etc.)

however im not gonna get much chance to do this due to i have no LS and as sad as this is, i really have not made any friends on FF14 (not made enimies tho) i find it much harder to do on 14 than i did on 11, so as exciting as this is, its a bit of a kick in the teeth at the same time for me haha :(

I'm most excited about this:

"Patch 1.17 will also see the introduction of class-specific equipment. If an item's help text states that it "requires" a certain class, only adventurers of that class will be able to equip the item."

This is a first step towards making classes more unique. And it means that each class will be getting new items. They only showed a couple pieces. Who cares if many of the models are similar right now. In my opinion it means that we will have gear that begins to highlight abilities given to each class.

Corrected a mis-statement.

Well SE showed three pieces of gear: the staff is new; the shield is new; and the jacket is new. I can't fathom the reasons people are complaining about this. the jacket may look kind of like the Gown model, but you should notice that the bottom and the sleeves are different; also, I don't recognize those belts on anything I've ever seen.

Am I wrong about the body piece? I don't think so, but even if I am, you're still complaining about "reused equipment models" when two-thirds of what they showed was new. >_>

most of it was level 30 stuff, its not at cap or meant to be worn for huge amounts of time, so I don't care that they aren't all that unique. I am hoping that we'll start to see things with more special abilities, and less things with just better than average stats, but I suppose we'll need to see what the new battle system looks like before they want to start implementing gear that could later end up being a problem.

looks good, can't wait to see what the new NMs drop. Hopefully some of the gear they drop will be class specific, and possibly have some color variations over some of our standard gear.

Also hope we can solo or duo some of them at rank 50. I hope most of them aren't rank 20-40 mobs.
