hmmmmm...U-torrent speed DL 1+mb/s UL 30-80kB/s
SE patcher <15Kb/s 2-8kB/s

Seems there is a problem here......Smiley: frown

It is a shame that it is against the rules to post the patch on a website. Oops....guess not :)

I want to remember similar speeds with their native patcher. When I switched to using uTorrent, it was a lot faster. In fact I just tested and I was getting the same numbers that you posted. I wonder why they insist on using such a slow delivery mechanism to distribute their patches? (Please I hope I don't get rated down for this next jest) Are they clients using the market ward search tool to locate & download the participating torrent clients? (^_^)

If you are using an antivirus, turn off your firewall to download the patch.
If you have a router, connect directly to the internet
Or forward FF XIV ports;
UDP: 55296-55551 and 443
TCP: 54992-55551

Guarantee your download will be >

Do you have a firewall/router? If you do look one post above yours. A little reading goes a long way.

I turned off firewalls and connected directly to the internet via cable, but whend downloading it still goes to 0 B/s download speed. What could be blocking the download? Thank you!

If you have 0 Remote Connections, follow these steps first:

Start menu > type in "run" > type in "cmd" > at the dos prompt type in "ipconfig"

Write down your IPv4 Address: 192.152.X.X

This is your router's IP address. Type this address into the address bar of your browser. Erase everything else in the address bar first.

Now you need to forward your ports. Every router is slightly different. First go to something like "Advanced Settings" > then "Firewall" or "Security Options" > then look for the option to add an exception. It may be called a "Pinhole".

If you are not getting Remote Connections when you download client patches, you need to manually configure Port Forwarding. This is done by accessing your router. Note that sometimes your internet modem also has a built in router. Without Remote Connections, downloading patches is going to be a very, very slow and painful process.

ive never seen a more erratic downloader in my life.

edit: I just bought the game tonight, figuring I'd give it a second chance since I haven't played since beta.

oh boy, this isn't a good sign. The downloader was absolute **** in Sept. and it's still absolute **** now. Not good, my friends, not good at all.

I have 27 local connections and my antivirus is off. I'm just saying that it's insanely erratic. It'll sit at zero b/s for a minute, then jump to 600, then to 1MB/s, then down to 200, then to 15, then to 10, then to 0. It's ridiculous.

edit: you know what MMO doesn't have this problem or require utorrent?

Every other MMO in history.

Oh I must be in an alternate history of Earth, because every time many other MMOs have patch topics like "Where's the manual patch download" pop up so often in their forum.

Begin rant

Must be. I've played FFXI, WoW, LOTRO, WAR, Aion, Rift, and AoC, and not once, ever, from 2004 through today, have I had to download a third party program to update the game, or had a download rate as wild as what I've seen with this one. Come to think of it, what in the **** is this "clickandbuy.com" business? Why can't I tab out of full screen mode without the game going berserk? Where else do you ever hear of that? Why in god's name do I have to exit out of the game and open an entirely different program, just to edit my video options or game controller mapping? Never before has there been a game that's a more clumsy, cumbersome, or purposefully inferior product then it's predeccesors. FF XIV is the definition of counter-intuitive progression in the development of the MMO world. It's the equivalent of unleashing hard core theocracy and the black death on the world at the same time. Yes, I just compared this game to the medieval ages in world history. You must be experiencing the alternate history where FF XIV isn't far and away the biggest bomb to ever show it's *** on this green Earth.

End rant

Look, it is what it is, just because you like the game, doesn't mean you have to be blind to it's obvious fallacies. It's not nessesary to protect the game just because the graphics are completely astounding and the soundtrack is masterful. I'm still holding out much hope for FF XIV but I'm not afraid to raise the BS flag when it's warranted.

Why is downloading the same torrent through utorrent faster? I found this to be the case myself, but it's not any sort of limitation on the downloader--I installed the game from scratch this weekend, and old updates downloaded at top speed. It was only the newest patch which was slow, presumably because a lot of other people were downloading it.

This suggests to me that the SE downloader is somehow using your upload bandwidth or total uploaded amount to regulate your download capacity. When you use a third party torrent downloader, you don't hit those restrictions, so you get it full-speed, but you're eating up the download capacity of the people relying on the main FFXIV client.

guess what I just did?

I downloaded a 64MB patch in Rift in under 25 seconds.

guess what I didn't have to do?

I didn't have to fiddle around with a 3rd party downloader or **** around with firewall settings, and this game just came out 2 months ago. Isn't a truly polished game a thing of beauty?

Now excuse me while I buy items from the AH, mail items to my friends, ride my mount, do more then 8 quests per 36 hours, tab out of the game whilst in full screen mode, adjust my video settings without having to close the game out, manually sort my inventory, gather materials and craft items in mere seconds, link items in the chat window, hover over my stats to see how they affect me, actually be able to purchase gear from a vendor, not look like the main event at a *** pride rally, and discuss the greatness of Rift in the zone chat channels.

B-but XIV's patch files aren't 64MB, they're 300 MB!
And when they hotfix their patches several days later, you have to download the same 300MB all over again!

lmao

The funny thing is on my screen right now there are no less then 3 banners for Rift. Amazing advertising campaign.

My first love was FFXI though, I've got to admit that. I'll always love that game. It's in that memory that my main character in Rift is a 44 Cleric named Gustaberg.
