Call me too optimistic but I was hoping these new quests would at least have tiny cutscenes. I guess I slowly have to start accepting the fact that the most worthless, repeatable trash-quests in XI that didn't have cutscenes are now the standard of all quests in XIV.
Who am I kidding! I still have hope that the upcoming Company-quests are made with a bit more story in them =D If they're the same as these ones I honestly don't know what is there that can keep me playing unless the gameplay itself suddenly turns awesome ofcourse.
I know it's perhaps shallow of me but the story and cutscenes has always been the favourite aspect of Final Fantasy games. I especially like the way cutscenes in XI quests make them feel like not just filler content and some of their stories are more memorable than the main missions. ("Candle making" for example and all the related quests)
The writing in XIV seems to lack emotion compared to what we've seen before in FF titles. For example the lantern quests in Gridania have an interesting setting to them but the characters seem to be almost absent from them. Nobody seems to really care what's going on and the people don't have any lives or history that connects them to these events. It ends up as sounding like the janitor is explaining his duties and asks you to do them in his behalf.
It might be also the lack of quest-music (the kind we heard during XI quests with cutscenes) that makes them seem cold and emotionless.
