Recent news, class uniqueness questionsFollow

#1 Apr 16 2011 at 9:58 PM Rating: Decent
I think it was in the recent upcoming patch notes that i read class uniqueness was being adressed by adding new classes, such as white mage, and also class specific gear. So i was wondering if it was true about the new classes and also if the new gear is going to be like Final Fantasy XI, how only stated jobs could wear it? Sorry didnt understand the dev post ^^;;

They're not adding classes yet. What was being considered is what's regarded as the dev tag [dev 1033] which is changing the names of current classes to more classic Final Fantasy names. Such as Paladin instead of Gladiator and Monk instead of Pugulist.

They've already added class-specific equipment in patch 1.17, it's identified by the "Requires:" phrasing prior to the list of classes.

PGL has no right being called MNK. It's nowhere close to being a MNK :)

lol, I'm with you. I don't see how they're going to call a pit fighter (i.e. Gladiator) a Paladin. The only one that I could really see working without drastic changes to lore, location and abilities is Lancer, even then they'd still need some form of a jump ability to truly be a Dragoon.

That and I suppose Marauder could become Warrior, but Marauder makes them sound like the pirates they are.

Just give me some more classes to level, clearly leveling 14 classes actively isnt enough! Seriously tho i'll take a few new classes.

I think the main two classes that need to be changed is CON and THM. I think those are the two classes that people don't know what to make of.

In the last letter from the producer Yoshi said that he was implementing a job system. And he's also said in the past that he wants to make traditional names advanced classes or something like that.

I agree, it was pretty dumb in my opinion to try and cram all of the games magic into 2 classes.

Yeah, what the heck was with that idea? I scratch my head every time I think about it. XD

I'd be fine with it if those two jobs were White Mage and Black Mage -- that's a distinction that goes back beyond even the first FF game. In a game where you can use abilities from another job any time you want, there's really no reason to have hybrid jobs.

But, two mage jobs that are both a mix of the two magic types makes very little sense.

Letter of the Producer VIII hints that the new classes are going to be part of an upcoming job system rather than an Armoury system. It was also hinted in an interview that they wouldn't just rename current classes, they plan on introducing the standard FF classes as specializations or advanced jobs.

Haha: "You want this to be 'Final Fantasy,' you better get ready to earn it, b*tches!"

Seriously though, I've not been disappointed with any announcement made in the last couple weeks, and I look forward to seeing what SE devises.

Pugilists aren't Monks, they are Yakuza.

Letter of the Producer VIII wrote:
To sum up, we’re updating those aspects of the game whose priority is high, and which can be updated relatively easily, while more radical and profound changes, such as those revolving around latency, auto-attack, battle, the Armoury system, the job system, dungeons, movement, modes of transport—these are currently under development on their own, completely independent schedules.

That’s the first time I dropped word of the new job system, isn’t it? Just sayin’. (Eaaasy, I’ll be posting about it on the forums soon enough.)

Thanks I missed this bit of info before.
