It depends on the leve and the location and you, really. Some leves are just harder than others. I'm sure there will be some folks popping by to tell you that they solo'd all their r40's easily at r34. But as for me, I found that I could solo most r40 leve mobs around r37-38 (but not anything with mongrels or zombies, those are really hard!) as a mage.

In my experience, if you are doing your leves solo at a low-ish rank, the camp you choose makes a big difference. Camp Broken Water may have the "best" r40 leves, but they mostly involve mongrels (see above, lol), not to mention that for many leves you have to deal with aggro mobs galore which can make it really hard. Camp Nine Ivies and Treespeak have slightly less aggro to deal with, and IMHO Camp Bald Knoll and Halatali were the "safest" spots to do R40's at. Camp Iron Lake is probably low aggro too but I didn't do many leves there so I'm not sure.

Though are you sure you don't mean Camp Nine Ivies? 'Cause I don't recall aggro being an issue on the way to Treespeak, assuming you're coming from the direction of Camp Emerald Moss.

I've been soloing then since R35 but there's a few you have a lot of trouble with because normal mobs will aggro etc...

I'll second Halatali as a safe place to start on the r40 leves. Broken Water can be as good as it likes, but dodging diremites began to wear pretty quickly for me. Of course you could always wait for a big behest group to sweep up some the aggro for you but that's probably pretty unreliable!

Incidentally, 'Dodging Diremites' sounds like the name of a leve to me...I wonder if there's a job for naming levequests.

I've soloed all those around Ul'dah since THM32 (unlocked them thanks to Weaver33....)

They are pretty hard at 32, mind you :P

I have soloed some of it as R33 Con, Mrd and Pug. Surprisingly, I never have any problems dealing with Peistes, Toads and Efts. As long as you have Paralyna, Cure II, Regen and you are fine. The hardest part was usually how to pull them away from group aggros and where to fight them.

Mongrels and Zombies are the hardest. I can finally solo them at R36 with luck because they always come in a pair. Some of the Cockatrice leve( All cracked up) and Jelly fish leve did too much damages very hard to my R34 class.

I have also soloed the R40 faction leves (The 2 leves that you fought against 8 Amaljaas and 8 Ixals)as R34 Con, Mrd and Pug with ease.

As for getting to the camp Treespeak. You biggest problems are the Birds and Roslings. Efts are slow and won't really chase and attacking you unless you are really slow and sucks. Birds have very very narrow eye sight and you can literally ran pass them at the side with a 5 ft distance. Never run directly into them and never stop running. Protect, stoneskin and regen are your friend.

They have made Bald Knoll harder to move around by planting a herd of Toxic Toads to the west of the Knoll and a group of Raiders/Pirates just to the east of the area. Have to be observent getting to your levee quest mobs now. Does look like they lowered the Buzzards though to compensate.

I've done Dunesfolk at 35 (before I got a static group) using Brutal Swing and Brandish II on the hounds, but it was hairy on Marauder -due to Acc issues- and I needed more than a little luck - plus time becomes a factor due to the length it can take.

I'd be interested in trying it on my Lancer with Life Surge, Pierce and Doomspike II but the thought of wasting such a beautiful leve in this way upsets me greatly!
