HQ stat gains gear/weaponFollow

I was under the impression that each rank of hq +1/2/3 increased the Star'd stat by 10%. Not sure if anyone has any solid testing on anything with HQ but maybe there are caps set or maybe weapons don't play by the same rule as armor.

I equip vintage gusarme +1 (LNC weapon) I'm rank 50 so I get the full stat gain. Base stat listed is 161 attack. My attack with no other gear is 170. So I'm getting +9 attack for the HQ+1 or roughly 5% gain.

My question is do weapons gain 5% for hq which is different then armor or did they adjust hq stat gains across the board.

Well, i was under the impression that HQ stats didnt show themselves in the equipment menu at all.

You could see this more clearly if you equipped the NQ version of whatever it is you have. There's no diffirence in stats you get listed following that. The 10% mentioned was merely an estimation based on damage done by an NQ with higher stats versus the HQ of the current item. It came to be that a NQ weapon with roughly 10% better base stats was equal in damage to the previous HQ1.

The simple diffirence between attack listed in the equipment menu under current status, and the one listed on the weapon is simply a base value you have at all times, so you could never fall below a certain amount of power. To make a quick FFXI reference, if you were completely naked, you'd still have a few points of defense and a few points of attack regardless of not wearing anything.

Its 5% for each star, not 10%

wonder where my 10% idea came from I was pretty sure armor was 10%, maybe it was early on when we didn't have high enough gear to see the increases as easily. Also it would seem to round up:
5% of 161 => 8.05 but you gain 9
5% of 171 => 8.XX but you gain 9

Just thoughts rambling through my head at work and I dont' have ffxiv available to check the gains myself.

The gain from 1 star is a minimum of +1 in any stat it influences. (Sadly, 2 stars or 3 stars also share a minimum of +1, not +2 or +3)

Basically, a 10 defense armor +1 would become a 11 defense, giving the impression of a +10% boost per star, but the fact is, the 10 defense was actually 10.5, rounded to +11 (2 stars would be 10 * 1.1, so 11 defense, and 3 stars would become 10 * 1.15, or 12 defense)

Good for low level items, mostly rings, though, as it gives +1 defense, evasion and magic defense for a basic 1 Star ring, which is often just as good as a 3 Star ring would give...

Since they hide the durability value most people tend to forget, but HQ also get +5%/+10%/+15% more durability compare to NQ.
