Hello, I just picked up a copy a few days ago and I wanted to say hi =D
I am a little confused so far on servers. I looked around the forums and found out (not entirely sure) but the UK, JP, and NA servers are connected?
Is there any server that is populated towards the JP but has a good population of NA users too? *currently learning Japanese* Hoping I can try to communicate with them... and get somewhere... I hope >_>;
I was also wondering about classes too, I know there is a physical level and a class level but... If I was to make a gladiator, am I allowed to switch to a conjuror? Or would I have to make a new character under the Hand of Disciples?

Er... I was also wondering what class would be best to start off for beginners x_x; The closest mmo I have played recent was Everquest and that was... 6 years ago

Thank you and hope to get along with everyone =)

Looking around it doesn't seem races have much impact on class choice..? o_o;

Welcome to the game!

Shameless plug for the ZAM New Player's Guide

All servers serve the NA, EU, and JP population. As to which has the most of a certain one, that's really all speculation.

You can switch to any class you like.

For beginners, I would pick any Disciple of War or Magic class.

Race doesn't have nearly the impact on class in this game as it does in other MMOs.

Welcome to Eorzea.

Any time you change weapons, you switch class to the 'required' class for that weapon. Swords for gladiators, staves for Conjurers. So, if at any time you get bored of hitting things over the head with an axe, you can try cooking them with fireballs instead!

My first recommendation to you is that once you get on a server, ask around for a linkshell. This can be a very lonely game if you don't make the effort to join with comrades, but once you do you'll enjoy it all the more. Physical levels give you distriubutable statistic points. Class ranks give you new abilities and increase the cap on your stats, making you stronger. Rank is also used to judge how difficult enemies will be to fight.

There are a lot of changes to the game upcoming, so keep an eye out on the forums for updates. Nice to see new faces!

Selbina and Mysidia have a very, very strong JP presence, as well as competitive NA/EU players.

If you can understand a good amount of conversational Japanese and slang, you should be alright with finding groups, etc.

I am getting better at understanding them, but I guess I should wait until I enter a server and find out if I can or not o_o;
