Should I start now or wait for ps3 launch.Follow

Hi I'm a retired FFXI player who stayed away from FFXIV during launch due to reviews and player complaints'. I hope I'm posting this in the right area.

I've been following the game a bit and SE has seemed to become vocal (HOLY ****!!!!) on ways that they are going to improve the game. I have a PC strong enough to run the game quite well but I'm thinking of waiting until a few problems are fixed. I understand that they story they have now is good, yet scarce, and they are working on adding content (everyone said) should have been up at launch. I also understand that nobody has had to pay fees for the game yet (nice....). I just wanted to check a few rumors I've heard before making the jump in. Again all of this is just stuff I've heard from boards and buddies, If it's wrong feel free to call me out on it. ;)

1. They will be changing up the battle system. -With all the talk about adding auto attack and changing other parts of the combat system would it be better for me to wait until after they changed it so I don't start learning how to play one way then have a bad taste in my mouth because I have to potentially relearn my play style.

2. They might be adding male Miqo'te and female Roegadyn. -This is going to sound very vain...well it is very vain so whatever. I would like to play as a MALE Miqo'te, I know they talked about making the npc models but what are the chances that it will be added as a playable race/gender? (Yes I know they have bigger fish to fry now but I'd just like to know what everyone thinks the chances of that are.)

3. Do I still get to work my *** off for the lore? -I loved FFXI's lore. **** I Quit because I beat all the main stories, RotZ, CoP, ToAH and WotG. The fact that you had to work you *** of to get that tasty lore was awesome! From what I've heard it's just lacking in the drill instructor attitude. You know... "Get to level 10 to go to the dunes and kill some crabs, get to level 20 to go to Q Island and kill more crabs, great now your strong enough to handle some of the main missions and get a taste of the awesome story. What's that? You want more? Well go a level off mandys in the jungle now!!!!"

Sorry if I seem to compare qualities a bit, I'm just using FFXI as a refrence point.

PS3 launch delayed indefinitely... but for good reason. I'd personally try to pick it up now if your computer can manage the benchmark. See if the game keeps you hooked for a few weeks. Going to really suck if you wait for the ps3 version and realize you don't like the game.

You can buy the game cheap and play for free.
I'd say start playing now. Learn the controls, find your way round, get a head start while it's easy and not so many new players all trying to claim the same low mobs.
If you want to be in with the new players, you can always leave a few jobs unplayed.
Do some crafting to be able to repair your own gear, which will help enourmously. Maybe level miner and botanist first and store up materials you will need to craft, or can sell to the PS3 crowd.
And you'll build up a bit of cash while it's still easy to come by.

Can either get it now while it's not very good and build your character up for free (although they may make leveling a lot easier and gil a lot easier to obtain at ps3), this is good as long as you won't be put off by the state of the current game. For me and many of my friends this is not possible, the current state of the game ruined it completely for us.

Wait till PS3 which could be a long time but by that then it should be quite a bit better and as I said you won't ruin it for yourself playing it while it's bad.

Also it's best if you try to not compare it to FFXI at all, that will set you up for dissapointment right away.

i'd say wait for the ps3 launch SE clearly want the game to do well and the ps3 or a console launch is pretty much the only way there going to recoup the players or atleast entice non pc players to try the game, otherwise the only returners will the be the die hard players since the game got such a negitive from the pc side alot wont return no matter the games improvement

also theres the whole 'its current state could put u off it'

I would wait. There are many improvements to the game that need to take place. Hence the fact they still don't when they are releasing the game for PS3.

Fact #1 Yoshi or whoever said that they wouldn't start charging for the game until it was "fun." And they aren't charging... so... you figure it out.

I played FFXI and I was completely let down by this game like most. So if you can wait to play, I would so you get the full experience, not this shattered version of FFXIV. It's a sad place on most servers.

Just my opinion though. Not being negative, just giving you some advice.

I think you should try it now, as it is free to play. Probably you wouldn't mind paying but meanwhile you see how the game works.
What I really don't appreciate is the so many crafting classes. I think they should merge a few in the future. Weaver with leatherworker, and maybe goldsmith with miner or blacksmith with armorer. It's just an idea based on the fact they are similar and that crafting is the same boring command called Synthesis. (I really don't understand when you have to wait or use rapid synth.. it's all random to me, which sucks)

The only fun I had was with the War classes. I really like them, but if I don't want to spend gil when repairing/ making new gear, I have to concentrate on the Land / Hand classes. It's a big working game :P

There's no more crafting or gathering activities in this game than any other MMO out there right now. They just hyped them more in this game, so instead of expecting the same old standard boring MMO craft grind we all got delusions of grandeur about them actually letting us group craft an airship.

If they do anything to minimize crafting/gathering it would be to stop classifying them as full classes like Gladiator or Conjurer. Otherwise they need to give up some of the cool things they teased us with.

I've been telling my friends to wait as long as possible before trying it out or coming back. The longer you wait, the more refinements will be made and content added. I'm having fun playing the game now, and we'd all obviously love to have more folks around to play with. But I'd prefer that you stick around for the long haul, and I imagine the best way to do that would be to have you play the best game possible. I think the longer you wait, the better the game is going to get.

Regardless, hope to see you in the game eventually. :)

I would have to disagree with most of the respondents so far in this thread.

I have just come back from a 6 month absence (to the day) because the curiosity surrounding the gradual changes that were implemented over the period I was absent also finally got the best of me. So I reluctantly decided to revisit FFXIV and have a poke around…

I started off by trawling through all of the updates that have occurred since launch. After reading the multitude of official Patch Notes and pages upon pages of discussion both on Alla and the Lodestone, it left me feeling so out of the loop and overwhelmed! I now have a pang of regret for leaving and missing out on the ‘teething’ stages of the games launch period. There is just so much to catch up on; it’s bound to keep you busy for months yet! BUT it dosen't feel like work, each Patch Notes feels like unwrapping another Christmas present! Oodles of goodies and tidbits that spark your imagination and made me appreciate how much the Dev. team have really accomplished in 6 months. Sure there is still a lack of endgame and missions, but if you join now, by the time you have hit your stride all that content will be no doubt arriving.

So much has changed I’m amazed. Yes – from the typical responses here “Keep away as long as you can etc”, it may be hard to see the progress from within the game if you have remained playing since launch. But for the returnees – it’s a whole new game and I couldn’t be happier that I re-joined now and decided against waiting to the PS3 release!

So tl;dr – get back in ASAP – you won’t regret it! I promise.
