So I played FFXIV right upon release, but like most, I was a little dissatisfied with a few things. The highest I ever got was rank 14 THM.. but leveling at that point was so slow(along with the battle system) I couldn't bear it. Also, I LOVED playing a WHM, so not having a true healer in the game really turned me off. I however, LOVED the crafting system. But truthfully, I never gave it a chance. All my friends left and my husband wouldn't even buy the game. I suppose I was lonely. It's NOT that I didn't have enough patience... I mean, I played FFXI for years, even before they had the Level Sync system in place. :)

But now I have checked out the updates, logged in a few times and already 'tested' some low level characters and am REALLY excited to come back.. Oh.. and the atmosphere... <3

My question is, do you think it's too late for me to come back if I really dedicate some time to this game? I don't need my hand held. I enjoy learning things through experience. I just want people to talk to.. or hang around with. I see a lot of the already players that are already at max level on some jobs, so would there even be players leveling in the lower level zones anymore? Do you think its really hard to get into an LS these days? Is everyone pretty welcoming to new players? I haven't chosen a server, nor even a Race, hah (I'm very indecisive here). I would really enjoy playing an Archer (and yes I know arrows can be expensive, but I do enjoy the crafting), or even trying a THM/CON again.

Anyhoo, let me know your thoughts.. :) Thanks in advance ^^;

Nobody's going to notice you weren't online before. The playerbase is that small and that disconnected.

There's no reason for the community to be divisive without high-level content to compare internet penises, so the only reason you wouldn't be able to get into any ol' LS would be because:

a) you are a gigantic RP friend who makes everybody uncomfortable
b) people make you "apply" to their LSs on principle, and they don't want lowbies cramping their style because R50 and a pirate hat is so elite and you have neither

There will always b Linkshells that are more elitist than others but you should be able to find a LS which focuses more on the social aspect of the game. You would be better is finding a server with a healthy population and then a Linkshell that best suits what you are looking for.

In regards to rank disparity you shouldnt really pay much attention to it as 80% of the people who has a r50 will most probablly working on getting anotehr one up. This causes the population to be spread out enough specially when it comes to 30+

And don't feel bad about the previous answer, trolls will be trolls.

Hope you enjoy the game and have fun.

There are plenty of LS I know and am a part of on the Karnak server that are happy to take on new players. Most notably, the Aeons ran by Weffrey Pencroff & Jase Jett. If you're interested in joining them, post a reply to their thread on the Karnak Forum and I'm sure they'll work to get you in ^^

I started playing it 3 days ago after hating the beta. Nothing in the beta made me want to play it, it was terrible.

I am now actually loving it. I am in a great LS, who are helping me out and getting me on track, im levelling nicely and being shown some good tips to get fast skill points and exp. The crafting is monumentally fun and loving every craft I make, and the world is slowly starting to make sense.

I am still horribly confused and lost, but things are slowly clicking into place, and at the moment I am typing this from work which shows all im doing is browsing the forums, so clearly im into it now.

I would recommend picking it up again, as it is currently F2P and you can buy it for like £3 off amazon.co.uk (really you can!). You are set to lose nothing from trying it out, and you never know, you might find, like me, that it starts to push all the right buttons.

Good luck and hope you enjoy it if you decide to try it out!

Thanks for everyone's great responses :) I was a little taken aback by the first one, so it was good to see many welcoming ones to follow.

I already have my account ready to go, so now I just need to decide what server :)

If you want my opinion, use this free time to get your jobs to 50, so when it does become paid again, you are ahead of the curve, even if you quit in the meantime, when you return to a better functioning game, you are ready to jump in and hit the next level cap quickly.

Also I am unsure who is rating down all my posts, but it seems everything I post hits default fast :( - Not sure what I am doing wrong, but I apologise if it is something I am missing.

If your overall level is Default then all your posts will be default as well i think.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't give 2 tosses about my rating karma, it is the fact that when a post is default, most people cannot read it, which bothers me as I put alot of thought into my posts. Couldn't care less about karma.

good to see people coming back and liking what they find. Those that have played through all the small changes may have missed the overall change by concentrating on each individual change... if only there was a neat way of putting that in a catchy phrase. Hmmm.

ps. Wutai is nice ;D

Wutai is where I planned to go all along. I'm sure one day I'll be on it also.... If it ever comes out for PS3.
My point? Don't worry too much about low level content and people to do it with, there "should" always be someone else just getting started.

To the OP: Please feel free to ignore the post quoted above. If you are looking to come back; now is a great time. They have made several improvements to all aspects of the game since the CE release and they are now even expanding content (albeit at a pace not to most people's liking). As far as finding a Linkshell goes, I would not worry about that there are plenty of people in game that are excited to see new faces and are more than willing to help these new people out. If you are still searching for a server then I would suggest Melmond. It is a medium population server with a majority of English speakers (I only mention this because I have heard that several servers are populated by a majority of Japanese players), and most people that I have met are very friendly. Furthermore if you are looking for a linkshell; Tantalus is a big friendly shell that welcomes and helps new players along. Unfortunately, in response to the quote above, you do need to apply, but I assure you that this is merely a formality for I have never seen an applicant denied. To wrap things up I would like to say that I personally hope you do come back and become a welcome addition to the FFXIV community.

£3? Why on earth is it so cheap in the UK? If all your games are that cheap I'm moving! =p

No idea, it was up for £6 when I bought it last week, and is now £3, so technically I got ripped off lol. Few more hours played, loving it still, and have just poking things with my lance....r.

I hope you enjoy both game and the comunity you find to play it with.. having a nice time is what we all want from a game.

In regards to the Karma system, to my best knowledge the settings do allow ppl (like myself) to auto ignore some posts but these are Sub-Default ones, not default.

I too have the desire of playing a new FF title, but IMHO the current game is still a work in progress. Your best best is to explore all the player feedback in all the various fan forums, the official FFXIV forum and pick up an inexpensive copy of the game to try it out for free during the redevelopment of the game.

My advice is to uninstall and wait for the PS3 release. I've been having a blast playing games that are actually enjoyable instead of pulling out my hair and gnashing my teeth trying to love a game that should require no effort to love. I wish Naoki Yoshida and the dev team the best, but I won't be back until the game is considered enjoyable by those other than the white knight/fanboy *****.

THM24, ALC14 and more besides, got a nice gearset and having an absolute riot with the LS. Really enjoying this game and it's steadily eating my free time up.

I have been converted. :P

i recomend coming back and giving the game a try. some of the things i quit over still havent been changed much but mostly the game is much better than it was. me and my friends have been having fun playing and trying out the NM's scattered about.

as for pople being friendly to new people, i would say yes. when i started again with my friends i met some cool people and answered alot of questions we had. me and the people i roll with invite new people to our ls and try and show them the ropes and help them rank up. so ya don't hesitate to ask people things and talk to them and you will find everyone is pretty chill (except for that one douche who aoealltheyellowmobs. you will understand what that means soon enough).

People who like the game = white knight/fanboy @#%^s

therefore you wont be back until the game is liked by people who don't like the game.... you might be in for a wait or perhaps you could be a little more specific about what you'd like to see in game.

White Knight's and Fanboys aside, I am really enjoying it. I think that once you realise you aren't paying for anything at the moment, and that there really is a good chunk of content to get stuck into for a newish player at the moment, you can really have fun. I know I have been having a blast.

I think thats the problem, although any new player to the game now should have enough to do, but a lot of people have exhausted everything having played since launch, I think theres no way SE can keep these people happy whatever they do.
