Strange Connection Problems...Follow

Only on my laptop, I am having problems logging in. It goes slow through the log in screen, and has brief freeze-like pauses. Sometimes it will let me in, but I have the Red "Refresh connection" symbol next to my name. I can't really do anything but I am technically connected. Hitting W will send me running for like 3 minutes. On my desktop, it doesn't do this, and it used to work fine on my laptop. The server will time out after awhile, and often will before I even log in.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? I'm going to post a youtube video later documenting what it happening and compare it to my desktop performance, but I just want to see if anyone recognizes the symptoms as a problem they may have had.

Did you port forward on your PC as many of us have done for the game updates? If so it could be causing issues on your laptop depending on the range you PF'd. The reason it could be now and not before if maybe your PC wasn't on while you used your laptop...

Other thing is to run a security suite. Things like this don't just pop up... No new driver installations or anything right?

I don't even know how to begin to understand what that means. Let me google that. >_>

The only thing I've done is update FFXIV and windows had some updates, but my desktop had the SAME updates.

We'll pretend you didn't Port Forward...

No new driver installations or Windows updates on the laptop? And by security suite I meant Antivirus and Spam cleaner (like Norton, AVG, Ad-Aware, etc...)

Yeah, I use Avira and Malwarebytes on a pretty normal basis. It never detects anything. I re-installed FFXIV too.

I will kick myself for asking this, but maybe SE can help me trouble shoot this? I really wish I could show the video now, it's super bizzare.

That's the link to a video with the problem I'm having. It shows how it tries to connect on my laptop vs. my desktop.

In my eyes it could be several things, but first of all, could you please list your laptop specs? although your graphics card may be better in your laptop your processor may not be and I know FFXIV needs at least a dual core to run acceptably at least in my experience.

The other things i'm thinking of:

Display Drivers

Chipset Drivers

Malware Issue

I know you've scanned, but did you choose quick or deep (malwarebytes) and is it updated?

I would recommend completely uninstalling your display drivers and downloading the most recent from official website or since it's a laptop from your manufacturers site and while you;re at it grab all updated drivers if available.

To me it doesn't seem like a connection issue but rather a performance one from what I can see.

I copied that out of system information in the FFXIV app. I guess I can try updating my driver software but sadly, Lenovo doesn't have great support. Uninstalling driver software isn't gonna make my pc freak out right? Also, I did the full scan with malwarebytes.

If you don't feel comfortable messing with your drivers then I suggest you don't attempt it, although it really is nothing to be nervous about, you would just fully uninstall them from control panel and then install something like the modified Omega drivers since they will work on mobile chipsets:

Your processor is also a bit weak it seems, were you ever able to play the game well on the laptop?

Yeah, it worked on all the standard graphic settings. I updated all of my drivers through the amd support site, but still no improvement ... I'm so confused.

EDIT: Well i get into the game a lot easier now, but it's still really slow. Oh well, I guess I will just have to deal with it. Thanks for all the help! :D

I seem to be having connection issues at the moment also, but its m S and R dropping constantly. So I am seeing commands geting ran later.

It drops to yellow a lot then it will flicker to red.

Any suggestions to what this could be caused by?

This could be a lot of things. If your connection speed is poor, this could happen. If you are running graphics that are too strong for your computer, then your connection will definitely suffer. Try it with no open processes besides FFXIV (including Aero if using windows 7.) If your connection is still suffering, you might wanna try your system at someone else's house to see if your internet connection is suffering.
