Played Rift a few hours. Don't like it much. The game feels flat; the NPCs don't even look at you while giving important quests, just a window pups up tells you what to do and what the rewards are. After that, follow the indicator on the map to kill a few mobs and you are done. Go follow the indicator again to see another poker face NPC again for the next step… not much involvements and exploring. To me, Rift feels more like a RTS than RPG. FF always gives you good CS and interesting music, besides, the attentions to details are second to none (costume, emotion…etc), which really make me feel like I am part of the fantasy world. Now only if XIV crash less...I really like the XIV.
How did your begining experience go with FFXIV? Hard to find NPCs, no map locations, no idea how to do a quest, no instuctions on how to do simple things in the game (did you forget the player base had to ask for those things?). How does "window pops up and tells you what to do and what the rewards are" Different than FFXI's quests? Oh right the fact you have to run the same quest in FFXIV 20-30 times to level up and not in Rift. Do FFXIV's NPCs not look blank? Last time I looked the NPCs in the AG all look like they have a poker face.
Your mention of FFXIV giving good CS, you must be talking about all that text you have to read during cut scenes, without voice overs. I love the font too.
I find your argument a little hard to believe is all... but I do believe you when you talk about the crashes, nothing like resetting your market ward character like a 100 times...
But if you are right, if you are looking for music and exploring, nothing beats FFXI... you have the whole sever to yourself.
It's ok if you don't like Rift but your explaination of why seems a bit forced.
I do think it is in poor taste for Zam to advertise Rift in other game forum groups... but hey can you blame them? SE isn't doing any advertising. Money rules, always.
