FF14 recall?Follow

#1 May 12 2011 at 10:26 PM Rating: Good
I have the sad job of working at walmart. Yes it sucks, but it pays the bills and gets me through college. Anyways, I noticed today that all our copies of FF14 have been recalled. I couldn't get any information as to why though. Anyone happen to have any extra info?

I don't know. Google doesn't have anything on it, so it may be just Walmart or possibly even just your store? If it was more widespread I assume I could find some info about it on google.
WoW -- Zaia -- Dragonmaw -- Mage 80 BABY! Alchemy 450
Also... Hunter 62, Rogue 52, Warrior 66, Warlock 43, Death Knight 70, Shaman Who Cares? ;)

FFXI -- Caia -- Retired/Deleted -- Blm 75, Alchemy 97
Pandimonium server - Rank 10 - Bastok

Zaela Rdm -- 35, Alchemy 45 -- Forced into retirement because I didn't have the right kind of credit card. Hope it was worth 18 bucks a month, SE.

I know my local Wal-Mart never even carried FFXI (as far back as I can remember), it's a matter of local demand I believe. If a few copies sit on the shelf long enough then they will send them back (to their distribution center) to be sent somewhere with more demand.
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.

Yeah, I didn't think it was anything serious, though I am wondering just how widespread it actually is.

i bought my first copie of ffxi from a wallmart along with chains of promathia when it was just released.

i was so stoked to play it because the final fantasy series was my favorite games to play.

as for ffxiv ive seen it in my walmart. which is odd though because the EBgames in my area doesnt carry it anymore.

I have not heard anything about it. Local gamestop, target, and walmart still have it in stock, . . . the gamestop still has some new not used collector edition copies.

While stores like walmart and target may ship the games to places where the demand is higher (I have no clue), I know for a fact that gamestop does not.

You know for a fact? Do you work for Gamestop? I was store manager of a Gamestop up until July 2006 and we were constantly doing store to store transfers. We'd get a packing list through our computer system telling us which titles and how many of each and which store they went to. Then we'd box them up, and we had a UPS program on the office computer to print out shipping labels and send it out with UPS the next morning. Granted, the majority of it was balancing our used inventory among stores, it did also include new pc software as well. I guarantee if I had 20 copies sitting in the back room not selling and another store on the other side of town was constantly selling out eventually I would get an order to send them over there in the system.

Granted it has been nearly 5 years since I worked there I'm sure things have changed but I would think if they were balancing product back then they still would be.

No I don't work there, thats what I was told by the manager. Though from what you say its just the preference of the individual store.

This is what I was told,
"We do not do game transfers due to shipping costs"

On games that simply won't sell they sometimes recall unsold ones with a deal with the companies to buy them back.

I saw FFXIV last month at a Walmart--it was selling for $50!

SE doesn't seem to be shipping any more copies out (and retailers probably aren't demanding them), so from time to time copies of FFXIV can be hard to find. Gamestop, AFAIK, only sells it online, and they've been out of on-line copies for a while.

:begins raising arms to start running about and screaming that the sky is falling:

Is this the end of the world event the NPC's were referring to? O_O!

Also, get it off Amazon if you can. Paid £6 for mine, and loads of people where I work have been snapping them up recently too. If a £6 game is rubbish, it's no skin off my nose, luckily for SE though, I actually love it :D

1. Could mean they're releasing a newer version including all the recent updates and an expansion with the new battle system!

2. Could mean they're f*&king it off and closing the servers, we all die and the world ends. OMG

3. Could mean your manager can't be ***** having low sale stock knocking about the backoffice so sent it back.

Me thinks no. 3

I'm guessing their on-line sales are outpacing their in-store sales so they're pulling the merchandise back for that.

I'm not sure what Walmart's return policy is, but at this point any instore sales are probably misguided attempts to find presents for friends or family members, and given FFXIV has the highest minimum specs requirements in gaming history, and given, even for people who can run it, it's wildly unpopular, I'd wager many of those well-intended gifts end up as returns or complaints.
