I have to say I lol'd when I saw this, but then I thought, they probably hid a lot of stuff in the dats to reduce the stress on servers for next patch. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another 300mb or bigger patch.

Absolutely unneeded Patch, definitely could have waited on this one and not wasted 3 hours.

There was never really any doubt that it would be minor fixes as it's a lettered patch. I'm curious to know what size it is though ...... if it's another 300+MB patch there must be some stealth inclusions in there waiting for activation - surely?

Kinda wished they would have held this off till the content patches, as this just seems a little pedantic right now. Shame, was hoping for something along the lines of a chocobo, mailbox or even an extension of the trade window.

I personally wasn't expecting much for this. Would have been nice to see some Company quests or something so we can get the ball rolling on choosing a group.

Curious so, that we have one just as large as 1.17a but with so few changes.

Incorrect if you mean targeting is fine.

Correct in a sense that what they did still probably doesn't fix all the targeting issues.

I wasn't expecting much from this patch at all honestly. I imagine that a lot of the data is groundwork for the big patch coming next month, we just can't see any of it yet.

I suppose there must be hidden things in there... there's no way a couple slight changes like we see manifest in 1.17b could come anywhere near 300+MB. Well, unless the game's coded even more strangely than I thought; but I actually don't believe that is the case this time.

Either the patch system is really horrible, or as someone stated these are patches leading upto others. Based on what's to come by the end of summer (confirmed on official forums by community rep) I would think it would be a patch between 500mb-1000mb (at the very least)

This could very well be hidden stuff ^^

I am a bit surprised that they have had to mess with the targeting so much. I would think they have people testing these things and that they would have had it figured out on their 1st or 2nd try.

Anyways, not really much going on for this patch.

Agreed, but one can think that the targeting update has to be a precursor to Auto-Attack and the Battle Changes to come.

I am totally satisfied with this patch because I am very pleased with the communication that came from SE on the changes that are coming. I don't mind waiting for what will turn out to be the best MMORPG in history!!

It's actually the first they've mentioned [dev1083]. They don't even have a post for it yet in the In Development section yet. I have honestly no idea what the notes are saying about it.

As several others have pointed out, it is unlikely that the ~300MB patch is solely going to adjusting a few targeting mechanics.

SE probably, quite wisely, has players download the scaffolding and groundwork patches now so that people like you don't have to complain about the 1.8GB, 29-hour-patch that would otherwise have to exist when they revamp massive sections of the game.

Glad to hear that but honestly a patch this size should be done in half that time.

Same, i tried countless different things from beta on and did the "Download it the way SE intended" to possibly help it out. Resorted to utorrent, and now that won't work. It's not like i didn't try and went the lazy way. I literally spent hours upon hours trying to get their patcher to work on my end. It just doesn't. But whatever i guess.

I just became very sad in the pants, thinking they actually secretly add stuff :P So much for wishful thinking. Just reinstalled, on purpose.

Files downloaded:
Folder: 2d2a390f
D2010.09.18.0000.patch 5,442 KB

Folder: 48eca647
D2010.09.19.0000.patch 433,984 KB
D2010.11.25.0002.patch 244,843 KB
D2010.12.13.0000.patch 257,141 KB
D2011.05.19.0000.patch 336,172 KB

Looks like all those last patches have just re-downloaded previous info as well, which bites nuts since at least Guildwars does incremental patches and incorporates them into the database file dynamically >.>

Oh well, :D Leveling like a mother and happily enjoining game :)

In comparison:
D2010.09.19.0000.patch 433,984 KB
D2010.11.25.0002.patch 244,843 KB
D2010.12.13.0000.patch 257,141 KB
D2011.05.19.0000.patch 336,172 KB

Major Patch 1
D2010.09.19.0000 423mb

Start of Major Patch 2
D2010.09.23.0000 6.58mb

The following patches weren't needed or not used again if you reinstalled from scratch
D2010.09.28.0000 17.9mb
D2010.10.07.0001 18.3mb
D2010.10.14.0000 18.5mb
D2010.10.22.0000 18.8mb
D2010.10.26.0000 18.8mb

Rest of Major Patch 2
D2010.11.25.0002 239mb

Start of Patch 3
D2010.11.30.0000 6.6mb
Corrected Part used in final part of Patch 3
D2010.12.06.0000 6.82mb

Final part of Patch 3
D2010.12.13.0000 251mb

All of the last ones here are all part of the same "Patch 4" since we haven't reset the timer to start again (as per the only 4 files I downloaded on fresh install)
D2010.12.21.0000 7.2mb
D2011.01.18.0000 9.5mb
D2011.02.01.0000 11mb
D2011.02.10.0000 11mb
D2011.03.01.0000 73mb
D2011.03.24.0000 103mb
D2011.03.30.0000 103mb
D2011.04.13.0000 325mb
D2011.04.21.0000 327mb
D2011.05.19.0000 328mb

If it keeps up like this, every dam patch will get bigger and bigger, taking longer to download and the patch system is horribly unorganized beyond what I thought it was before :(

I guess they want the patch sizes to be EPIC, but really, this last set of updates totaling 336mb should have been as follows:
D2010.12.21.0000 7.2mb
D2011.01.18.0000 2mb
D2011.02.01.0000 1.5mb
D2011.02.10.0000 1mb
D2011.03.01.0000 58mb
D2011.03.24.0000 30mb
D2011.03.30.0000 1mb
D2011.04.13.0000 122mb
D2011.04.21.0000 2mb
D2011.05.19.0000 1mb

much easier to download :(

I'm having trouble downloading via the patcher and utorrent. Unfortunately my router doesn't have ports above 45000. Is there anything I can do to make this go faster? Been downloading for over 12 hours. All I can do is upload for the most part. :(

Now i completely agree this SHOULD take care of it and i wish by doing so would at least let me d/l a patch in 30 min. But it just doesn't work for me and many other people. I am not a networking guy and really do not understand everything but i do know how to open ports and even tried running (against better judgement) in DMZ mode.

If someone can give me anything else to try to get a 300mb patch to download in under 4 1/2 hours from SE please share! I want to say maybe its my ISP but would i be able to download everything else at 700 kb/s if it was? If Utorrent is not an option then i will try anything. God knows ive spent hours already trying to get their patcher to work better on my end...

Don't get excited about any patches with a letter at the end, if it had anything to be excited about it'd be a version update with a new number.

This is what I did and it worked amazing. Forwarding/openning ports did absolutely nothing for me. The second I clicked ON for DMZ mode my remote connections went from 0 to around 56 and my DL went from over 4hours(already was 4 hours in), down to 13 minutes.

That's pretty rude to say. If someone has to wait 4-24 hours for a 300mb patch then there is nothing wrong with them complaining. Even if they don't have their stuff set up correctly to do it faster, not everyone is that tech savy. It's a little ridiculous to have to leave your computer on overnight just to DL a tiny patch.

Your an idiot. Did you hear me say anything like "OMG I CANT PLAY THE GAME!!!" Has nothing to do with logging into the game ffs. Its the fact in order to update this game i need to leave my computer on half the night for it to update. And also i really want this game to succeed but with issues like these it will just push more and more people away. I dont care if its just 1% of the people that really have a "legit" problem with the patcher where the person HAS opened all ports etc......

edit: yeah i dont get it, after all the messing around with things i figured putting it in DMZ mode would do the trick as well. Oh wells.
