hello all,

I am a brand new player. highest class is pug rank 15 on selbina server.

from the information I've gathered thus far, it seems like im supposed to do the main storyline quests, do leves every 36 hours with some behest in between. I've learned that I can join a class guild at lvl 20.

to summarize, I log on every 36 hours...grab my 16 leves (regional and local..8 of each) kill a few mobs on the way to the level location. do the leves and try to get in a few behests while im there. is this what im supposed to be doing? I feel like I am missing something. are there no experience parties like there used to be in XI? after leves, the mobs seem too spread out and award too little SP to progress with.

so any hints/tips/pointers for me?

I would say to do what you like, dont follow other people's ideas just because they might be the best SP/time and such.

SP parties dont start at all till your late 20s, early 30s and you wont seem them that oftern till early to mid 40s.

Personally i feel that the best thing you can do to enjoy this game is to find a nice bunch of people to play it with, you can join in for leves, behest, missions and such.

sounds like a plan. now all I have to do is find responsive players on selbina.
do leves automatically get shared when in a group and initiating them at the crystal?
also if me and the other players have all different leves, can We effectively do 16 leves?

When you activate a lev in a party, they do get shared with others in the party. It is shared in a way that you all get to participate and complete the objectives. If for example, multiple people have the same lev, you can lev link them to gain a bonus to sp/exp when killing the lev mobs. To lev link, have 1 person activate the lev in the normal fashion. Have each additional player click the aetheryte and choose the "lev link" option. This will then allow players to complete the lev at the same time. You could, if you choose to, activate one then finish it, then have another player activate theirs. You'll just end up doing the same lev twice. Lev linking allows multiple players to complete the same lev in the same 30 minutes. It saves loads of time. The person/people who activate/link the lev will receive the reward quoted when accepting the lev. Those who didn't will receive a 1 or 2k for tagging along.

If you and other players have different levs, I suggest you link the ones you have in common and then do each of the others together as a party. This way you get the sp you wouldn't otherwise get from levs that aren't in your journal. For example, I have 1 lev and another friend has a different one. I could do my 1 lev by myself and get the sp for it, or I could team up and do my lev (basically the same sp amount gained) and then also get the sp for helping my friend out with his. We both basically get sp for doing 2 levs instead of just the 1 that is in each of our journals.

I apologize if this is very long winded. I just wanted to make sure I explained it fully. You can look at the adventurer's guide in game, or hit me up with other questions. My best advice for you in this game is to find yourself an active linkshell to join. You'll not only find others who enjoy playing the game, but also a group of people who will be willing to party up and help along the way. Happy adventuring!

Welcome to the reason barely anyone sticks around--there's next to nothing to do and what there is to do is highly undesirable.

I'm glad I could help. Unfortunately Axel is right. Levs might be fun at the beginning, but once your in the 40's, it gets to be quite repetitive. It's much nicer doing it in parties that way you have people to talk to while you do the long grind. It all depends on if you want to do things efficiently and do the same levs over and over again for booku amounts of sp or change it up every 36 hours and move to a different city each time. While going the efficient route, there have been nights I'd make around 110-120k in 3 hours. It makes leveling so easy and fast but sooo boring.
