Hey guys i was wondering if you could give me a little bit of a help, i purchased FFXIV yesterday evening at my local JB HI FI in Melbourne(Australia). I was sure that there was no subscription fee's at this current time or no character fees that is the reason why i purchased it. So i added a service to my Beta account and was happy that i could begin play untill..... when i logged in, it said i needed to make a character service on there website so im thinking, wow this is easy enough. To find that i need to make a click and buy account (Crystra is not available in Australia) just to start playing( WTF THERES NO SUBSCRIPTION FEES). So i contacted Square Enix via there online chat and got a response instantly he said that Click and Buy is our currently billing system... WTF? i dont needa pay any bills at the moment, he would not make a character service for me... so now what do i do?
I dont own a credit card as i just turned 18, in Australia click and buy isnt well known so I dont know anyone that already has an account, and my parents are very strictly against placing credit card details/ online banking on the internet.
What can i do?

Hypothetically if i was able to get into a possession of a credit card and made a click and buy account, then made a character service, then unlinked click and buy and deleted my click and buy account would my character still work?

Well..... Thanks for any advice.... sigh...

You have to sign up as if there is a subscription service but until further notice they will not charge for playing the game.

Do they have pre-paid credit cards in Australia? You could use that, if they do.

It's not really stupid, per say. The payment system was in as part of the original game, meaning the game was built from the ground up to be linked to their payment system. They had no intentions originally of allowing the game to be played for free. Similarly, they've most likely been too busy recently to deactivate a system that most likely would not only be difficult to decouple from the game, but also serves as, at most, an irritant.

man why couldnt they just use paypal, i know that they use prepaid cards, if i was to cancel my service would my serial key reactivate then? because if it did i would just say i was in the USA and buy an ultimate game card for crystra i wish i found this out earlier

O.K here's the problem: You bought from local JB Hi-fi, your copy is U.K version actually and chances are you won't get around saying your registered code is from US. I'm also from Australia so I know. However if you register it as UK you should be able to charge Crysta using UGC, should be. Unfortunately, you already registered your key, you can't cancel service and reactivate it.

All in all, get a Pre-Paid credit card like Woolworth's and use Click n Buy.

You don't need crysta to play online. I just went to the area where you subscribe. Add your game FFXIV and add your subscription. But I did use my debit card though. After that it went through and I was able to log into ffxiv and create a character.

I did think it was a bit of a hassle to set up though. My god, I mean I'm pretty computer saavy and I had problems trying to set up an account. I can't imagine people who have no idea and trying to wade through the terrible menu system for subscribing on SE's website

It's a subscription based MMO they are currently not charging for, they could start charging whenever they wanted to. As a subscription based game you have to have a payment system setup before they will let you play, even if they refuse to charge you yet.

ok, is anyone 100% certain that either
www.only1gift.com.au << them cards or
https://www.everydaymoney.com.au/edm/wps/portal/money/!ut/p/b1/04_SjzQ1NTWwtDC2NNCP0I_KSyzLTE8syczPS8wB8aPM4t0NzZ1MXExNDPwtLdwMPEN9DIPdjRwNLEIN9INT8_RzoxwVAeenMIc!/ <<<<< them cards will work

ive used the only1 cards before and know they have a CVC number, although on the click and buy website if i create an account what name do i place it under? Giftcard Holder :P? lol i just dont want them to block the account then have the problem in trying to get it disabled

SEL Agent Cédric: Thanks! Please can you elaborate what your problem is?
Customer: Ok, all i want to to create 1 character service without th use of a credit card
Customer: is this possible
Customer: can you create me one character service
SEL Agent Cédric: We can't create that for you
SEL Agent Cédric: You need to register a payment method
SEL Agent Cédric: and you can see among the different services which one will suit you better
Customer: and in australia click and buy is the ONLY option
Customer: because that is all that is appearin
SEL Agent Cédric: You live in Australia
SEL Agent Cédric: but registered a EU account?
Customer: yes
Customer: where should i have registered?
Customer: i went to a local retailer and in the case it directed me to the eu website
SEL Agent Cédric: Do you have the Crysta option on your square enix account ?
Customer: No :'( thats what i want
SEL Agent Cédric: It means that your country is not supported by Crysta
SEL Agent Cédric: why do you want it absolutely?
Customer: Because i can use a Ultimate game card
Customer: which i can purchase easily
Customer: There availble arround every corner
SEL Agent Cédric: I understand but because of the region you are located, it won't be possible to have an alternative payment method
Customer: Ok, then so the ONLY option i have is click and buy?
Customer: is this correct
SEL Agent Cédric: Yes this is correct I am afraid
Customer: Could you pass on that it would be MUCH easier for Australian residents to use Crysta
SEL Agent Cédric: only EU is supported for Crysta
Customer: Ok, since Click and Buy is my only option, Upon creating a click and buy account
SEL Agent Cédric: the payment system is like that, it is not possible to make a modification for youself only
Customer: and then creating a character service, could i then delete/terminate my click and buy account?
Customer: Would my character still work for the time being?
SEL Agent Cédric: If you do delete your C n B account you might not be able to play anymore
SEL Agent Cédric: i would advise you not to touch anything with the payment method and simply carry on playing
Customer: So then im going to be charged the yearly fee's by click and buy?
SEL Agent Cédric: Yes, if you have more questions about the fees charged by C n B, I would advise you to contact their support centre.. Also, keep in mind that FFXIV is currently free of charges, so you can basically play for free
SEL Agent Cédric: Is there anything else I can help you with today ?
Customer: Yes i know its free to play thats why i went to purchase the game, and now im frustrated that i cant play
Customer: Yes, i'd like for you to pass on to your senior management in regards to more payment options for Australians
SEL Agent Cédric: Yes, I will spread the message for you but we can't guarantee things will change.
SEL Agent Cédric: Is there anything else I can help you with today ?
Customer: I understand that, no thanks for really nothing
SEL Agent Cédric: Thank you for visiting our SQUARE ENIX Support Chat line . Take care and have a good day!

and that was the good old chat with square

Just click "Pay with Crysta" and ignore all further options. You dont need to buy Crysta, nor will it charge anything. You have 0 Crysta, all the characters you want to make cost 0 Crysta. So the payment will go through and you can play just fine...

You're screwed i'm afraid...

So just so I get the basic gist of your problem.. You aren't able to play because you 1)don't have a credit card, 2) can't use your parents b/c they don't like their credit card info on the net, 3) can only use a credit card for payment info since its basically your only option in Australia? Wow. That's quite a conundrum. Are you able to get a credit card in your name yet? I believe I read that your 18. I don't mean to lecture, but it's a pretty good time you get one and start working on your credit. It'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone. It does suck that you HAVE to enter in payment info for a free game, but it wasn't originally supposed to be like this. I have kept my card info in their system and I have not been charged a penny. If you can convince your parents, you can put their credit card info into the CnB, and not be charged anything at all. Although, you will have to stay informed and let them know when monthly fees do finally start

1 2 3 generally correct in a nutshell I'm a uni student at the moment so i could apply fOr a credit card although my parents still play a large role in my life and ATM they will b like here take $100 for lunch for the week and I'll b like thanks :) so being like mum I'm getting a credit card Or for them to see the bill in the mail they will kinda freak and b like wtf. So I'd prefer for the moment just to use other payment options that's why I'm hopeing that visa giftcards work. But no one can really give me a deffinite answer if they work with click and buy

Also I have googled this for like ages and also sent emails to click and buy and the visa giftcard supplier and yet to get a response and I can't really call germany ATM lol

A lot of effort, considering they could start charging next month if they wanted to. If you can't afford it why build a character at all?

I'm sorry to hear that. I understand completely though. I'm a little less than a month away from graduation, and money is definitely in short supply. Especially for a university student. My parents paid my tuition all the way through school, so I was on a short leash as well. If you do decide to go by way of visa gift cards, put just enough to pay for 1 month on it and see if it works. If not, then you can use it for something else you need. If it does, then you're set for that first month of charges when it does come around.

If they decide to charge soon and I enjoy the game I'm willing to go and buy 10000000 giftcards so long as they work with click and buy. At least i finally got a reply

"Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting ClickandBuy and for your message.

As there is a wide variety of credit cards, we are not able to tell if a specific one will work with ClickandBuy.

Please try to register using the prepaid VISA you want. If our system will decline the card we do not accept this type.

Please select answer or reply when responding to this e-mail as opposed to sending a new e-mail as this will aid us in resolving your issue with more efficiency.

Yours sincerely,

ClickandBuy Service-Team"

Anyway thanks for all your responses =) imma just go and get 1 and try it i guess =) Hope to see you all in game

SE using a company for payments that can't even tell you what payment types they accept...?

If it wasn't for the fact that I've come to expect this crap from SE, I'd be thoroughly disappointed. Sadly, I'm not at all surprised.

I know Canada allows it, and I'm pretty sure USA does too (Both are probably using the same versions anyway)

The best way to start out is to level up pretty much everything to at least lvl10, including crafts. Start out with levequests at the adventurer guild. Try to pick the ones located in town or at the first camp. Take as many as you can from different jobs. Over time adventuring, you'll accumulate lots of grass and cotton bolls which will provide everything you need to take weaver to high levels. Similarly, you'll end up with lots of copper ore, which does the same thing for smiths. Have fun!
