From your experiences in the game and with other games,

On a scale of 1 - 10:
With 1 Being no community
And 10 Being a perfect community

How would you rate FFXIV's Community?

Note: Community includes in-game, forums, wiki's, etc.

Personally I would rate it a 4.

In-game: 2 (Higher if you have an active good LS, which are incredibly rare at least on my server)

Out of Game: 4

In-game is just about non-existent, hopefully it'll change once there's party oriented things to do but SE has pretty much made the need to talk to people almost void. Most people stick pretty strictly to their LS on my server at least and the few shouts are for repairs or maybe the same two people every day doing Broken Water leve shouts. Compare this to XI (or any other MMO really) where you had constant interaction with people in a party, on a mission, on a quest, through assault, and of course through shouts and helping or joining up for various things.

You can blame most of the apathy of the in-game community towards the way the game is structured away from wanting to talk to people unless you need something. I liked some of XI's community in-game, it was one of the better communities of MMOs I've played and it's sad to see it relegated to mostly forums and out-of-game venues.

I'm not sure what I would rate the community, but if I compared it to FFXI's community (only other mmo I've played so I can only base my judgement on that) I would have to say FFXI's community is better so far.

However, I have a feeling because FFXI has more stuff to do and has activities where you wouldn't be able to complete it without some help, is the reason the community was more connected in FFXI. In FFXIV there isn't enough content requiring people to team up which causes the effect that the community seems quiet and sticks mainly to the LS(s) they have. That's my guess and it's why I can't put a number yet. Maybe a few months after FFXIV starts charging assuming that will be when the game is more acceptable, then will I have a better number to place!

XIV has hamstrung what should've been a strong community. When your playerbase is more like 20k than 200k, the interest in forums and wikis is going to be severely cut as we've witnessed. And aside from the sheer amount of people playing.. The game falls short as far as ease of communication and giving us enjoyable things to do together.

I don't quite think a number does it justice.

Allow me to explain.

Normally, when you rate a community, you often do so within the context of a positive experience. If you'd ask me to rate FFXI's community, I could do so based on how well people are willing to team up and engage in the many activities the game offers, and by the numerous strategies people have developed and shared across various internet sites.

In FFXIV's case, however, its "false start" has created a different sort of community. It's more like a support group for the jobless during an unexpected recession, looking for signs of an improved economy. There's this game, and we're all playing it, and while there is fun to be had, it's not enough to keep most people amused so that even those who are amused notice and can't help but be concerned. Those in charge are taking steps to improve the fun, but no one knows if they'll be successful, and it's taking longer than anyone wants.

I think FFXIV's community is one that feels too guilty to give up just yet, but also one that is disillusioned and apprehensive. You don't see linkshell recruitment going on much anymore. Very few people talk within the game itself. And what forum discussions do exist generally pertain, in whole or in part, to what time, shape, or form this nightmare will end.

I'm using the SE conversion formula, where 10 months mean 200.000 dissatisfied customers.

In-Game: 3 or 4
Out of Game: 7 or 8

With broken linkshell functions, chat windows that make it hard to type, no easy way to see what area your party members are at or where they are if they're in the same zone (yet at the same time still punish EXP/SP gains no matter where they are, what the ****?), I can see why people prefer to keep to themselves.

On the other hand, if I have something that needs repairing, people aren't snobs in game, they usually repair quickly and it's a very helpful community in that regards. People also team up quite frequently on Behest rather than compete for mobs.

All in all, I think the playerbase is representative of the game. The game has potential to be great, I just don't know how long people are willing to wait. The playerbase has potential, but like the game needs to be improved. So I wouldn't say it's the people themselves that caused me to give it a score of 3-4. It's the game functions that made it that way.

hard to rate when the player base is so tiny at the moment.

the only thing to really do in the game that requires more than 1 person is leve linking for sp...and that is generally done with static groups within ls.

all nms can be soloed, all quests can be done solo, etc.

that said people are generally friendly and if you shout for repairs you'll get them within in a few minutes.

the main problem is there is really nothing to do with a bunch of people.

Out of game, the community (at least the zam one) seems to be made up of people that fit into 2 groups, one ranging from pessimistic (with the occasional doomsayer) to realistic, and those that are hopeful (with some boardering on delusional). Neither seems to like anything the other side says, and while I haven't seen a flame war in a while, I still see plenty of passive aggressive rate downs.

In game, my experience lately has been pretty brief in the past few months, but the games community seems to be suffering from a lack of content that is tougher than a close knit group to beat on their own. Everyone seems to have their own LSs at this point, and while thats awesome they say nothing about the game community as a whole. I know I had poor luck finding leve link groups, and I saw almost no chatter in town, thats a bad sign.

I'll give in game a 0-2 depending on the time, and maybe others have a more active server. Out of game its like a 4-5, since interesting conversations and debates do pop up ever few weeks.

I'd give it an 8 in-game only thanks to being in a quite active LS, although now when most of us are tired of leveling DoW/DoM we have people going into crafting mode (a.k.a. watching TV or reading while pressing confirm/enter button like robots) - so the LS activity has lowered.

Out of game? Hmmmmm.... I'd say it's all over the place, depending on the day and current active threads. Perhaps under 5 since the forums activity on official and fan sites seem to be dropping as well.

I expect things to pick up again, at least for a while, when we get the "saviour patch" that'll revolutionarize the battle system. Mild irony aside, I'm worried how with every patch people get more active but give up again a week or two later....

In all due fairness, it has to be rated outside the linkshell. That is like saying you live in a great community and its your momma jane and sister lula. Anyways, it gets a 0 for non-existent. You can yell out free cash come here and only the trees will rustle at you.

Yeah, for me, it's because I notice nifty new/altered mechanics or features, but then ultimately realize that no content of significance is there for me to enjoy.

I'm playing again after a 2-month hiatus, it definitely helps having RL friends who play, and can join a Skype call to get around the still somewhat cumbersome chat system.

Overall, I rate FFXIV's in-game community a 5/10. It's like the enthusiasm is there, but no one wants to initiate contact unless it involves their linkshells. Honestly, I tend to do the same thing.

People are generally helpful and open to discussion once you start talking or asking for help though, I've found.

In game has to be a 0 or 1. There is almost ZERO contact between players. The most I think I ever talked to someone in a pickup group/behest was to say hello and goodbye. Hopefully with auto-attack that will be fixed at least slightly. Out of game, depends where you are. The official forums I'd still only give a 1 or 2, because 90% of the people who post there are trolls or morons who can't even grasp the basics of the english language (on the english forums). Here, I'd say it's more like a 5 or 6. I'd go higher if not for the silent people who just jump into a thread and rate people down without even posting. You know who you are!

That's more an indicator of the worth and uselessness of gil than it is of the community's quality.

Well, whenever I talk to the repair NPC, he replies quite nicely. So I don't get your point.

Can you specify what you mean by "in-game" OP. For instance their attitude or something?

Can't really say much though as there aren't many people playing the game at the moment nor are most of them joining parties.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's not that much different than XI with the only difference being a smaller player base and people not joining parties witch doesn't leave much for social interaction.

But, if I must toss out a number I'd say 6 ½ just because.

So funny. I would have been upset long ago by this. But now, well, anyone left that can claim to be satisfied with FFXIV?

I will have to say 1 in game and a 10 out of game. I do not have an ls, so when I tried to see if anyone wanted to do leves after a behest, no response at all. Everyone dropped and either went afkmor solo their leves. Since I do not belong to an LS, I heavily rely upon Zam for help and questions, so everyone here has been awesome IMO.
