Well i was just curious is crafting using a keyboard macro against ToA or is it legitimate? On one hand it is not a third party program just an extra some of the more expensive keyboards have. But on the other it does give a person an edge as they can activate the macro to sit and craft in there place. I have had a macro capable keyboard for a very long time how every as stated i am unsure of how legal or not using the macros is. I am curious that's only real justification i have for asking.

This is my first post, but i have being playing 14 from day one and have followed the forms closely sins than.

Well any sort of automating the experience can be close to botting. Personally I would think it would be against the ToS, but this may be one of those shades of grey type things.

What would you do with the macro just hit it so it can go thru all the menus for you or hit it and afk while it synths 20 pieces of wood for ya? I am pretty macro-illiterate, other than simple equip changes and built in system macros like that.

Pretty much if you aren't sure it boils down to this: if it plays the game for you, it's against the ToS.

Ok so it's not a gray area. Don't do it. This is a copy and paste from the ToA seems i missed it last time i read through.

Activities that destroy game balance
Using third party programs or tools in FINAL FANTASY XIV is strictly prohibited since they allow users to gain an unfair advantage over other players. The use of programs or tools within FINAL FANTASY XIV that allow certain continuous actions to be performed automatically are often referred to as absentee play, which is also prohibited in FINAL FANTASY XIV. Additionally, during the course of an absentee play investigation, players may be requested to respond to or comply with a GMs instruction. Failure to do so is consider a violation and may result in disciplinary action being taken against the account.

The following activities are also prohibited in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
•Modifying, analyzing, integrating and reverse engineering game data
•Utility creation and distribution
•Exploiting SQUARE ENIX programming that does not run as intended to gain profit or damage other players

#4Lukky, Posted: Jun 06 2011 at 2:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It's definitely against the ToS, but I actually recommend it. Why? You won't get banned and it's pretty convenient to let a keyboard script run while you clean up your place or go some other productive activity.

This tells me that it's not against the ToS unless you are using that macro to AFK grind. Did you guys read it differently? If you have to manually initiate the action every time you want to use it, lets say a macro to press alt+0 for you, it couldn't be considered absentee play, and therefore is not against the ToS.

I don't know if they consider more advanced keyboards to be along the same lines as a third party program, but It seems that so long as you're sitting at the computer, hitting 1 button rather than 5 does not affect game balance, or affect the TOS. its kinda a grey area in that they won't ever come out and tell you that its ok to do it, but if you're present and starting the macro yourself every time, it seems almost impossible to detect.

Is it even possible to setup a programmable keyboard to spam multiple synths for grinding?

I've messed around with my keyboard (sidewinder x4), and i can't figure out how to setup the repeatable macros to be consistent at spamming a recipe synth over and over. It is, however, good at spamming through a set of synths for a leve, because you only need to hit the enter key over and over, as it gives you the option to repeat the last synth.

You can use a simple mouse macro.

Even with macro, the grind is still a waste of time

I wish I knew how to make a macro do this cause imma be honest against the TOS or not I would do it. I'm 35+ in 7 crafts doing it 100% legit. If I could press 1 button to do 1 or multiple synths EVEN if I had to be sitting at my computer to do it so it wouldnt technically cheating I would do it in a heart beat. Ive put my **** time in to crafting its time for some relief.

In my opinion the keyboard will still be using a third party program to create the macro and as such would fall under use of third party programs and be against ToU.

As you can see I have quite a few DoH on medium to high rank and I did them all while actually looking at the PC screen, the most absent I have been while doingit was lissening to musiv at the same time. I might seem strange to most people, I know my LS mates think I am, but I actually enjoy the crafting procedure, I usually try and grind at the highest possible recepy so I still need to use God Sent abilities and pay atention to instability on the Orb.

I just dont understand people like TPG which although they do not have fun doing it they still go through the process of grinding DoHs. As I said before, this game might not have much to do but if you don't enjoy doing something you should be looking for something else to do, be that chat to Ls embers or go in search of new chalenges.

In principle Hugus is right. It is a "third party program".
However, if the crafting system is mindless and robotic enough to be done by a program, the blame is on SE.

Wouldn't it be easy to invent a crafting process that requires 100% of your attention even for low-level synths?

Something like that hacking mini-game from Dead Space 2 where you rotate your joystick around to locate the hotspot would have been perfect (perfect if you have a controller at least) instead of this menu-driven craft system.

And I usually have Media Player Classic open watching anime/movies while I craft to take away from the monotony of mashing enter.

I do it because I like being able to repair all my gear and all my wifes gear and my LS mates and **** everyone for that matter. I try to make the game as painless as possible and user friendly for people I know and even people i dont know. There are plenty of things that are a hassle in game and the last thing I want is people I enjoy playing with quitting the game because they cant get repairs easy. There is a mountain of reasons to quit FFXIV I try to give the few people I come in contact with daily a couple of reasons to keep playing.

I agree with this. I don't want my friends to quit over the fact repairing their stuff is a pain to them. I also like to grind until I get a +1 at least of every item I wear, just because. That actually makes grinding almost painless as it's no longer a question of hitting 100% synth, it's trying to get it with the most quality and durability left, to spam touch up until I get lucky.

Maybe I would make a terrible gambler, if I had any interest in spending my money.

Not trolling, bored yes. I play the game every day, and yes I dunno how I played for 6 months without using macro crafting. Mindless pressing of enter isnt great for anyones sanity.

I generally watch tv while spamming enter...I think my enter key is gonna break soon.
