I came back to the game recently and found that there isn't really many people around unless I'm just looking in the wrong places. My linkshell has disappeared and I decided to come here and ask if there is anyone on any server that actually has an active linkshell that isn't going to disappear in a month that I can join? I don't mind making a new character I never progressed very far anyway. I just would rather make in game friends and have people to play with when I log on part of why I stopped was because playing this game by yourself is really boring after a while.

Don't you know? MMORPGs are solo games now. People want solo content, people wants new items at unparalleled speeds without roadblocks, and people want every class to come with an NPC that follows you around healing.

Welcome to FFXIV, of the few remaining players, even fewer of them are interested in playing with you.

Actually this is where I have to disagree with you. This is kind of what XIV delivered - a more solo experience than FFXI was. Some of it was out of necessity (too hard to party up) and some of it was due to people who have RL contraints. But in the end, what happened?

The playerbase kind of told SE to go **** themselves.

I get being bitter about how XIV turned out - my faith in this game ran out a long time ago. But to say that people actually WANTED the game to be this way..... Well they probably could have taken a snapshot of FFXI just before Abyssea, plugged it into FFXIV, and had an instant success. Just the right mix of group oriented content with a sprinkle of solo play for those who can't devote hard core time.

I definitely disagree that a solo experience with an npc healer is what people actually want.

Listening to people wanting solo play is partly what lead to the failure of the game.. in the past, party SP was SO screwed up. It is better now but the balance between party and solo is challenging to do in MMORPGs. One way or the other, its going to be skewed.

Other than that, the battle system sucks. Relative to 11, its brainless "action"

I don't think solo play really had much impact on it either way. The game could have relied almost exclusively on partying from rank 1 on but it still probably would have been released the same way with the same ridiculous problems it had. The game was released so incomplete that I doubt any direction would have had much impact on it.

Soloing had very little to do with the games shortcomings. People want to solo for XP, farming, and other everyday activities. The player polls showed this. Setting up a party to fight a tough series of battles ending with a dragon thats guarding your AF armor is awesome. Setting up a party to kill 40 crawlers over a 2 hour period of time is frustrating and annoying. Its the kind of thing that is awesome when you already have a group of buddies to go out on your own, and if you're new, or your friends aren't online, its awful.

Balancing group vs party is easy. Its cake, and every game out there today seems more than capable of doing it. But you can't balance them both to be applied to the same mobs, which is what FFXIV did and buggered it all up.
