As for Archer's AA:

Checked with the dev. team regarding questions about archers and their ability to auto-attack. Auto-attack as a system will initiate when the player is fighting an enemy in close range. While archers will be able to auto-attack enemies while in close range it won't be with arrows. New animations will be implemented to make this all happen!

And on DoM:

A few more answers to "auto-attack"-related questions we've seen pop up:
- Disciples of Magic will have an auto-attack when in close combat range
- Attack speed will differ based on the weapon used by each class

This actually sounds like a pretty cool idea. You see archers in movies all the time whacking enemies out of the way with the bow to get back to range or time to grab another weapon.

As for mages, melee range AA is fine for me :)

I can see the benefits if these changes come about, but that is a big if and not something I would count on until the changes are implemented. As it stands currently, the main focus of the communication part of this equation deals with general chatting and not calling out commands to fellow adventurers when you need execution. It's completely possible that it may become more important in the future with raids and endgame content, but that remains to be seen.

The same is true for battle regimens. The stamina bar wasn't scrapped completely. It just merged with the tp bar and builds at an accelerated rate due to auto-attacks. BR is basically the same as skillchain. They could have accomplished the same thing without adding auto-attack. You still have to select abilities and pay attention to what is on your screen. The only difference is that auto-attack allows you to still deal some damage and gain tp if you type 10 wpm or are still learning how to manage your action bars.

Oh. AA for Archers and Mages in close combat.
Seems like spirit **** and phantom **** are a thing of the past then.
Looks like they are going to a 1:1 copy of the FFXI system.
Good idea.
