It's sad that this was ever a problem. How hard is it to make toggling a simple button press?

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

It is a simple button press you just select the spell and before you hit enter to cast it you press the "Z" key. I mean it is pretty easy while using a gamepad, and if you are using the mouse and keyboard it's even easier because your left hand should be resting around the "ASDF" keys.

That is unless your left handed I guess.

That's funny Felix. You want AoE toggle removed and offer the solution of just making macros for all spells with subtargetting? Having to constantly press alt or ctrl or w/e gamepad button you use, does not seem like a better solution to me.

Edit: On the other hand if they made an extra step by enabling to put macros on the regular actionbar, between the normal abilities, then I would be a happy panda.

What is the difference between hitting the AoE toggle, the combination for a macro or whatever key on your action bar to call a macro?

Frankly I'm glad they're getting rid of the AoE toggle because being able to AoE everything doesn't make sense anymore in the new XIV. They introduced it because battles were going to be more action-like, without the auto-attack and everything, so being able to just AoE your 5 spells on the fly was better suited for it.

Now that we're getting a more classic combat style, I'm sure we'll see somewhat slower paced battles which will require some higher degree of strategy instead of just button-timing. Forcing you to play with a wider spell list is part of the plan.

Also, the action bar as we know it might be dropped in the future (which is another thing I hope they'll do).
The more we go on with the changes the more they need to get rid of things born with the old system in mind, or at least drastically change them. We might very well see the classic spells/ability list somewhere along the way.
I honestly don't know what to expect at this point.

The main irritation being, subtargetting which cause an extra confirm. This affects other things besides Spells and they don't have AoE.

First of all I like the fact that I can toggle between AoE cause its a simple thing to manage your spells in this small action bar and handle different situations during fights. People should begin to see FFXIV as a new game and stop compairing it with FFXI in every single way. Sure the party system is ********* the chat is still a mess, that are still things to complain about and need to get fixed I'm not discussing but a discussion about the fact that people can't remember if their AoE is set or is not set so we need to get rid of this toggle is just ********* Comon, you have nothing better to do with your time? Instead of removing the toggle just put an visual hint in form of an icon on character status. Bam, you never miss the hint your AoE is on or off. Jesus.

Oh and to the point someone said that no mage class sould have the ability to cast every spell as AoE: Remember back in time when Scholar was release in FFXI? Every ******* player was excited about the fact that SCH can cast every spell as AoE in combination with the use of an ability. Everyone says, oh wtf finaly we can cast gravity as AoE, sup! Now people complain about the ability to can but they don't want it. Just stfu. This ability of toogle AoE is awesome and it would be a shame when its get removed with no other adjustments.
