Dem youtube comments... lol

I haven't played in like 3 months now, is this an accomplishment or is trying to kill the highest level mob in the game what people have been reduced to for fun?

edit: It's been nearly 3 months now :o

This is not an accomplishment for the game itself, it's just a party having their own reasons (fun, sense of accomplishment, whatever...) to kill a high rank monster (not the highest one). There are other things to do on the game, so killing a high rank monster does not equal your "what people have reduced to for fun".

Kinda is what people are reduced to for fun. There is no content so you go around killing regular mobs that drop no items as a means of fun.

Just posting on here couldn't find any other video's on youtube from anyone else who has killed one so I posted ours ^^

I had never heard of anyone doing this, even though others apparently have. I found the subject interesting, and thought that it was cool thing to try.

Others have lamented the fact that you acquired neither lootz nor shinies in the process of confronting such a strong monster, but I think that it's great for one to be able to make their own goals and find stuff to do, even in the rather empty sandbox that is current FFXIV. Imagination, exploration, and discovery is what games, especially RPGs, used to be about. Congrats on your achievement!^^

I guess it depends on what you're calling "content" to and what does "fun" means for you.
Right now there are combat/crafting/gathering guildleves, sidequests, main scenario quests, various classes to raise (on the same character if you're pleased to), free roaming Notorious Monsters, faction leves related Notorious Monsters, free roaming high rank monsters (like the one showed on the video), etc.
This is content for me AND it keeps me entertained, so I guess I'm having fun.
Where does that "There is no content" come from, on the basis of a video of a party fighting a free roaming monster, is beyond me.

"Do I lament that the community of FFXIV is adversarial and tearing itself apart, or do I lash out at anybody who finds something they kind of like to do in the game?"

Everyone has to make the choice, and it seems most people choose the latter. Are you just so mad at the game that you need to attack anyone who likes it at all? Or, perhaps, so frustrated that you don't enjoy it as to feel the need to bring anyone else down?

Oh, well, maybe we'll all get along better once there's more to do in the game; I suppose there really isn't much else to do but argue, anyway. XD

Awesome. But for me GW2, and/or Star Wars can not come fast enough. It is really nice people being pumped on doing something in an MMO that doesn't give you some phat loot but its so hard to keep optimistic about this game. I'm still praying but meh.

Almalexia, I don't think the Rainbow Basilisk is an NM, just a very high level, and particularly mean/hard-hitting mob. That's not to say killing it isn't an accomplishment, it may as well be an NM for the level difference between a capped player and the RB.

IIRC from when my old LS killed it, it was for ragstones, and i can't remember, but it also dropped a semi-precious gem, like jade or sphene or somethig like that.
